Abstract

Nirmana is a mandatory basic competency for academic artists. Strengthening the basics of Nirmana is compulsory so that fine artists and designers maintain their bargaining position in society. One of the rising media to learn Nirmana is teaching videos available on online platforms such as YouTube. With the many types and styles of Nirmana learning videos available on YouTube, a study to analyze which type of videos are effective in learning Nirmana is needed. This study uses content analysis to classify videos that convey information about Nirmana into four groups: live demonstration videos, animated videos, conventional lecture videos, and tutorials (Step-by-step). To determine the video's effectiveness, the responses from viewers were analyzed using a pragmatic approach. From the analysis results, teaching videos in the form of live demonstrations, animations, and tutorials proved to be the most effective in assisting viewers to learn about Nirmana. Videos with these concepts can convey information in an engaging, clear, and visually understandable way, thus improving student understanding more effectively. Integrating the appropriate teaching videos into the Nirmana curriculum, such as live demonstrations for practical projects and animated videos or tutorials or theory, can help students understand Nirmana better.

Antawacana is one of the speech cultural activities of natural sound mimesis in Javanese society. It is the speech and sounds performed by Dalang of Wayang Purwa (puppeteers of shadow puppet performance). This research examines the potential of Indonesian domestic onomatopoeia, especially Javanese, which comes from the speech of puppeteers as an asset to support the increase in potential and productivity in the field of graphic design. This research converts audio into visual items to develop Indonesian domestic onomatopoeia based on the domestic cultural asset of Antawacana. This research interprets sound into visuals by using Antawacana as the basis for visualization. The variety of sounds in Antawacana itself results from Dalang’s interpretation. This research contributes to the Indonesian creative industry by providing visual assets based on Antawacana. These assets can assist the communication process in other creative works. In addition, along with technological developments, the potential of onomatopoeia as a domestic cultural asset can be developed into an artificial intelligence asset in online graphic design creation platforms.

Abstract

Crude oil is one of the household wastes that are often disposed haphazardly without adequate management thus posing environmental pollution and impacting public health. On the other hand, this waste has the potential to be processed into selling-value products, one of which is aromatherapy candles. The market need for aromatherapy candles is relatively high, both for decorative and relaxation needs, so the utilization of safflower oil as a basic ingredient of candle making could be an opportunity for community creative economic empowerment. The March Eleventh University Real Work Tuition (KKN) program was implemented in Krikilan Village, Kalijambe District, Sragen County, with the aim of improving the skills of mothers of Hope Family Program (WHO) beneficiaries through basic roadside aromatherapy candle making training. This activity uses the methods of extension, demonstration, live practice, as well as accompaniment. Activity participants numbered 30 housewives who participated actively in the whole training series. Training results showed a significant improvement in the aspects of knowledge regarding the environmental impact of crude oil, technical skills of wax manufacturing, as well as understanding regarding the economic potential of the product. The resulting aromatherapy wax products have marketable aesthetic qualities and fragrances, thus opening up opportunities for household-based small businesses. Additionally, these activities impact on increasing participants’ sense of self-confidence and social solidarity, which is an important capital in building economic self-reliance. The program proves that a creative skills-based empowerment approach can be an innovative solution in waste management as well as improving community well-being.
