Abstract

Schools in tsunami-prone areas have a very high-level disaster vulnerability. Disaster mitigation must be given adequately by the school to students in improving their preparedness, for instance in the infrastructure aspect, such as building disaster friendly schools which are completed by provision signs for disaster evacuation routes, as well as providing early warning system. Furthermore, the skill of human resources in facing disaster situation needs to be involved. In the school environment, the majority of the population was dominated by the students. It will be at high risk if the students are not aware of the tsunami disaster. Teacher factors significantly influence the increase in tsunami preparedness of students. This study explored the role of the teacher in the students' preparedness in dealing with the tsunami disaster. The research used the quantitative descriptive method. Primary and secondary data were collected using a survey. The population of the study was the teachers and the elementary, secondary, upper secondary school students in the Pangandaran District. Students' preparedness were examined by Carter, LIPI, and UNESCO parameter. Results of the research showed that the students’ preparedness score is 8,16 (highly significant) for elementary school, 5,86 (less significant) and 5,52 (less significant) consecutively for secondary and upper secondary school. The high score role of an elementary school teacher of the preparedness of the students caused by the personal closeness between teachers and students so that the student comprehend the learning materials effectively. Nevertheless, the lack of teacher attention personally to students and the lack of teacher understanding about disaster awareness, especially tsunami, were considered as the main factors that cause low students’ scores. Providing the training to the teacher about disaster preparedness, which held by the local government (Education Department), is one of the alternatives that we can do to equip the students in improving their preparedness to the tsunami.

Abstract

Disasters are a threat to all people living in Indonesia, as a logical consequence of Indonesia's geological conditions. Almost all regions of Indonesia have the potential for disasters. Especially for the West Java Province, especially the Regency on the south coast which has various kinds of disaster threats, such as Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Landslides, and even Fires. Likewise in Tasikmalaya Regency, in this case the Naga traditional village community. The touch of local wisdom in disaster mitigation is very interesting to learn in Kampung Naga. The research method uses a descriptive method with a field survey technique (Field Study). The results showed that, for earthquake disasters, it was minimized by the use of the dominant house material from bamboo and consuming the system of houses on stilts to dampen vibrations. In the case of landslides, on sloping land, this is handled by using stone terraces. As for the fire disaster, using a method of using a different room woven system for each room to minimize the appearance of fire so that it can be detected from outside the house.

Abstract

Drought is a type of hydrometeorological disaster that is becoming increasingly frequent and severe due to global climate change. This phenomenon has a significant impact on food security, access to clean water, as well as social and economic stability, especially in highly vulnerable areas such as West Nusa Tenggara and temperate countries like Germany. This study aims to examine the characteristics of drought and its consequences in these two regions, review the effectiveness of mitigation and recovery measures that have been implemented, and assess the potential application of long-term risk management that can adapt to climate change. The method used is a systematic literature review by identifying, selecting, and synthesizing scientific articles and reports from relevant official institutions. From the analysis conducted, it was found that NTB faces chronic drought problems with limited water infrastructure and highly vulnerable social conditions, whereas Germany experiences severe drought due to prolonged rainfall shortages, impacting the agriculture, energy, and water resource sectors. Mitigation efforts in NTB still largely focus on emergency response and basic infrastructure development, while Germany implements a more comprehensive approach based on data and nature-based solutions. The opportunity to implement long-term risk management is considered highly dependent on the ability to integrate monitoring systems, strengthen local institutions, and adopt sustainable solutions. These findings emphasize the importance of an adaptive approach that balances structural interventions, preparedness, and inclusive water management.
