Halimi, E.S., Zaidan, Z., Susilawati, S., Adriansyah, F., Cahyani, A.I., Panjaitan, M.S., Agustina, P., & Nuraini, H. (2023). Growth yield and segregation of several f3 generation of pepper accessions selected from the cross of curly and cayenne peppers. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-11 Tahun 2023, Palembang  21 Oktober 2023. (pp. 358-369). Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Suboptimal land, in general,  refers to condition of the land not prefectly suitable for cultivation, including those containing propagul caused disease infestation. On pepper cultivation, very often occurs disease infestation such as antracnose desease. Crossing curly and cayenne peppers was intended to obtain accessions of curly pepper having fruit position upward such as in cayenne pepper that capable of avoiding  several diseases infestation.  The F3-seeds were  prepared 3 years prior to this research with selection to choose plant genotypes having fruit position upward. Research was done in-cooperation with farmer at Kecamatan Gunung Megang, Muaraenim on December 2022 to May 2023 based on Randomized Block Design with  two accessions and three blocks with 10-15 plants per plot. Research  indicated that both accessions showed good growth and yield with relatively similar harvesting period and yield potential. Interestingly, we observed several recombinat plants having fruit shape identical to curly peppers with fruit position upward.  The plants of CK3(2)xCR3(6) accession, however had more slender fruit shape as compared to CK6(8)xCR6(4) accession. Furthermore observation indicated the presence of segregation of this character. Accession of CK3(2)xCR3(6) showed higher segregation value of 50% than CK6(8)xCR6(4) accession  with segregation value of  25%.

The relationship of farmers' education level to pest and disease attacks in plant cultivation in South Sumatra. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-12 Tahun 2024, Palembang  21 Oktober 2024. (pp. 787–798).  Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).The aimed of this research was to determine the behavior and understanding of farmers in using pesticides based on educational background. Pesticide is a poisonous chemical which is able to ruin human and animal health and also pollute the environment. The use of pesticide has to consider five properness i. e. proper target, proper active ingredient, proper time, proper dosage/concentration and proper equipment. Knowledge is one of factors affecting people behavior, including behavior in pesticide application. The less knowledge of farmers in pesticide application made them use too much pesticide which might cause degradation of environment and pesticide residue in agricultural products which is dangerous to consumers. Method applied in the study was an interview method using questionnaire to 180 farmers, followed by field observation in their field. 57% of respondents had Elementary School background, 20% had Junior High Scholl background, 23% had Senior High School background and one of them had university education background. The average score of pesticide use was 1,92 from farmers who graduated from bachelor, then the pesticide score of farmers who graduated from elementry school, junior high school, and high school had the same pesticide score of 2,39 and all education is categorized as good in using pesticides. The pesticide application score did not correlate with the presence of pest in the field but significanly correlate with the prsence of plant diseases. The highest plant disease intensity (26.55) was found in the farms belonged to farmers with elementary school backfround, while the lowest (6.61) was found in the field of farmer with university educational background.

Abstract

Suboptimal land such as tidal swamps is still quite widespread in Indonesia and has a low fertility level. This land requires good management to support optimal crop production. One management that still has the potential to be developed is the use of microorganisms, namely AMF. Use of AMF in tidal soil in the form of AMF inoculant as a natural biofertilizer. The aim of the research is to evaluate the effectiveness of local tidal AMF propagules produced during trapping on corn host plants which will be used later as biofertilizer. This study used a factorial randomized complete group design (RKLT). The first factor is the dose of local AMF propagules from the corn host plant (0, 5 and 10 g plant-1) and the second factor is the fertilization interval (1 and 2 times a week), with 3 replications for each treatment unit consisting of 20 plants. The application of AMF propagules showed an effect on plant height, leaf green level, shoot dry weight and percentage of AMF infection. The level of greenness of corn plant leaves was highest when 5 g of AMF propagules were given when compared with 10 g of AMF propagules and without AMF propagules. The increase in the percentage of infection of corn roots by AMF at 10 g of AMF propagules+1 time a week when compared with no AMF propagules+1 time a week and 5 g of propagules+fertilization 2 times a week was 50.67% and 46.34%.

Abstract

Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is one of the vegetables that is widely loved because of its taste and nutritional content. The increase in lettuce production can be increased by the use of swamp land with floating cultivation during the flood season. The size of the pots used in floating system cultivation will affect the growth and number of plants that will be produced. The study aimed to determine the optimal of planting media volume on the growth and yield of lettuce in floating cultivation system. The research used a randomized block design with 4 treatments of planting media volume, namely 1.9 L (P1), 2.7 L (P2), 3.6 L(P3), and 5 L (P4). Each treatment was repeated 4 times and each replication consisted of 5 plants. The results showed that at the beginning of the growth of the media volume of 2.7 L would be faster, but at the time of harvest almost all parameters showed that plants with a media volume of 5 L produced a larger plant weight than the plant unit. Although the use of smaller volumes of media results in a smaller plant weight, the raft is able to accommodate a larger number of pots. So that the use of a media volume of 1.9 L will be better used for floating lettuce production.

Abstract

This community service program aims to implement a child-friendly sign system at SDS Sawitan PT. Bangkit Giat Usaha Mandiri (BUM) to support the Child-Friendly School concept in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) No. 8 of 2014. The activities were carried out using a participatory method, involving teachers, students, and the KKN team in four stages: planning, production and installation, socialization and education, and evaluation. The signs were designed with bright colors, simple illustrations, and easy-to-understand language, and were printed on safe and weather-resistant materials. As a result, students were able to understand the signs without additional explanations, showed improved orderly behavior and compliance with rules, and required fewer verbal instructions from teachers. Socialization efforts with students and parents extended the educational impact into the home environment. The evaluation indicated the need to adjust the position of several signs to enhance visibility. Overall, this program successfully created a safer, more informative, and conducive learning environment, while instilling values of discipline, cleanliness, and care from an early age. This success underscores the importance of cross-sector collaboration in producing sustainable educational visual solutions for elementary schools.
