Abstract

Digital literacy is a critical element of multiliteracy framework required to thrive in digital era and perceived as cross-curricular competencies, yet it is not adequately addressed in English language teaching. This paper explores the traits of the authentic academic digital practices in the course outlines of English language skills conducive for digital literacy development, examines the extent to which digital literacy are infused in the authentic academic digital practices of the English courses and proposes the procedure of infusing digital literacy in the authentic academic digital practices of English language teaching. The study employs content analysis to address the data—the traits of authentic academic digital practices in fifty-five course outlines of English language skills subjects from six English Language Education and English Literature Study Programs in Jakarta and West Java. The findings recognize the traits of authentic academic digital practices in the digital academic products, such as the answers to open-/closed-ended questions, essays, presentation slides, papers, videos, podcasts, recorded audio-visual presentations, and reports diversely used across the courses. These digital academic products are used merely as the media in which English is used; only English proficiency is highlighted. The underpinning digital competencies to create the media, the media creation process and the media as digital academic products are not sufficiently addressed and measured. Digital literacy is infused in the authentic academic digital practices of English language teaching through five stages of identifying the components of digital literacies and the authentic academic digital practices and products, analysing the descriptors of digital literacies components pertaining to authentic academic digital practices and products, integrating the descriptors of digital literacies into learning outcomes, embedding digital literacies into academic products, employing authentic academic digital practices in the learning process, and assessing digital literacies as cross-curricular competencies

Abstract

Jakarta State University has built a network with the giant company Microsoft to optimize the performance of the academic community at the level of students, educators, and staffs. Unfortunately, the utilization of the services that have been provided has not been optimal, even though only a few of the academic community are still consistent with the existing services. The focus of this service is to look at one feature that is very productive and has been used in various countries, namely Microsoft Teams. For this reason, this service activity is actualized in the form of training for staffs at the Jakarta State University. During the training process, the enthusiasm of the participants was clearly seen through the questions asked by them and their curiosity regarding the application from downloading to using it. Initially, the participants thought that this application could only be used for learning and could not be used by staffs. After training, the function of this application can finally be optimized in governance. The important point in optimizing this application is how to build a digital work environment, create work plans, progress reports, and feedback. This training went well, and it is important to carry out further training. Most of the participants also recommended that the training process in the future can be carried out offline so that the practice process and communication between participants can run optimally.

Abstract

Abstract. The objective of this study is to determine the justifications for employing online and offline learning models in the covid-19 pandemic, as well as the barriers to their use. This study was carried out at SMP Negeri 2 Kota Sorong. This study employs a descriptive qualitative methodology. The data for the study were gathered via interviews. Principal, English teachers, and students of SMP Negeri 2 Kota Sorong were questioned during the interviews.  According to this study's findings, there were two learning models used during the covivirus-19 epidemic. Both online and traditional forms of education are included into the instructional format of this strategy. Because the students' financial resources are inadequate to support online learning, a school first used offline learning at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is one of the reasons why the school employs both methods of education. In addition to the challenges students experience throughout the learning process, there are a further four obstacles. The conclusion findings indicated that the two learning models were though somewhat successful. Furthermore, the principal developed a new learning model for post-pandemic Covid-19 recovery. Keywords: Teaching, Learning Model, Obstacles.

Abstract

Teachers play a crucial role in the success of education and bear significant responsibilities towards both students and the state. Consequently, it is expected that teachers possess the competencies established by law, which include pedagogical, personal, professional, and social competencies. Competency enhancement can be achieved through training and various other activities, one of which is the Subject Teacher Consultation (MGMP). Within the MGMP for German language teachers, there is a pressing need to improve teachers' professional competencies in linguistic aspects. A B1-level German language training program has been designed to assist teachers with their listening skills by providing model questions and tips for international certification exams. The training outcomes indicate a significant improvement in participants' scores, moving from a satisfactory to a good category. Therefore, it is recommended that this training be continued, with the possibility of conducting it in person in the future. Abstract

Generative artificial-intelligence (GenAI) systems are rapidly permeating language education, yet their effects in multilingual, resource-varied classrooms remain under-examined. This 14-week qualitative multiple-case study investigated how GenAI mediates learner autonomy, inclusive participation, multicultural identity work, and teacher practice in four Indonesian EFL settings (three senior-high schools and one university). Data comprised 24 hours of classroom observation, 76 semi-structured interviews, four focus-group discussions, and 6 752 learner-AI log entries. Reflexive thematic analysis produced four inter-locking themes. AI-mediated autonomy emerged as students progressed from copying teacher prompts to crafting and iterating their own, evidenced by a 142 % rise in self-initiated prompting and increased lexical diversity (type–token ratio =.58). Inclusive voice was fostered through translanguaging cycles, text-to-speech, and complexity-controlled outputs, elevating the unique-speaker index from .54 to .82. In multicultural identity negotiation, learners embedded local idioms (e.g., sipakatau) and deployed iterative counter-prompts to correct Western-centric bias, averaging 2.1 revisions per cultural task. Pedagogical re-positioning saw teacher talk-time fall from 61 % to 34 %, as instructors shifted from grammar transmitters to AI-literacy mentors who facilitated prompt-engineering and bias-hunt workshops. These benefits were conditional on equitable connectivity and critical-AI scaffolding; absent such supports, GenAI risked reinforcing dependency and cultural erasure. The study advances a blended sociocultural–critical-digital-literacy framework, offering practical design principles (prompt workshops, bias-mitigation routines) and policy guidance (minimum-access packages) for the equitable integration of GenAI into language education.

Abstract

Abstract. This study investigates the role of artificial intelligence (AI), specifically Deepseek, as a learning partner in A2-level German writing (Schreiben). The research focuses on error analysis, revision processes, and students’ perceptions of using Deepseek in writing tasks. Participants were second-semester students of the German Language Education Program at State University of Jakarta. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, drawing on student texts before and after correction, Deepseek’s feedback, and responses to an open-ended questionnaire on students’ experiences. The procedure includes six steps: (1) student produced a text on a predetermined topic, (2) the text was corrected by Deepseek using structured prompt, (3) student revised their texts based on AI feedback, (4) Students were devided into groups and discuss the result of DeepSeek correction, (5) each group presented the result of their discussion, and (6) student perceptions were gathered through questionaries. Findings indicate that the most frequent errors concerned grammar, particularly case usage (Akkusativ, Dativ), prepositions, verb conjugation, articles, and word choice. Students expressed predominantly positive perceptions, noting that AI fosters writing autonomy, error awareness, and provides immediate feedback. The study concludes that AI can serve as an effective learning partner in foreign language writing, particularly German, by improving the quality of student texts and fostering learner autonomy. Keywords: AI Feedback, Deepseek, Schreiben, Error Analysis
