Abstract

Dental and oral health issues frequently affect children between the ages of 6 and 14. Dental caries is the primary issue affecting the oral cavity. Several factors might impact an individual's dental and oral hygiene, such as socio-economic circumstances, age, gender, knowledge, surroundings, attitudes, and behaviors about dental and oral health. Therefore, it is necessary to implement health education initiatives specifically targeting dental and oral hygiene in youngsters. The study’s objective is to assess the impact of health education on the students' knowledge level of oral hygiene at Astanaanyar 249 Elementary School, Bandung City. The research methodology employs a quantitative experimental approach utilizing the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The population consists of 197 students in first and second grade. A total of 67 respondents were selected using the Proportional Random Sampling approach. The data gathering site was located at Astanaanyar 249 Elementary School in Bandung City. The research instrument employed a questionnaire supplemented with a PowerPoint presentation encompassing dental and oral hygiene data. The resulting validity test results were 0.96, indicating a high level of validity. Univariate data analysis examines frequency distribution, while bivariate analysis employs the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The research findings indicated that the initial assessment revealed that a significant majority of respondents (68.7%) possessed a low level of knowledge. However, the follow-up assessment demonstrated that nearly all respondents (89.6%) had achieved a high level of knowledge. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test findings yielded a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a statistically significant difference in knowledge before and after implementing dental and oral hygiene instruction. Recommendations for SDN 249 Astanaanyar, Bandung City, include implementing regular dental and oral hygiene health education programs to prevent and minimize the occurrence of dental caries proactively. Additionally, it is advised to establish partnerships with health organizations to facilitate the education program, as well as assessment of the oral and dental health of the students

Abstract

The prevalence of sexually transmitted infections, such as AIDS, suffered by adolescents aged 15-19 years old, males, was as high as 46 adolescents in Bandung City in 2022. There are several ways to reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections, including abstaining from sexual activity, using condoms, reducing the frequency of intercourse, practicing monogamy, and choosing partners who are not much different in age. Therefore, there is a need to do health education about sexually transmitted infections. The purpose of the study was to investigate the impact of providing health education about sexually transmitted infections on the knowledge of adolescents at a private high school in Bandung. The study used a quantitative approach. The type of research is a pre-experimental design with a One-Group Pre-Test Post-Test design. The respondents’ study were 142 adolescents in grades XI and XII of a private high school in Bandung, selected using a proportional stratified random sampling technique. The research instrument utilized PowerPoint and a questionnaire that had been tested for validity, yielding a validity coefficient of 0.361, which can be considered valid. The data analysis used was the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results of the study showed that at the pre-test, more than half of the respondents had a good level of knowledge (50.7%), and at the post-test, almost all respondents had a good level of knowledge (94.4%). The results of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test obtained a significance value of p-value <0.001 (p-value<0.05), which showed that there was an effect of education on sexually transmitted infection health in adolescents at SMA Nasional Bandung. As a suggestion, the private high schools in Bandung are expected to provide additional learning about sexually transmitted infections in adolescents.

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) remains one of the most common diseases affecting toddlers and is a leading cause of morbidity as well as mortality among children in Indonesia. Data from the Bandung District Health Office in 2023 recorded a total of 24,196 ARI cases. One of the factors influencing the prevention of this disease is maternal knowledge. This study aims to determine the relationship between mothers’ levels of knowledge and preventive behaviors against ARI in toddlers at the Cikaro Health Center in Bandung District. This research employed a quantitative, cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 92 mothers with toddlers diagnosed with ARI, selected using purposive sampling from a population of 120 mothers. The instrument used was a questionnaire. Univariate analysis showed that the majority of respondents had good knowledge (48 respondents, 52.2%) and good preventive behavior (59 respondents, 64.1%). The Chi-square test results indicated a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and preventive behaviors against ARI in toddlers (p = 0.002). With the existence of this relationship, health workers are expected to provide regular education to mothers of toddlers in order to maintain and improve preventive behaviors against ARI, as well as to develop more intensive health promotion programs to reduce the incidence of ARI in toddlers.
