Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ grammar skills the Task-Based Language Teaching Approach for Grade XI Students at MAN 1 PROBOLINGGO. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) with 8 eleventh-grade students. Data were collected through grammar tests administered before and after the intervention, supported by classroom documentation. The findings indicate a substantial increase in students’ grammar performance after the treatment. The mean pretest score was 28,75, which rose to 46.25 on the posttest. The average improvement of 17.50 points demonstrates the positive effect of the instructional intervention. Therefore, Task-Based Language Teaching is proven to be an effective approach to improve students’ grammar achievement and interest in English learning.

Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve students' writing skills through the implementation of literature-based learning, specifically poetry, integrated into the learning module in English lessons at MAN 1 Probolinggo. The research was conducted in two cycles covering the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection, with 11th-grade students as the subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis, then analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results of the study showed a significant improvement in students' writing skills, in terms of creativity, word choice, and sentence structure, as indicated by an increase in the average writing score from the pre-test to the post-test. Poetry-based learning also created a reflective and inspiring classroom atmosphere, helping students see writing not only as language practice, but as a means of meaningful self-expression. Thus, this learning strategy proved effective in improving students' writing competence and overall learning motivation.

Abstract

This classroom action research (CAR) investigated the use of the picture series technique to enhance narrative writing creativity and coherence among 10 twelfth-grade EFL students at MAN 1 Probolinggo. Conducted in two cycles, data were collected through observations, writing tests, and interviews. Findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ creativity (from 67.8 to 82.4) and coherence (from 75.1 to 84.7). Qualitative results indicated greater motivation, confidence, and engagement. The study concludes that visual prompts help students conceptualize ideas, structure narratives logically, and perceive writing as a creative process. Pedagogically, this research contributes to EFL writing instruction and multimodal learning, highlighting visual-based techniques as effective for enhancing both cognitive and affective learning dimensions

Abstract

This study aims to find effective learning steps in improving students' speaking skills through the use of literary texts. This study involved 13 students from class XB and was conducted in two cycles following the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which consists of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Quantitative data were obtained from pretest and posttest scores. The results showed that there was a significant improvement in students' speaking performance, with the percentage of students achieving a minimum passing score (≥75) increasing from 15.4% to 53.8%, and the average score increasing from 68.8 to 74.6. Literature-based learning, through activities such as reading poetry, listening, and discussing song themes successfully increased students' confidence, fluency, and motivation. These findings emphasize that the integration of literature in English teaching creates a meaningful and enjoyable learning experience that effectively improves students' communicative abilities.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ grammar skills through literature-based instruction at MAN 1 Probolinggo. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design. The participants consisted of 11 eleventh-grade students selected purposively. Data were collected through grammar tests administered before and after the intervention, supported by classroom documentation. The findings revealed that the students’ average pretest score (32.27) increased to 47.73 in the posttest, showing an improvement of 47.9%. This result indicates that literature-based instruction effectively enhances students’ understanding of grammatical structures—particularly simple present, simple past, and present continuous tenses—through contextual learning. The use of song lyrics such as Drunk Text, Cars Outside, and Photograph also fostered motivation and engagement throughout the lessons. Therefore, literature-based instruction is proven to be an effective approach to improving students’ grammar achievement and interest in English learning.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' reading skills in literary texts by utilizing songs in the English learning process. This research uses Classroom Action Research following the Kemmis and McTaggart model, with four main phases: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. This research was conducted at SMAN 1 Paiton, in the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year with 32 students from class XII SMAN 1 Paiton as the research subjects. The learning process was carried out through two cycles using English songs. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, reading tests, and documentation. The research findings showed a significant improvement in students' reading skills, from an average score of 63.4 before the intervention to 74.1 in cycle I and 84.3 in cycle II. The learning pass rate increased from 0% to 90.6%. In addition, student participation and interest in reading activities also jumped to 87.5%.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the appropriate implementation of narrative text in SMA 1 Paiton to improve students' writing skills. Classroom action research (CAR) with two cycles of action was used to achieve this goal. Each cycle consisted of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects were 27 students of grade XI in the academic year 2024/2025. The results showed that students improved in writing after using narrative text-based learning. With a significance value of p 0.05, the average score increased from 52.96 to 87.04. Students also showed increased motivation and confidence in writing, and became better able to organize ideas and use narrative text structures correctly. Therefore, it can be concluded that narrative text learning is proven to be effective in improving students' English writing skills in high school.

Abstract

By implementing a learning strategy that emphasizes descriptive texts in class X at SMAN 1 Paiton, this study aims to improve students' skill English grammar. The two-cycle approach used in this study, namely Classroom Action Research, includes planning, implementing actions, observing, and reflecting in each cycle. Using descriptive techniques with quantitative and qualitative approaches, the data collected through writing tests, observations, interviews, and documentation were analyzed. The results of the study showed a significant improvement in students' language skills. With an increase in authorization from 31.4% to 91.4%, the average student score increased from 65.8 in the pre-cycle to 83.4 in Cycle II. Students became more active and reflective in their writing projects, thereby developing a more positive attitude towards learning. Thus, the application of descriptive text learning has proven to be quite successful in improving students' contextual and sustainable language competence.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the vocabulary of grade XI Soshum-2 students at SMA Negeri 1 Paiton through a literature-based learning approach. This study uses the classroom action research (CAR) method, based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which consists of four cycles: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 23 students in class XI Soshum-2 with data collection instruments in the form of vocabulary tests, classroom observations, and documentation. In this cycle, the literature-based learning strategy was implemented through English songs, resulting in an increase in the average vocabulary score from 77,17 to 94,78. The percentage of students who achieved the minimum passing grade (KKM) was 60,87%. The observation results showed an increase in student motivation and engagement in learning. This study concludes that literature-based learning is effective in improving students' vocabulary, and it recommends integrating it continuously into the English curriculum.

Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve the English speaking skills of 11th grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Paiton through the use of English songs as an authentic learning medium. The research was conducted in two cycles using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which includes the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through speaking tests, observation sheets, and documentation, then analyzed descriptively, quantitatively, and qualitatively. The results showed a significant improvement in students' speaking skills, as indicated by an increase in the average score from 65.6 on the pre-test to 82.2 on the post-test, as well as an increase in the learning completeness rate from 29.4% to 88.2%. The aspects of fluency, pronunciation, and vocabulary experienced the highest improvement. In addition, students showed greater confidence and more active participation through shadowing and lyric discussion activities. Thus, the use of English songs proved to be an effective learning medium for improving the speaking skills of high school students.Keywords: speaking ability, music literacy, English songs, classroom action research.
