Abstract

Stigma is a situation in which giving someone else a slave that unwittingly demean someone who has been socially discredited. During this time when students see or meet people with mental disorders, they are still afraid and they call the mental disorders people as a crazy man. Stigma can cause people with mental disorders to feel ashamed, blame themselves, despair, and reluctant to seek or receive help. This type of research is analytic descriptive using a cross sectional study design. The sample of this research is the D-III Nursing Banda Aceh students and the Nursing Students at Academy Iskandar Muda Banda Aceh, Data collection was conducted on 06-12 February 2020. Then the data were analyzed by univariate analysis, bivariate analysis with chi square test, and multivariate analysis with using logistic regression test. The results showed that the stigma of Nursing D-III students was high for people with mental disorders (59.11%) and there was a relationship between triggering factors and student stigma. Trigger factors based on stereotypes (p = 0.001), blame (p = 0.001), prejudice (p = 0.001), authoritarianism (p = 0.001), lack of awareness (p = 0.001) and social judgment (p = 0.007). The factors that showed the most significant relationship were stereotypes (p = 0.001 OR 4.44), prejudice (p = 0.001 OR 37.20) and authoritarianism (p = 0.001 OR 6.20). It can be concluded that Nursing D-III students still have a high stigma towards people with mental disorders and they are expected to increase their understanding of mental disorders. Also the education management needs to improve scientific activities or training that are more focused on mental disorders. if the stigma can not be removed, especially on students or health workers in general, it will be very difficult to reduce the number of people with mental disorders (recovered).

Abstract

Limited human resources turn triage into an unavoidable solution in disaster management. Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment (START) is a triage method that is widely accepted and easy to use to handle disasters with a time of 30 seconds or less based on three primary examinations such as respiration, checking the radial pulse, mental status. This study aims to identify differences in the preparedness of nurses at the Puskesmas at Kaki Gunung Burni Telong Kabupaten Bener Meriah Regency before and after the health education method intervention (START). The data sources for this study were the nurses of the puskesmas at Kaki Gunung Burni Telong Kabupaten Bener Meriah totaling 20 people. The research design used a quasi-experiment "Quasy experiment”. Data was collected using a questionnaire, then for nurses were given the Health Education intervention (START). The results showed that the average knowledge and attitudes of puskesmas nurses before and after health education intervention (START) had increased in dealing with disasters, but there were significant differences in nurses' knowledge in handling disasters with unequal distribution.

Abstract

Background: Epidemiological and demographic transitions lead to the emergence of non-communicable diseases (NCD) among the elderly. This study aimed to examine the risk factors of hypertension and diabetes mellitus (DM) among the elderly by using secondary data (Basic Health Research 2018). Methods: Secondary data from Basic Health Research (N = 88,911) were used. Cut-off values for measurement were WHO standard of 126 mg/dl for fasting and 200 mg/dl for non-fasting for DM and 140 mmHg for systole and 90 mmHg for diastole for hypertension. Univariate, bivariate, and multivariate (binary logistic regression) analyses were conducted using STATA version 15. Results: The prevalence of hypertension and DM among the elderly was about 22.30% and 5.39%, respectively. Age, sex, educational level, marital status, place of residence, and employment status were substantially associated with hypertension and were risk factors for DM. Conclusions: There is significant correlation between hypertension and DM are risk factors of one another and therefore show a relationship. Various sectors must develop appropriate programs, including community and family support, to address this situation.

Abstract

Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic has had catastrophic health and economic impacts worldwide. As of 20 September 2020, Indonesia ranked the third highest of fatalities due to COVID-19 infection in Asia and the second highest of confirmed cases in Southeast Asia.  Aceh, a province in the westernmost of the country, has also been impacted by the virus infections. This study aims to investigate the current Central and Aceh provincial government-led responses to COVID-19 pandemic from January to May 2020. It utilises existing regulations, official reports and relevant websites in order to assess and analyse the responses. The findings identify delayed early responses taken by Central and Aceh governments to stop and prevent the virus transmission; the absence of lockdown implementation (border restrictions at entry points such as borderland areas, seaports and airports); premature introduction of the new normal era; the absence of checkpoints and village alert teams throughout 23 districts; and inadequate enforcement of the established regulations to halt the spread of the virus in the province.Various recommendations are provided to enhance the current responses to COVID-19 in the province in order to reduce the pandemic risk to the community going forward, and strengthen the pandemic preparedness and response system.

Abstract

The high number of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases from year to year and the endemic status of DHF in Kutaraja District, Banda Aceh City encourages us to always make efforts to reduce the morbidity rate of DHF. The involvement of elementary school teachers is very important to participate in DHF control which will teach their students. This study was conducted to assess the effect of before and after administration of the DHF learning module on the average knowledge score of 90 grade IV and V elementary school students in the Kutaraja District, Banda Aceh City. The quasi-experimental method and Focus Group Discussions involving schools and Puskesmas when designing DHF learning modules were conducted. One-group pretest-posttest design, consisting of 25 questions that were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. The study results obtained an average pre-test score of 76.6% and a post-test average value of 90.6%. The DHF learning module was able to increase elementary school students' knowledge. The provision of DHF material by elementary school teachers through modules can be done to students to increase students' knowledge so that they can participate in reducing the incidence of dengue hemorrhagic fever.
