Abstract

Efforts that can be taken in community welfare and development programs are the fulfillment of thequality and quantity of animal protein. An alternative to meet the needs of meat/animal protein is fromducks. However, in reality the maintenance of ducks often experiences problems with the length ofharvest and the quality of meat that contains a lot of cholesterol, and the mortality of livestock is veryhigh so that the use of banana peels is expected to increase the intestinal microflora and immunity ofducks and can reduce cholesterol levels of duck meat, so that productivity increases. The purpose ofthe community service program engaged in agriculture-food using banana peels is to pioneer theformation of SMEs engaged in the production of low-cholesterol ducks, develop a pilot business forlow-cholesterol duck products using banana peels, and apply various innovations and findings relatedto the use of banana peels. so that it can be more easily applied by society and industry. The result ofthe extension and mentoring activities was an increase in understanding and application of rationformulations by partner duck farmers. In addition, increasing the production and welfare of partnerduck farmers in Kerawan Sari Village, South Lampung Regency.

Abstract

Beef cattle are one of the livestock species that contribute significantly to the animal protein supply. Helminthiasis is a parasitic disease that infects cattle worldwide. Although it rarely causes severe clinical illness, it may result in substantial economic losses for farmers. These losses are primarily associated with increased morbidity and, in severe cases, mortality, thereby reducing productivity and growth performance. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of helminthiasis in beef cattle raised in smallholder farms in Bandar Lampung City. A proportionate stratified random sampling method was applied, with a sample size of 10% of the total livestock-owning population across 17 sub-districts. A total of 110 faecal samples were collected from 89 farms. Samples were examined using sedimentation and McMaster techniques. The results showed that 61 (55.5%) cattle were positive for gastrointestinal helminths. Identified parasites included Nematoda (Haemonchus sp., Oesophagustomum sp., Strongyloides sp., Bunostomum sp., Trichuris sp., Mecistocirrus sp., Trichostrongylus sp., Ascaris sp.), Trematoda (Fasciola sp., Paramphistomum sp.), and Cestoda (Moniezia sp.).

Abstract

Background: The increase in feed and DOC costs has become the main factor squeezing the profit margins of broiler chicken businesses. Various phytogenic feed additives have been reported to improve production performance, but most studies still focus on biological parameters such as weight gain and feed conversion. Studies evaluating its impact on economic indicators, particularly Income Over Feed and Chick Cost (IOFCC), are still limited, especially regarding the use of local plants such as andaliman (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium). Objective: This study aims to analyze the effect of adding Andaliman extract in the feed on the IOFCC value of broiler chickens as an indicator of economic production performance. Method: The research was conducted over 28 days using a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments and four replications: P0 (without extract), P1 (0.5%), P2 (0.75%), P3 (1%), and P4 (1.25%). The observed parameters include feed price, ration cost, final weight, selling price, income, and IOFCC value. Data were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively based on actual economic evaluation. Results: The addition of Sichuan pepper extract increased final weight, income, and IOFC value. The highest IOFCC value was obtained in P4 at Rp 23,805.65/head, followed by P3 at Rp 22,994.75/head, while the lowest was in P2 at Rp 14,575.50/head. The 1–1.25% level shows the best economic efficiency, which is suspected to be related to the activity of bioactive compounds such as flavonoids and terpenoids. Conclusion: Andaliman extract at levels of 1–1.25% has the potential to serve as a natural feed additive based on local resources to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of broiler chicken farming.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of distilled water (aquadest) and 70% acetone as solvents in extracting bioactive compounds from Acacia mangium bark, which has potential as a feed additive. The extraction process was carried out using the reflux method with a solvent-to-sample ratio of 10:1 (w/v) at a temperature of 90–100 °C. The resulting extracts were then analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively through phytochemical tests to identify the presence of secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, tannins, saponins, alkaloids, and phenolics. The extraction results showed that the yield of Acacia mangium bark extract using 70% acetone was 8,902%, whereas that using distilled water was 1,219%. The findings also indicated that 70% acetone produced extracts with higher phenolic compound content compared to distilled water. Furthermore, quantitative analyses of total tannin and total phenolic contents revealed higher values in the extracts obtained with 70% acetone than those with distilled water. Therefore, 70% acetone can be recommended as an effective solvent for extracting bioactive components from Acacia mangium bark using the reflux (heating) method, demonstrating its potential application as a natural additive source to enhance feed quality.
