Abstract

Background: Epidemiological and demographic transitions lead to the emergence of non-communicable diseases (NCD) among the elderly. This study aimed to examine the risk factors of hypertension and diabetes mellitus (DM) among the elderly by using secondary data (Basic Health Research 2018). Methods: Secondary data from Basic Health Research (N = 88,911) were used. Cut-off values for measurement were WHO standard of 126 mg/dl for fasting and 200 mg/dl for non-fasting for DM and 140 mmHg for systole and 90 mmHg for diastole for hypertension. Univariate, bivariate, and multivariate (binary logistic regression) analyses were conducted using STATA version 15. Results: The prevalence of hypertension and DM among the elderly was about 22.30% and 5.39%, respectively. Age, sex, educational level, marital status, place of residence, and employment status were substantially associated with hypertension and were risk factors for DM. Conclusions: There is significant correlation between hypertension and DM are risk factors of one another and therefore show a relationship. Various sectors must develop appropriate programs, including community and family support, to address this situation.

Abstract

Background: Smokeless tobacco (SLT) use is a new trend since the banning of smoking in many public places, including among adolescents. Many people believe that SLT is a harmful reduction method compared to cigarettes. However, there are many risks of using the SLT, such as Head and neck cancer (HNC), cancer of the mouth, and coronary heart disease. Objective: This study aimed to examine the prevalence and the factors associated with SLT use among adolescents in Indonesia. Methods: This study used the cross-sectional data from the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) Indonesia 2019. The national school was selected by proportional random sampling. Around 8,828 students were eligible for this study. Results: This study found the prevalence of SLT use was 3.25%. The bivariate test found each independent variable was significantly associated with the SLT use. However, the adjusted test found that age, smoking parent, smoking teacher, knowledge, and attitude were significantly associated with SLT use. Conclusion: The variables mostly related to SLT use come from the family and school environment. The appropriate intervention needs to be arranged to reduce the prevalence of smokers, including SLT use.

The intervention was carried out by establishing and implementing an online parenting classes program. Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire in the form of a Google form that was given before and after the intervention. Data analysis used the SPPS paired t-test. The result obtained is a p-value of 0.000 which means <0.05. From this it shows that there is an influence of implementing online parenting classes on the entrepreneurial interest of midwifery students.

Purpose: Pregnancy online classes can potentially increase knowledge and reduce anxiety ahead of labor during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Methods: Quasi-experimental and nonequivalent control group, pretest and posttest design approach Each group of 30 people (purposive sampling technique). Pre-test and PROCLASS provide material every week through videos uploaded to the WhatsApp group. The instrument uses a questionnaire (Google Form). Independent t-test and Mann-Whitney test to compare the PROCLASS and control groups. Dependent t-test and Wilcoxon test to compare the pre-and post-test in the PROCLASS group.  Results: There were differences in the pre-post test on the variables of knowledge and anxiety in the PROCLASS group, respectively (p-value 0.000). There was a difference in knowledge between the PROCLASS and control groups (p-value 0.002), with an average knowledge of 88.83 in the PROCLASS group and 85.73 in the control group. There were also differences in anxiety levels between the PROCLASS and control groups (p-value 0.000), with an average anxiety level of 28.17 in the PROCLASS group and 45.70 in the control group.  Conclusion: PROCLASS has proven effective in increasing knowledge and reducing the anxiety level of pregnant women before giving birth during the COVID-19 pandemic so that health workers can carry out the process (Puskesmas).

Abstract

Tetanus toxoid injection is important as one mandatory vaccine for pregnant women to prevent maternal and neonatal tetanus. This study purposed to examine the barriers of not receiving tetanus toxoid vaccine among women of reproductive age in Nepal. This study used the secondary data using “Multiple Indicators Clusters Survey” round 6 in 2019. Total sample of this study are 2,494 women of reproductive aged 15 to 49 years. The data analysis was done for univariate, bivariate, and multivariate using binary logistic regression. The results in this study revealed that increasing child ever born (CEB) as the main predictor for not receiving TT vaccine, following by higher educational level and wealth index. In conclusion, the TT vaccine is a critical intervention to prevent maternal and neonatal tetanus. Understanding the determinants of TT vaccination coverage, ensuring accessibility to the vaccine, and addressing knowledge gaps among pregnant women are essential for improving TT vaccination rates during pregnancy.
