Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine whether or not the listening materials included in the English textbooks used by students in the tenth grade at SMAN 04 Bengkulu City match the requirements outlined in the curriculum that was implemented in 2013. This research is extremely important to the academic world since it will make it much easier for both students and teachers to select a good textbook. A content analysis was utilized in the current investigation. During the data collection process, the researchers utilized two different analysis matrices. The first matrix of analysis consisted of making connections between the listening materials in the textbook and the academic program for 2013. The second analysis matrix presents the percentage score that the English textbook was given in accordance with the standards of the 2013 curriculum. The first matrix illustrates, in accordance with the conclusions of the analysis of the data, that the listening materials contained within the English textbook is compatible with the curricular plan for 2013. In the second matrix, English textbooks are categorized as "good," much like in the first matrix. As a direct result of this, the textbooks published by Private Publications and Erlangga have an average percentage of 92%  (Good). In conclusion, the textbooks published by Private Publications/English Erlangga are regarded as "excellent" resources for use in education, both by students and by teachers.

Abstract

This study investigated the compensation strategies which were used by competent and poor speakers to avoid communication gap in speaking activities. This study used descriptive quantitative desaign. The use of descriptive method because of this study was not searching about compararison or making prediction, but only finding out about mostly strategies used either competent or poor speakers in developing their speaking activities to avoid communication gap. Descriptive research is also chosen because it explores and catches social situation particularly in the class wholisticly, widely and deeply. Data collection used an observation sheet and a questionnaire. Population of this study was 83 students categorized as competent and poor speakers of semester 4 at English Study Program in one of the universities in Kendari. The findings of this study showed that the strategy which dominant used by either competent speakers or poor speakers as their group tendencies that was selecting the topic with the same overall average score of 4.0; competent speakers mostly used selecting the topic with the overall average of 4.0, adjusting or approximating the message with the overall average of 3.6 and using mime or gesture with the overall average of 3.5; poor speakers also mostly used selecting the topic with the overall average of 4.0 and coining word of 3.5. Competent speakers much more used compensation strategies than poor speakers. Thus, its major implication for pedagogy is that compensation strategies are extremely useful as guidance to avoid communication gap in speaking activities

Abstract

This research aims to determine whether there is an effect of gamification in learning on students reading comprehension on eighth grade students at SMP PANCASILA Bengkulu. This research uses a Quasi-Experimental method with the type of research being quantitative. The researcher decided to do an experiment in grade 8 with a total of 32 students. In the process of collecting data, researchers conducted a pre-test and post-test for 4 meetings. From the results of this study, the students' average pre-test score was 7.55 and the post-test average was 8.96, which means that the post-test score was higher than the pre-test score. With a standard deviation of 0.336 pre-test and 0.40 pos- test. So, it can be concluded that the application of the gamification in learning method has a significant influence on the eighth-grade students of SMP PANCASILA Bengkulu.

Abstract

The objective of this study was intended to find out the significant effect of blended learning with enriched virtual model on EFL students’ achievement. This study used a time-series design method. The sample in this research was 29 students in class IX C taken by performed a test to the population to determine their achievement in learning English. The researcher has given achievement tests to students and identified class who need treatment used blended learning with enriched virtual model to increase English learning achievement. The researcher was given the treatment used enriched virtual model in class. Pre-test were given before giving treatment. The result showed as follows: First, the pre-test score showed the average score is 61.72. After being given treatment, a post-test is given. The post-test result show the average value is 77.41 in this case the increase is 15.69. Second, the score of the independent t-test shows the significant value (2-tailed) is 0,000 < 0,05. In other words, H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. It can be concluded that blended learning with enriched virtual model has a significant effect on the third grade of MTsN 2 Mukomuko in the academic year 2021/2022.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate the effect of using miming game combined with jumble words game on students’ vocabulary at the fourth grade of SD IT Al Qiswah Bengkulu city in the academic year 2021/2022. This research was conducted by used time series design, in which only used one class as a experiment class. This research conducted in three series, there are three meeting for pre-test, three meeting for treatment and 3 meeting for post-test. Vocabulary test was used to collect data. One sample t-test formula was used to testing hypothesis with requirement data is distribute normal. In this research used kolmogrov smirnov to test normality th data . The result of this research, the means score of post-test the experimental group class 88,18 was higher than the mean score of pre-test of the experimental group class 69,21. In other words Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. It can be concluded that teaching by using miming game combined with jumble words game has significant effect on students’ vocabulary mastery at fourth grade of SD IT Al-Qiswah Kota Bengkulu in the academic year 2021/2022. This research has several significances for theoritical and partical contribution.

Abstract

This research focused on listening material in English Textbooks published by Private Publications/Erlangga based on the 2013 Curriculum syllabus and this study aims to determine whether the listening material in English Textbooks for Tenth Grade Students of SMAN 04 Bengkulu City meets the aspects of the curriculum syllabus. 2013. This research is very important for the academic world to make it easier for a student and teacher to choose a good textbook. The method used in this research is Content Analysis. Researchers used two analysis matrices in collecting data. The first analysis matrix will show the listening material in the textbook with the 2013 curriculum syllabus. The second analysis matrix will show the percentage score of the English textbook based on the criteria from the 2013 curriculum. As for the results of the data analysis, the first matrix shows that the listening material in the English textbook is appropriate with the 2013 curriculum syllabus and the second matrix also shows that English textbooks are in the "good" category where textbooks published by Private Publications/Erlangga have an average percentage of 92% (Good). In conclusion, English textbooks published by Private Publications/Erlangga are in the “good” category for students in carrying out the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is an influence of the Mimicry-Memorization (MIM-MEM) Method on EFL Young Learners’ Vocabulary Mastery at SDIT AL-AHSAN Seluma. This research uses Quasi-Experiment method with Time Series design. The researcher decided to conduct an experiment in class 5 with a total of 27 students. In the process of collecting data, the researcher conducted a pretest and posttest three times. From the results of this study, the students’ average pretest score was 77.33 and the posttest average was 90.81, which means that the posttest score was higher than the pretest score. So it can be concluded that the application of the Mimicry-Memorization (MIM-MEM) method has a significant effect on EFL Young Learners’ Vocabulary Mastery

Abstract

This research aims to determine whether there is a positive correlation between students' reading habit and critical thinking skills. The method used in this research is a quantitative approach with the correlation method. The sample consisted of 30 eleventh grade IPA students at SMAN 12 Rejang Lebong. The instruments used in this research, namely a questionnaire used to measure the level of reading habit and a writing test to measure the level of students' critical thinking skills. There are several results from this research, including the following; the reading habit of the eleventh grade IPA students of SMAN 12 Rejang Lebong is quite good with an average of 74.37. Some students have very good reading habits, but there are still some students who have poor reading habits. Second, students' critical thinking skills in writing analytical exposition texts in eleventh grade IPA students at SMAN 12 Rejang Lebong are low because they have an average score of 62.57, but some students have good critical thinking skills. And the last, the correlation between students reading habit and critical thinking skill. There is a positive significant correlation between the both variables with a sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.00 < 0.05 and a Pearson correlation of 0.615. So it can be concluded that there was a positive significant correlation between students' reading habit and critical thinking skills in eleventh grade IPA students at SMAN 12 Rejang Lebong with a high correlation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out how student learning behavior is viewed from the aspect of motivation and attention in learning EFL in Blended learning. To find out the obstacles or difficulties faced by students while learning English as a foreign language using blended learning. This research use desciptive qualitative approach. The technique used in data collection is the technique of observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions/verification. Test the validity of the data using triangulation techniques. The results of this study indicate that student learning behavior in terms of motivation and attention in learning English as a foreign language using blended learning has fulfilled the markers of experts employed in theory, however not 100% of students are motivated in blended learning. This is due to a variety of reasons, including signal and quota constraint.

Abstract

This study's main goal was to ascertain whether the silent way method had a significant effect on the vocabulary achievement of eighth-grade students at SMPN 29 Bengkulu Tengah. In this research, a quasi-experimental design was used. In this study, there were two classes of students. The first group includes the experimental class, while the second includes the control class. The two groups were then given a pre-test and a post-test. With the two classes, various strategies were employed. The experimental class was instructed using the silent way method, whereas the control class was instructed using the direct method, as a result of the application of this strategy in classroom instruction. This study's sampling technique was a purposive sampling method. During the gathering of data, the researcher used the test as a research tool. The test consists of 20 valid multiple-choice questions that are presented in this method. The researcher tested the validity of the hypothesis using the independent sample t-test in the SPSS 22 program. According to the findings of the hypothesis test, the independent sample t-test (sig. 2-tailed) result was 0.000, which is less than 0.05, and the t-count value is 4.698, which is more than the t-table df=22 (2.07387). Therefore, it can be stated that the silent way method of teaching had a significant effect on vocabulary achievement among students at SMPN 29 Bengkulu Tengah.
