Abstract

Education is the most powerful weapon and is the key to success. The livestock farmers' children's education is very important and related to the role of education in increasing knowledge, skill, and attitude, which improves the welfare of the farmer's family. Therefore, improving the farmers' commitment to children's education and the factors affected by it is necessary. Based on the previous statement, this study aimed to reveal the factors influencing farmers' commitment to children's education. This study was conducted in the Baturraden, Sumbang, Kembaran, and Sokaraja Subdistricts, Banyumas Regency, from January to February 2023, using a cross-sectional survey approach. A total of 525 livestock farmers were recorded as respondents. The data obtained were Structural Equational Modeling Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) analyzed utilizing the SmartPLS 4 software. The results of this study showed that the increase in farmers' financial condition, children's desires, interests, and motivation could increase farmers' commitment to children's education. The farmers’ knowledge of education services variables did not affect the farmers’ commitment. Farmers’ financial conditions could indirectly affect farmers’ commitment through interests and motivation. A similar condition also occurred in farmers' children’s desire and knowledge of education services. It could be concluded from this study that improving farmers' financial condition followed by intense government educational services information dissemination could improve farmers' commitment to children's education, which would enhance children's academic level in rural areas of Indonesia.

Abstract

Indonesian Muslims need a well-established Islamic education that can accommodate diversity as the characteristic of Indonesia. Nurcholish Madjid (1939-2005), a neo-Modernist, has an inclusive and philosophical Islamic thought that can be used as the philosophical paradigm of Indonesian Islamic education. This study intends to interpret the thinking of Nurcholish Madjid related to Islamic education using Hans Georg Gadamer’s hermeneutic model. This study shows that knowledge is a manifestation of ‘aql, one of human potential as khalīfah. Cak Nur’s objective of Islamic education is divided into four categories that led to the awareness of human existence as God’s servant and khalīfah. The model of Cak Nur’s education is humanistic education which focuses on moral education. The multicultural education of Cak Nur, which comes from the generic meaning of Islam, is tolerance education to the diversity of religions, religious understanding, and the acceptance of local wisdom. Cak Nur's educational thinking is not a practical theory, but a philosophical foundation that is easily accepted by people with the epistemology of burhānī thought.

Abstract

This article examines how Islam is represented in Western media and how Southeast Asian Muslim communities interpret and respond to these representations. Using Hans-Georg Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics and Homi K. Bhabha’s theory of cultural hybridity, this study explores the intersection between Western media narratives about Islam and the regional cultural contexts of Muslims in Southeast Asia. Representations of Islam in Western media often contain orientalist bias and symbolic simplifications that shape the global public’s perception of Muslims. However, Muslims do not always accept these depictions unquestioningly. Traditionally, Muslims in Southeast Asia have negotiated meaning and constructed new identities that combine Islamic traditions with modern values. This study employs a qualitative–hermeneutic approach by analyzing Western digital media texts including online news outlets (BBC, CNN) and popular audiovisual platforms (Netflix, YouTube) alongside Muslim audience responses collected from social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok. The findings demonstrate the formation of a dynamic hybrid identity resulting from the interaction between Western media portrayals and Southeast Asian Muslim socio-religious practices in the digital era. This raises epistemological challenges in understanding religious authority and symbolic meaning in online spaces. Therefore, a more critical and contextual approach is needed in rereading the representation of Islam within the global media landscape.
