Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Ujungpangkah District, Gresik Regency, is one of the strategic coastal areas in East Java with significant potential for capture fisheries. However, fishermen's productivity still faces various obstacles, including limited fishing gear that complies with the principles of sustainability and fishermen's low understanding of maritime and fisheries laws and regulations. This community service program was implemented on March 1, 2018, through a collaboration between the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) for the 2014–2019 period, and the Gresik Regency Fisheries Office, targeting 150 fishermen in Ujungpangkah District. The activity aims to increase catch productivity by providing assistance with environmentally friendly fishing gear while strengthening fishermen's legal knowledge regarding the use of fishing gear that does not damage the marine ecosystem. Implementation methods include socialization, lectures, interactive discussions, distribution of fishing gear, and participatory evaluation. The results of the activity show an increase in fishermen's understanding of the importance of environmentally friendly fishing gear, increased access to legal and productive fishing equipment, and the emergence of hopes for increasing catches without damaging fishery resources. The main obstacles were the absence of several fishing groups and protests from fishermen who had not yet received assistance. Overall, the program had a positive impact on strengthening the fishing economy and conserving the coastal environment.

Abstract

The Pig-nosed turtle (Carettochelys insculpta) is a unique freshwater turtle species naturally distributed in southern Papua and Papua New Guinea. The presence of this species outside its natural habitat is a significant concern in conservation and invasive biology studies. This article aims to examine the presence of Carettochelys insculpta in the Jatiluhur Reservoir, Purwakarta, West Java, and the possible ecological impacts it may have on native species in the reservoir. Discovery data was obtained from an accidental catch by fishermen on December 14, 2025, using fishing nets in the Jatiluhur Reservoir. The research method used a desk study with data sources derived from scientific articles indexed by Google Scholar, online articles, and social media documentation on Facebook and TikTok related to the discovery of the species. Due to the lack of direct morphometric data, an estimation approach was carried out using Artificial Intelligence (AI) Gemini by analyzing the proportion of human hand size to the pig-nosed turtle's body in documentation photos. The analysis results showed that the individuals found had a Carapace Curve Length (CL) of approximately 45–55 cm, a Carapace Curve Width (CW) of approximately 35–45 cm, and a carapace diameter of approximately 40 cm, with an estimated total body length of 60–70 cm. These measurements indicate that the individuals were mature but had not yet reached the maximum size of the species. The presence of this species in the Jatiluhur Reservoir is suspected to be related to releases from the exotic or pet trade. The presence of C. insculpta has the potential to affect ecosystem balance through competition for space and food resources with local species, although further research is needed to determine the population status and its ecological impacts.

Abstract

Hatchery of tiger grouper (Epinephelus fuscogutattus) household scale is one of the contributors to the increase in national grouper seed production. with the hatchery of household-scale grouper, the demand for grouper seed can be fulfilled as well as improving the community's economy. This study aims to determine the hatchery of household-scale tiger grouper which includes the provision of feed, hatching eggs, water quality management, harvesting, Hatching Rate (HR) and Survival Rate (SR). Data collection methods by interview, observation and active participation. Observation results related to seeding began with the provision of natural food to harvest the seeds measuring 2.7-3 cm. Hatching Rate (HR) reaches 80% and Survival Rate (SR) reaches 20%. The seeds produced were 120,000 per cycle. Seed yields are 24,000 per cycle. Abstract
