Abstract

Abstract

This study examines how three Padang-based influencersBintang Fakhirin, Ni Mida (Ratu Deslim), and Wahyu Hidayat negotiate self-disclosure within a collectivist cultural context. Using a phenomenological approach, in-depth interviews conducted in May 2024 revealed four key themes: forms of disclosure, motivations, perceived impacts, and challenges. Findings show that disclosure is driven by emotional needs, extroverted personalities, and economic opportunities, but constrained by communal judgment, linguistic stigmatization, and phone dependence. These practices reflect a negotiation between authenticity and cultural expectations, aligning with Altman and Taylor’s Social Penetration Theory, DeVito’s disclosure dimensions, and Goffman’s dramaturgical model. By situating self-disclosure within the Minangkabau cultural setting, the study highlights how collectivist values and the principle of adat basandi syarak, syarak basandi Kitabullah shape digital practices. Practically, it underscores the importance of culturally sensitive strategies, digital literacy, and psychosocial support.

Abstract

Juvenile delinquency is a complex issue driven by interactions between individual, social, and structural factors. This systematic literature review uses the PRISMA 2020 guidelines to analyze empirical evidence on risk and protective factors for adolescent delinquency published between 2000 and 2024. From an initial search of 832 records in Scopus, we selected 15 peer-reviewed studies for narrative synthesis. The results indicate that delinquency stems from problems across multiple ecological levels. The most consistent risk factors identified were family dysfunction, specifically maltreatment, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and parental incarceration, and association with delinquent peers. Conversely, protective factors function as active buffers rather than just the absence of risk. Key elements that significantly reduce delinquency include positive parenting, secure parent–child attachment, school connectedness, self-regulation, empathy, and future academic aspirations. The review highlights early to mid-adolescence as a critical window for intervention and suggests that prevention strategies should focus on building resilience through family and school support.

Abstract

Cyber aggression has become a growing concern in digital spaces due to its negative impact on mental health, as repeated exposure to aggressive online interactions can contribute to anxiety, depression, emotional distress, and low self-esteem. Unlike face-to-face communication, cyber aggression often occurs publicly and continuously, increasing psychological pressure on individuals involved. Social media platforms such as X provide interactive environments where anonymity, rapid information exchange, and polarized discussions may encourage verbal aggression. This study aims to identify patterns of verbal aggression on the social media platform X in Indonesia by examining its causes, emotional responses, and behavioral motives. Using a qualitative approach with thematic analysis, data were collected from 391 active users of the platform. These factors interact with users' emotional states, leading to impulsive and hostile responses. Many perpetrators reported experiencing a sense of emotional relief after engaging in verbal aggression, indicating that such behavior may function as a maladaptive coping strategy for emotional regulation. Verbal aggression was primarily motivated by emotional expression and social criticism. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening digital literacy and ethical communication to foster healthier and more respectful online interactions.

Abstract

In Minangkabau’s matrilineal society, fathers are often perceived as less central, yet adolescents’ interpretations of paternal involvement may illuminate differences in their psychological development. This study aimed to describe how adolescents construe fathers’ involvement across domains and how it is perceived to shape psychological development. Seventy Minangkabau adolescents (31 male, 39 female; aged 12–20) were recruited via purposive sampling; all co-resided with their biological father and mother in West Sumatra. Data were collected using a researcher-developed open-ended questionnaire, analyzed through a six-phase thematic analysis, and verified via participant confirmation. Findings revealed three overarching domains: (1) fathers’ involvement in day-to-day caregiving (positive patterns;academic and religious guidance, practical support, discipline and character values, quality time and humor; negative/minimal patterns; fathers substituting for mothers), (2) paternal responses when adolescents experience stress (listening and open communication, offering advice and solutions, motivating presence, or emotional absence), and (3) fathers’ roles in decision-making (advisor and companion, support and trust, boundary setting, facilitation of freedom and autonomy, role modeling, and minimal influence). Overall, a blend of warmth, structure, and meaningful adolescent voice from fathers was perceived to strengthen self-regulation, self-confidence, school connectedness, and social competence; conversely, limited presence, permissive or authoritarian patterns, and emotional absence were linked to more fragile adjustment. These results imply that culturally grounded fathering practices combining guidance, clear limits, and adolescent participation are promising levers for family interventions in the Minangkabau context.

Abstract

Interparental conflict frequently extends beyond the couple, escalating into a systemic dysfunction that directly involves the child, a clinical phenomenon known as triangulation. Despite widespread recognition of its harmful impact, the empirical understanding of which specific conflict types and underlying mechanisms actually draw children into these disputes remains fragmented. Consequently, this Systematic Literature Review (SLR) aims to synthesize how different characteristics of interparental conflict relate to variations in child triangulation, alongside the psychological and structural mechanisms that drive this shift. Following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, we reviewed 20 primary empirical studies (published between 2015 and 2025) from Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, and APA PsycINFO, evaluating their methodological quality using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT). The narrative synthesis challenges the assumption of a simple, linear relationship between conflict severity and child involvement. Instead, triangulation is highly multidimensional and is most strongly triggered by child-related disputes, open hostility, covert tension, and coparenting breakdowns. The transition from a dyadic conflict to triangulation operates through a continuous feedback loop of individual factors (e.g., self-blaming attributions, threat appraisals, emotion dysregulation) and systemic vulnerabilities (e.g., blurred intergenerational boundaries and detouring). This complex interaction ultimately creates a deeply unhealthy but stable family adaptation termed "illusory harmony." These findings confirm that clinical interventions must go beyond traditional dyadic conflict resolution by actively restructuring healthy family boundaries and helping children develop better emotion regulation skills.
