Abstract

Introduction: Cardiac arrest is the most pre-hospital emergency cases. Approximately 30.000 people have cardiac arrest in pre-hospital and about 33% have treated with bystander. Basic life support (BLS) with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a first aid procedure that needs to be performed in this case. Death could occur within minutes if the first aid does not adequately performed. The study aimed to know the effect of BLS courses on the community knowledge level in the North Denpasar District. Methods: The study was a pre-experimental study with a pre-posttest design. Study participant selected by cluster random sampling technique and 199 participants chosen as study participants. To collect the community knowledge data, a questionnaire employed in this study. American Heart Association (AHA) guideline for the public published in 2015 enrolled as a reference in organizing ten questions in the questionnaire with Guttman Scale. Results: The characteristics of respondents were 27% participants were aged between 30-39 years, 56% graduated from senior high school, 55% work as employees and 90% never attended BLS training program. There was a significant mean difference from the pre-test and post-test data. The mean difference before and after the BLS course were 8.38 and 9.74, respectively. There was a significant correlation between the BLS course and the level of knowledge (p = 0.000). Conclusion: The level of knowledge about BLS before the course was 63%. It classified into a good knowledge level. The level of knowledge about BLS after the course was significantly improved. It increased to 97.5%.

Abstract

Introduction: Unstable blood glucose levels in patient with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) can cause various complications, one of which is peripheral neuropathy. Peripheral neuropathy is caused by atherosclerosis. The incidence of atherosclerosis can be seen by assessing the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI). This study aims to describe the ABI score in type 2 DM patients. Methods: The design of this study is a descriptive observational located at the Wirasatya Army Hospital, Singaraja in April 2022. The subjects were 81 patients with type 2 DM. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. Measurement of the ABI score is carried out using an Oscillometric Sphygmomanometer. Descriptive analysis is used in this study and presented by frequency distribution. Results: This study found that 33.3% of subjects aged 44-55 years, 63.0% of subjects of male, 77.8% of subjects suffering from type 2 DM between 1 to 5 years, 32.1% working as entrepreneurs, and 78.2% having ABI scores between 1.0-1.4 so that they are included in the normal category. Conclusion: Patients with type 2 DM in the age group of 44-55 years, male, suffering from type 2 DM between 1 to 5 years, working as self-employed and more have normal ABI scores.

Abstract

Old age has a higher risk for suffering from dementia. Although there is currently no cure for dementia, there are several modality therapies that can be applied to help deal with complaints that arise in dementia. This study aims to identify the effect of modality therapy on cognitive, physiological and psychological changes in dementia patients. A systematic review was conducted, we performed a systematic review on Science direct, PubMed, Ebsco, Web of Science, Cinahl, Research Gate database for relevant articles. Studies were included if the interventions with modality therapy were carried out in Dementia patients, both those treated at home and nursing homes. A total of 17 articles were included and 3 main categories emerged: cognitive, physiological, and psychological. Some therapeutic studio modalities can improve cognitive and physiological. Of these three categories, the category of psychological change is most often found. Psychological changes in depression, delusions and hallucinations (psychosis), agitation, apathy, aggression, sleep disturbance and disinhibition (inappropriate social relations and sections). The provision of modality therapy can help improve psychological problems of patients treated both at home and in nursing homes, and this modality therapy can be recommended in providing implementation and activities tailored to the patient's characteristics and controlling external factors to achieve therapeutic effectiveness.

Abstract

Diabetic wounds are a complication of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) which is caused by peripheral blood vessel disorders and neuropathy. Treatment for diabetic wounds is not sufficient to be treated using antibiotics, but wound care must be carried out. The important thing in wound care is time and quality to improve the healing of the procedure and to reduce the costs associated with healing. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of administering VCO on diabetic wound healing. This study used a one group pre- post test experimental design to determine differences in the degree and extent of wounds as well as wound healing time after being given VCO. The number of samples in this study was 11 people in 1 group of patients who had DM wounds. Most of the respondents were aged 56 – 65 years (54.6%) and were male (63.6%). In pre-test conditions or before being given VCO. Most of the wound area before intervention was (11.85) with the base color of the wound being red, the type of fluid being serious to haemooserous, the skin around the wound being healthy, erythema, edema and hyperpigmentation with an average of epithelium (1.82). Most of the wound areas after intervention were large (6.65) with the base color of the wound pink (epitilization), dry to serous fluid type, the skin around the wound was healthy, with an average epilation (68.64). There was a significant difference between before and after wound treatment using VCO in terms of diabetic wound area of 0.006 and wound epithelialization of 0.000 where p < 0.05. VCO can increase skin moisture which can stimulate collagen synthesis thereby accelerating epithelialization and granulation of wound tissue.
