Abstract

Packaging is an important element in maintaining food quality and safety. Aisyiyah is a women's organization that exists to support the government in various fields, one of which is the welfare of the people through the Economic and Welfare Council in developing and marketing food that has economic value as tourist souvenirs. The obstacle faced is the weak packaging design. Training and empowerment in visual merchandising design management was carried out for Aisyiyah residents in Karanganyar. Aisyiyah residents as a partnership network of lecturers under LPPMPP ISI Surakarta handle problems with training assistance from the design and postgraduate departments. The strategy chosen for empowerment is ecologically based, using the Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA) Method. In this method, participants are invited to learn to understand the potential and awareness of maintaining environmental safety, and are able to build motivation for EcoDesign creativity. The Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method emphasizes participant involvement in being able to foster creativity related to the personal potential of traders, building creative interior design abilities, especially related to merchandise image. The results of the empowerment training consist of (1) participants' skills in analyzing packaging design needs for culinary businesses; (2) The creative results of merchandise packaging designs consist of snacks, side dishes, bags, batik in the concept of plastic wrap, paper, and environmentally friendly rattan bags and paper bags. Empowerment activities can be utilized: (1) Recommendations on design offers for group businesses; (1) Providing participants with skills and knowledge in developing culinary businesses independently

Abstract

Abstract Parks are important parts that cannot be left out in the design of urban landscape, architecture and interior design. Its existence is able to provide a fresh and comfortable atmosphere so that the quality of human life will be better. In its development, the availability of an ideal park in an urban environment is felt to be lack due to the increasingly limited land such as the narrow yard of the house or even no more area to make the park. Another challenge is how to utilize limited areas for in-door parks in both residential and public buildings that are more practical and efficient. This applied research aims to address this problem by offering a garden design with a hydroponic planting system which is now commonly used in agriculture or plantations to be applied to in-door garden designs. The research carried out in Surakarta is the process through identification, design experiments and design trials. The data in the form of artifacts, literature, and informants is carried out through observation, study of literature, interviews, and documentation. Design experiments are carried out using a design and aesthetic approach strengthened by an evocative, educative, psychological and socio-cultural approach. The SWOT analysis model is used in designing in-door garden designs. Design trials is executed through the activities of realizing design (experimental products) and their application (design implementation), evaluation, refinement of design concepts and formulation of recommendations. Keywords: in-door garden, hydroponic, narrow land, Surakarta. Abstract

Rattan is a natural material with high fiber content.  Rattan is cut into various sizes and types to be utilized. The process of cutting and slicing generally leaves waste in the form of elongated rattan hearts of irregular shapes and sizes. The amount is large, almost 30%, and is not utilized. However, waste from the splitting process in the rattan industry is usually disposed of through burning, leading to substantial waste. Therefore, this study aims to reduce rattan splitting waste through weaving techniques and then use it as a basis for innovation in furniture products and interior elements. The study was conducted using an experimental research method to produce woven sheets. Karen weaving has been applied to materials with similar characteristics, such as lidi, vetiver, and bamboo. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis, with inferential analysis, tests the hypothesis by generalizing. Following the weaving experiment, natural coloring and interior product design were conducted. The design process included sketching, creating shop drawings, modeling, and bringing the design to life through prototypes. The results consist of woven rattan fiber strip sheets with a striped pattern, light brown color, textured, somewhat rigid, yet flexible enough to be folded or rolled lengthwise. Various techniques can be applied to crafting products, such as gluing, bending, rolling, folding, and sewing. The most effective application of woven rattan fiber sheets is fixed attachment on a flat surface with a flat direction. The contribution of research results can add alternative materials for the creation of craft products, furniture, and interiors made from rattan waste woven sheets. These rattan fiber strip sheets can be applied in 2D and 3D homeware product designs, serving decorative and protective functions.
