(2-tailed) > 0,05 yaitu 0,000 > 0,05 maka Ha ditolak.

Abstract

This article examines the role of surau education in shaping Buya Hamka's inclusive and tolerant attitude towards local Minangkabau traditions. Departing from the agenda of religious moderation and the importance of local wisdom, this study highlights a gap in research that has so far mostly discussed Hamka's moderation or Minangkabau surau separately. The study uses a qualitative approach with a literature study, combining historical-sociological and biographical-intellectual analysis of Hamka's educational journey, as well as content analysis of his works related to customs and Qur'anic interpretation. The results show, first, that Minangkabau surau education, including during its transformation into a madrasah, produced a configuration of monotheistic values, Sufism, morals, deliberation, and a balance between religion and custom that aligns with the concept of wasathiyah. Second, Hamka's attitude towards local traditions is both inclusive and exclusive: he embraced customs as a source of moral wisdom, but firmly committed to practices that violated justice and monotheism. Third, the values and pedagogical mechanisms of the surau act as a foundation and “ethical anchor” that enable Hamka to combine intellectual openness with respect for local traditions, while also offering a conceptual model for the development of local wisdom-based Islamic education in contemporary Indonesia

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of Malay cultural values in Islamic education through a contextual approach based on local culture (Contextual Teaching and Learning/CTL). Malay culture possesses its own noble values, such as politeness, respect for social hierarchy, mutual cooperation, and the principle of adat bersendi syarak, syarak bersendi Kitabullah. All of which are aligned with the teachings of Islam. Although many studies have discussed Islamic education and local culture, research that specifically examines the integration of Malay cultural values within the CTL learning framework remains limited. Therefore, this study aims to fill this research gap through the conceptual and theoretical analysis. This is a library research using a qualitative descriptive approach by analyzing various relevant scholarly sources on Malay culture, Islamic education, and CTL theory. The findings indicates that Malay cultural values can be conceptually structured as a foundation for integration within the curriculum and instructional strategies of Islamic education. This integration had the potential to strengthen the development of students’ religious and social character while also contributing to the preservation of Malay cultural identity in the educational context. This study was theoretical in nature. It is expected to enrich the body of knowledge in Islamic education and serve as a foundation for future empirical research.

Abstract

This study presents an analysis of Malay civilization and its pivotal role in history, emphasizing that Islamization occurred through longterm social, economic, and cultural interactions. It aims to explain the strategic role of trade routes between Gujarat and Malacca in spreading Islam across the Malay Archipelago. Using a qualitative library research method, the results show that Gujarat functioned as a major trade center and primary intermediary in the Indian Ocean since the 13th century. Through maritime activities, Muslim traders introduced Islamic teachings to Malacca, which evolved into the archipelago’s main religious center. Beyond economic factors, this process was strengthened by intermarriage, cohesive Muslim communities, and adaptive da'wah. Furthermore, the role of Islamic scholars (ulama) was crucial as they served as religious teachers, political advisors, and intellectual figures who adapted Islamic teachings into local Malay culture. This research underscores that such cultural adaptation laid the groundwork for a moderate form of Islam in the archipelago. Ultimately, these historical dynamics provide vital insights into the resilient and adaptive nature of Islamic civilization in Southeast Asia.
