<![CDATA[Penelitian ini ditulis untuk melihat pengaruh strategi picture word inductive model (PWIM) dan self-efficacy siswa terhadap keterampilan mereka dalam menulis teks deskriptif. Penelitian ini merupakan quasi-experimental dengan rancangan factorial design. Data penelitian ini diambil dari hasil tes keterampilan menulis siswa dan angket self-efficacy. Kemudian, data tersebut dianalisis dengan menggunakan t-test dan Anova dua Arah melalui aplikasi Minitab 14. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan strategi PWIM memberikan efek yang signifikan terhadap keterampilan menulis siswa jika dibandingkan dengan strategi listing yang biasa digunakan oleh guru dalam pengajaran menulis. Hasil tersebut memperlihatkan t-hitung sebesar 1,900 yang lebih besar daripada t-tabel yang bernilai 1,684. Kemudian, siswa yang memiliki self-efficacy tinggi yang diajarkan dengan strategi PWIM mempunyai kemampuan yang lebih baik dalam menulis teks deskriptif dibandingkan dengan siswa yang diajarkan dengan strategi listing, dimana t-hitung sebesar 3,160 yang lebih besar daripada t-tabel yang bernilai 1,812. Akan tetapi, siswa yang memiliki self-efficacy rendah yang diajarkan dengan strategi PWIM tidak mempunyai kemampuan yang lebih baik dalam menulis teks deskriptif dibandingkan dengan siswa yang diajarkan dengan strategi listing yang mana t-hitung sebesar 1,730 yang lebih kecil daripada t-tabel yang bernilai 1,812. Selanjutnya, dari hasil penelitian juga ditemukan bahwa tidak ada interaksi antara strategi mengajar dengan self-efficacy terhadap keterampilan menulis siswa dimana F-hitung sebesar 0,08 yang lebih tinggi daripada F-tabel yang bernilai 2,58.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aimed to know the students’ attitude toward the use of Google Classroom as an application used in collecting their assignment on Translation subject. The importance of this study was based on the development of IT and the use of mobile application as supporting media in teaching and learning process. In addition, Google Classroom has been used as supporting tool in collecting students’ assignments on several subjects taught at Department FKIP UMMY Solok. One of the subjects is Translation subject that usually contains several assignments that should be submitted by the students directly.This research was conducted by using descriptive method. The subject of this research were third year students of English Department FKIP UMMY Solok in 2017/2018 academic year consisted of 9 students. The instrument of this research was a questionnaire where the students were asked to give respond to each statement in 60 minutes. The questionnaire was based on indicators of students’ attitude that categorized into three aspects: cognitive, affective, and behavior.The result of this study found that students’ attitude toward the use of Google Classroom in collecting their assignment on Translation subject was in the “ good” level. In other word, the students’ attitude toward the use of Google Classroom on Translation subject at third year of English Department students of FKIP UMMY in 2017/2018 academic year Solok was positive. So, it can be concluded that Google Classroom can be used as an effective tool in collecting students’ assignments, especially in Translation subject.Keywords: students’ attitude, Google Classroom, translation subject]]>

<![CDATA[The curriculum changes in Indonesia bring another problem for English subject in Elementary school. The subject can not be found in Kurikulum 2013 (K-13), while it was one of subjects stated in previous curriculum known as KTSP. It becomes current issue in education area. Some people agree that English subject should not be included as subject for Elementary School students, because it is more important for the students to learn Bahasa Indonesia as first and national language.. In other hand, some people state that it is important because English is international language that should be learnt by everyone in the world. Then, Elementary School is the right level to start introducing English as foreign language because of the students’ golden age. They will get easier to learn this subject in the next school levels. In fact, English as foreign language is very important to be learnt since early age especially for the students in Elementary School. They have to learn English in line with Bahasa Indonesia that being learnt as their first language. Elementary School students as young learners need to get English as one of subject in their school, because they have high interest in learning new things such as English that starting commonly used in daily life. <![CDATA[The readiness of grade IX students of SMP in facing the national exam is still not optimal. It can be seen from the obstacles encountered by the students related to the amount of material being studied and the limited time available at school. Furthermore, the students are also still unfamiliar with the UN questions tested due to the lack of practice in discussing UN questions. This problem can be overcomed by providing training to students on the use of reading strategies to be applied in answering English UN questions. The subjects of this service program are grade IX students of SMP Negeri 4 Solok City who will take the national exam. The use of reading strategies is an approach to understand English texts that can be used in solving English UN questions. The method of implementing this service program is carried out through several stages, namely (1) giving try out to assess students' ability to answer UN questions, (2) giving guidance and training in using reading strategies in answering UN questions, and (3) giving final try out as evaluation of the implementation of community service activities. The results of this community service activity showed that students have broad insights on strategies to solve English National Examination questions. Students also become more enthusiastic and active in answering English UN questions. Besides that, students also get information that is very useful in preparing themselves as early as possible to face the national exam. Given the large benefits of community service activities, it is necessary to provide intensive and structured training for grade IX students of SMP on tips and tricks for answering English UN questions easily.]]>

<![CDATA[The readiness of elementary school teachers to use online learning media during the COVID-19 pandemic remains very low. Many teachers are unable to optimize various features of online teaching media, such as the use of WhatsApp. This was also experienced by teachers at SD Negeri 10 Pianggu, IX Koto Sungai Lasi sub-district. Not all teachers can make the best use of WhatsApp as an online learning tool. Some teachers are still unaware of the features accessible on WhatsApp that might be utilized as a learning assistance tool. Therefore it is necessary to provide training for teachers at SD Negeri 10 Pianggu, IX Koto Sungai Lasi sub-district in presenting learning materials through the use of WhatsApp. The implementation of service activities is carried out by providing training through lectures, discussions, and practices. Teachers were given information and knowledge about WhatsApp as a means of online learning medium during the Covid-19 pandemic. Based on the training activities that were conducted, the teachers demonstrated an eager attitude and a desire to learn more about various features on Whatsapp. Teachers receive training materials fast and can utilize the WhatsApp group as an effective online teaching tool, so the training generates favorable feedback.]]>

<![CDATA[This study was aims to know the attitude of students towards the use of printed dictionaries in the Translation class in the third year of English Department at 2017/2018 academic year. This research is motivated by problems faced by students in translation class. Students are often bored in the learning process, material of teaching does not improve the students’ critical thinking, the students have lack of background knowledge, and the students error in using dictionary. The problem can be solved by the lecturer by using printed dictionary as a media to translate text in the Translation class.The research method used in this study was descriptive quantitative. The subject of this study was all third year students of English Department at UMMY Solok at 2017/2018 academic year. The number of subjects in this study were 6 students. In collecting the data, researcher used questionnaire, in this questionnaire the students cloud tick (√) in the response column provided. In this case the researcher used 26 number of statements that correspond to 3 indicators and 13 sub-indicators. In the attitude indicator, the researcher divided into cognitive, affective and behavioral aspects. The results showed that the students’ attitude toward the use of printed dictionary in translating text based on three indicators that got good percentage (60,1%). Based on the result of the research, it could be guidance for English lecturer to using printed dictionary to teach the students in teaching Translation. It is hoped to make the lecturer know the advantages of printed dictionary as a tool to do translating the text. It is expected that the finding of this research can offer lecturer more information to teach Translation. For the students, they are must often to use printed dictionary to translate the text in Translation class.]]>

<![CDATA[This research was conducted at the third year students of English Department Universitas Mahaputra Muhammad Yamin Kota Solok 2017/2018 academic year. This research was aimed to know the students’ perception on the use of Google Classroom in submitting their assignments in Translation Subject. The background of the research based on the problems that raised by the students who had problems in submitting their Translation Subject assignments. The lecturer copes the problems by using Google Classroom as a media for submitting students’ assignments. This research was conducted by using descriptive method. The subject of the research was the third year students of English Department of Universitas Mahaputra Muhammad Yamin 2017/2018 academic year. In collecting the data, researcher used questionnaire.The findings of this research showed that the students’ perception on the use of Google Classroom in submitting their assignments in Translation Subject was in “good” level. It means that, the students’ perception on the use of Google Classroom in submitting their Translation Subject assignments of universitas mahaputra Muhammad yamin was good. It can be seen by the students’ positive response in responding the questionnaire statements about Google Classroom in submitting their assignments in Translation Subject. This research gives suggestion to the lecturer to use Google Classroom as a media in submitting assignments. For the students, it expected to be more interested and active in using Google Classroom.]]>

<![CDATA[Vocabulary is one of the language aspects that should be mastered by the students in language learning. It has a main role for the students in understanding and applying the four basic skills in language learning. Most of the teachers do not pay attention to the media that they use in gaining students’ vocabulary mastery. This study aimed to find out whether the use of Jeopardy Game affected the students’ vocabulary mastery or not. This study conducted a quasi-experimental design. The population of this study was comprised of 186 students of the second grade of SMAN 1 Bukit Sundi that divided into 6 classes. The instrument of this study was a vocabulary test. The experiment class was taught by using Jeopardy Game, while the control class by using Guessing Game. In conclusion, there were significant differences between students who were taught by using Jeopardy Game and Guessing Game on Second Grade of SMAN 1 Bukit Sundi in 2020/2021 Academic Year]]>

<![CDATA[This research is based on the development of technology that has brought wide impact on teaching and learning process, especially in university level. It can be seen from the use of mobile devices as learning supporting tools for the students. Due to the development, mobile phones and their applications are considered bring good benefits on language learning. One of the forms is mobile based dictionary where there are many kinds of application that can help the students in teaching and learning process. This research aimed to know about types of mobile based dictionary used interestedly by the students at English Department. It also aimed to find out the level of students’ interest in using mobile based dictionary in English. In addition, it meant to know the dominant factors that influence student's interest in using mobile based dictionary in English learning at English Department of FKIP UMMY Solok at 2018/2019 academic year. The design of this research was descriptive qualitative research. It was conducted on the students in English department of FKIP UMMY Solok who are registered on 2018/2019 academic year. Purposive sampling was used as sampling technique, where the samples were chosen because they are registered as active students on that semester. There were 21 students got a questionnaire in order to know their interest in using mobile based dictionary. The result of this research showed that there are several types of mobile based dictionary commonly used by the students. Then, it was found that the percentage of students’ interest was 75%. It means that the students’ interest in mobile based dictionary in English Department of FKIP UMMY Solok in 2018/2019 academic year can be classified into good level. <![CDATA[The purpose of this study is to find out the extent of the relationship of motivation to the learning outcomes of students of biaputra muhammad yamin university in the development subject of participants students in the academic year 018/2019. This type of research is descriptive. The population and sample of this study were 10 students in biology education semester II of Academic Year 018/2019. Data were collected using a motivational questionnaire consisting of 0 items. The data obtained is processed using simple linear correlation techniques. From the test r obtained by the price of the correlation coefficient r count = 0.3835 and r table = 0.320 then r count> r table means there is a positive and significant relationship of 0.3835. From the t test, it was obtained tcount = .49 and ttable = .02, it means tcount> ttable in the sense that there was a significant relationship between motivation and learning outcomes of biology education students at the university of mahaputra muhammad yamin in the subject of student development in the academic year 018/2019 on a 95% confidence level. The price of the determinant coefficient = 14.71% then the relationship of motivation with learning outcomes is very low. This means that student learning outcomes 14.71% is determined by motivation, the remaining 85.29% is determined by other factors.]]>
