Abstract

Welding is a process of joining materials by melting metal at high temperatures. Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) is one of welding method to join metals. This welding process will affect the mechanical properties of a material. So, it is necessary to conduct a study on changes in mechanical properties that occur. This study aims to determine the mechanical properties of AISI 1045 medium carbon steel using the GTAW welding process with a current variation of 80 A and 100 A. The welding was used the AWS EWTh-1 tungsten electrode and ER70S-G filler wire. The type of connection was used a butt weld joint and a single V groove seam with an angle of 60o. The standard of ASTM E8 was used for the manufacture of tensile test specimens. The results of tensile testing with welding current of 80 A was obtained an average stress of 518.463021 N/mm2 and the strain of 19.55%. For welding with a current of 100 A, the average stress was 548.814727 N/mm2 and the strain of 26.44%. Based on the fracture that occurred in the specimen, the critical area for fracture was the Heat Affecting Zone (HAZ), which the area has undergone a phase change during the cooling process. The weld area of connection part in the welding process has higher strength than the HAZ area.

Abstract

The headlights on Anoa 2 6x6 special vehicles are used for street lighting for anoa tanks at night. The purpose of this study was discussed the steps of production process of the Anoa 2 6x6 headlights in PT. Pindad. The headlight component was made in several manufacturing processes that were carried out. It consists of many parts, which a variety of production machines for the manufacture of each part. The manufacturing of the headlight components using machining processes such as laser cutting, welding, and drilling. The type of material used for the manufacture of the headlights and parts that was Aluminum Alloy 2044 and Steel ST-37. The result components were made the headlight frame, BT protectors, the front, side, and rear components.

Abstract

The metalworking process is one of the most important things in manufacturing of machine components, such as lathe process. Therefore, it is required continuously innovation to improve production quality. There are several ways to do this, for example by choosing the right type of tool, depth of cut, and spindle speed. In turning process for the production of goods is very important to produce a precision product in accordance to desiring of size and roughness. The turning speed of a lathe has a type of spindle rotation rate that is used according to production requirements, which uses a rotational speed that can be changed the rate of rotation of the machine, in order to determine the level of surface roughness in the turning process. One is affected the optimal conditions of the turning speed and feeding rate. In this paper, the variations of different rotational speed levels of low speed, medium speed and high speed according to variations of feeding rate in order to know the difference in roughness results for the screw conveyor shaft operation. The roughness was measured on the surface turning process using a reference of surface roughness stand comparator (ISO2632 / I-1975). The result of test revealed the greater speed of feed rate, the greater value of roughness. Reversely, the smaller speed of feed rate affected the lower roughness value.

Abstract

The development of an on-line process control system in the Industry is a major requirement in the context of the efficiency of machines and improving the quality of production during the Covid-19 period. As well as in the learning system and practicum students are required to be able to study independently, and lecturers must be able to develop themselves in on-line learning methods. The on-line learning process is not just to transfer learning modules to students, but must be able to guide students in an unlimited time, whenever students need an explanation of the material provided. TeamViewer is an application that provides a solution that is used to remotely control another PC or laptop. By knowing the ID and password are provided by TeamViewer on the PC that want to remote. Then, it just entered the TeamViewer application installed on the PC. The use of this team viewer was tested against the control of the beverage bottle filling process. The result is that by using Android the process of controlling beverage bottle filling. It turns out that, it can be operated to fill beverage bottles for different size, namely by setting the data delay on the program 3.2 seconds for the 120 ml bottle size, 4.0 seconds for the 200 ml bottle size, and 5.0 seconds for the bottle size of 300 ml.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the vibration analysis for equipment test of chassis. The frame model of the gear transmission vibration test is developed. The prototype of the vibration and noise testing tool was constructed for the gear transmission system. The vibration equipment test consists of three gears that function as a gear transmission. The chassis is considered to be one of the vital elements of equipment. The rotation of gears and shafts can occur the vibration. The simulation with the 3D model using ANSYS was resulted in structure analysis. The simulation was resulted in total deformation, equivalent strain, and equivalent stress where the structure of the equipment was definitely safe and had good stability.

Abstract

Minolta photocopiers produce very good and reliable photocopier quality during their lifetime with the condition that the toner must be replaced with the original. If it is replaced by refilling, then refilling can only be done an average of three times. Meanwhile, replacement by refilling is needed by small and medium business units (SMEs) in an effort to save costs. Recharging that exceeds the average three times will cause the Minolta photocopier to have an error with code C032. Therefore, this paper was conducted to increase the frequency of the toner refill process as a solution for the Minolta Bizhub 421 machine to minimize losses due to interference with code C032. So, the machine can be refilled repeatedly without interruption, as well as adding error information via SMS using an Arduino microcontroller. Method was used experimental of placement sensor modification of photo interrupter and ATDC (After Top Dead Center) sensor. The results showed that after modifying the sensor placement, the number of refills could be increased to an average usage of toner exceeding 12 refills before the error code C032 occurred. This was because of the opto sensor was covered by toner powder and with an indicator that controlled the toner rotation it had reached set point. Then, with SIM 800L, which sends SMS and miss call notifications to users with a success rate of 98% and 2% error. Therefore, it helps users of the Minolta Bizhub 421 photocopier can more easily supervise the toner tube.

Abstract

The focus of the research is the use of YouTube as a learning media in English classes for mechanical engineering students. The purpose of using YouTube videos is to improve students' speaking skills and create a comfortable classroom environment, and increase students' enthusiasm for learning in class. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Students speak with more confidence and are more expressive as a result of the highly effective use of YouTube media in the classroom. In addition, students do not need to worry about the phrases they use when speaking English because they have already witnessed how foreigners speak fluently and correctly.

Abstract

Plyllostachys bamboosoides known in Asia, also called bamboo fence, is one of the choices for the construction and manufacture of furniture. Its properties also make it useful in a number of arts and crafts. The influence of ductility and toughness factors is at the microcellular level; which includes the pattern of arrangement, morphology, and mechanical properties of bamboo cells. The perfect combination of fibers and compressible parenchyma cells is the key to the excellent flexible deformation of bamboo, originally illustrated the elongation of parenchyma cells under bending through low resolution electron micrographs. The angle of the microfibrils in the cell wall plays an important role in the mechanical properties of the wood and the occurrence of interface delamination followed by matrix failure and fiber breakdown under natural growth. Tensile strength and strain due to the influence of variations in thickness and volume of composite composition with variations in manufacturing methods that can affect its mechanical properties so that it is expected to determine a good composition. The addition of bamboo fiber as a filler of Polyester resin has a significant effect on the tensile strength. Tensile testing with an angle of 450 with a thickness 1 mm resulted in the highest ultimate stress 0.027 M.Pa with 25%:75% polyester resin of bamboo fiber. The tensile strength is increased by increasing the volume of the bamboo fiber and reducing the thickness of the bamboo fiber increases the tensile strength of the composite.

Abstract

In the conventional machining process, production costs are essential to know to determine the cost of making a product in any industrial manufacturing such as the SMK N 2 PEKANBARU machining workshop. Machining production costs are calculated based on machining time per product and machining operation costs. In calculating conventional machining costs, the VBA Excel macro is an application that can be used to calculate production costs. The Ø65mm × z24 umbrella gear product which is the research case study is a product that is machined by two conventional machining processes, namely lathe machining and milling machining. From the results of the research, the cost of conventional lathe machining, namely making gear wheels, is IDR 47,841/product, and the conventional milling process, namely making Z24 gears, is IDR 40,002/product, while the machining cost for lathe mastercam simulation is IDR 33,187/product and the machining cost for milling mastercam simulation is IDR 20,340/product. Machining costs are the product of operating costs per minute (cm) and machining time (tm). So, from the results of calculating machining and production costs, it is known that the product manufacturing costs or production costs for Ø65mm × Z24 umbrella gears are in the range of IDR 111,827 - IDR 146,143/product.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis sifat mekanik baja AISI 4340 setelah proses pack carburizing  menggunakan karbon dari tandan kelapa pada temperatur kristalisasi 725°C. Metode carburizing yang digunakan dengan menggunakan pack yang terbuat dari stainless steel yang ditutup rapat. Pada pack terdapat karbon tandan kelapa, spesimen uji dan katalis abu kerang sebanyak 10% sebagai katalis. Tujuan utama adalah mengetahui perubahan kekerasan permukaan, kekuatan impact, kekuatan tarik dan struktur mikro setelah karburisasi, serta pengaruh serbuk tandan kelapa sebagai media karbon. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebelum carburizing, baja AISI 4340 memiliki kekerasan permukaan 78.9 HRC, kekuatan impact 129.56 Joule, kekuatan tarik 948.8 Mpa dan struktur mikro terdiri dari perlite dan ferrite. Setelah karburizing dengan media karbon tandan kelapa dan katalis abu cangkang kerang 10%, kekerasan permukaan meningkat menjadi 94.5 HRC, kekuatan impact menjadi 175.2 Joule, kekuatan tarik menjadi 1,012.9 Mpa, patahan tetap berbentuk cup and cone menunjukkan sifat mekanik ulet dan struktur mikro terbentuk perlite, ferrite serta banit. Kesimpulannya, penggunaan serbuk karbon tandan kelapa dalam proses pack carburizing  meningkatkan sifat mekanik baja AISI 4340.
