Abstract

There is complexity in the impact of education sector investment and international trade aspects, on economic growth among the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries. This research aims to examine and analyze the influence of education investment, food exports and imports, and exchange rates on economic growth in five member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The OIC member countries were determined as research objects because they have similarities in determining halal food as a condition for permitted food imports. The novelty of this research offers a fresh approach by thoroughly investigating these complex relationships, aiming to unveil their combined effects on economic growth, thus providing novel insights for decision-makers. The data used is a combination of time series data and cross-site data so testing begins with a stationary test and a cointegration test. The data span used includes 12 years. The results show that all the data used is stationary at the first difference level, and together or in groups all variables are cointegrated in the long term. Testing the hypothesis using the multiple linear regression method, it was found that education investment and exports had a positive effect on economic growth while imports and the exchange rate had a negative effect. The ability of these four variables to explain variations in changes in economic growth in the five OIC member countries is 72 percent and 28 percent is explained by other variables outside the model. The results of this research prove that the higher our dependence on food imported from abroad will reduce economic growth and conversely, if food exports can be increased it will increase the country's economic growth. This research has implications for international trade policy in increasing the economic growth of the five OIC member countries.

Abstract

Abstract

The economic growth of a region is reflected in GDP and GRDP. It is important to achieve economic growth and economic equality so that prosperity increases evenly. Economic inequality can cause social problems and risk regional disintegration. Even though high economic growth can occur, it does not always mean that people's welfare increases automatically, especially for the poor. Differences in development and infrastructure between regions also affect people's income. This research aims to examine the economic situation, regional inequality and poverty levels in Kalimantan Province. It is hoped that the results of this research will provide useful information for local governments in future policy making. This research is descriptive in nature and uses a qualitative approach to understand social phenomena through secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and related regional institutions. Economic growth in Kalimantan province experienced fluctuations during the 2014-2023 period. Although there are annual variations, in general there is an upward trend after 2020. The Williamson Index in Kalimantan province experienced small variations from year to year during the 2014-2023 period. The poverty level in Kalimantan province tends to vary from year to year during the 2014-2023 period.

Abstract

Despite a general decline in crime rates in Indonesia, the rising trends in poverty, unemployment, and income inequality in several provinces raise concerns about their potential to incite criminal behavior and escalate crime rates. This study aims to empirically examine the effects of poverty, unemployment, education, and income inequality on crime rates in Indonesia. Utilizing secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the study analyzes a panel dataset comprising 32 provinces over five years through panel data regression techniques. The findings reveal that poverty and unemployment have a significant and positive impact on crime rates, highlighting their critical roles as socioeconomic determinants of criminal activity. In contrast, education levels and income inequality do not exhibit significant effects on crime rates in the Indonesian context. Theoretically, these findings underscore the relevance of economic and social strain theories, which suggest that socioeconomic hardships contribute to deviant behavior as individuals seek alternative means to meet unmet needs. Practically, the study emphasizes the need for targeted poverty alleviation programs and effective unemployment reduction strategies to mitigate crime rates. Policymakers should focus on creating sustainable economic opportunities and strengthening social safety nets in vulnerable regions. This research contributes to the broader discourse on crime prevention by providing insights into the socioeconomic drivers of crime in a developing country context, guiding future strategies to foster social stability and security.

Abstract

Every country aims to increase the level of happiness in the community by building economic cooperation to strengthen the economy and minimize the occurrence of excessive global crises. One of the collaborations formed is the Group of Twenty (G-20). Countries that are members of the G20 represent the political and economic might of the world, and their members account for more than half of the world's population. Despite being a sizable contributor to the global economy, low happiness levels are still a problem experienced by some G20 member countries. This research evaluates and assesses the impact of income inequality, perceived corruption, gender equality, and technology on happiness in G20 countries. Panel data is secondary data from 18 G20 member countries from 2018 to 2022. This research method uses multiple linear regression processed with Eviews 10. The results show that the perception of corruption partially has a positive and significant effect. At the same time, there is no significant effect of income inequality, gender equality, and technology on happiness in G20 countries. Based on the results of this study, the government is expected to be firmly committed to eradicating corruption, which can improve people's perceptions of corruption. Furthermore, the government also needs to reduce the gap or inequality to achieve happiness and welfare inclusively for all levels of society, not only in terms of the economy. The government must also pay attention to gender equality and innovate in technology.

Abstract

Serikin Market, located on the border of Malaysia and Indonesia, is a bustling cross-border trading center with informal sector players. The market offers great opportunities for informal businesses to increase their income and expand their business, thanks to the high shopping interest of local people and tourists who are interested in Indonesian products. However, there are various challenges that informal traders face, such as limited infrastructure and supporting facilities. This study aims to identify and analyze the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the informal sector involved in trading at Serikin Market from Indonesia. As well as, determining the right strategy to optimize the informal sector involved in trading in Serikin Market. The research method used is descriptive qualitative analysis. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and library studies. The technique used is phenomenological analysis. The results showed that before and after the inauguration of the Jagoi Babang Cross Border Post did not change the income earned, only changes in regulation and access. Serikin Market has the power to attract traders and consumers from various countries. The strategic location, uniqueness of local products, competitive prices, and cultural appeal make Serikin Market an ideal place for traders to sell their products. It can provide great opportunities for traders, especially since many consumers from Malaysia are interested in Indonesian products, so the traders can earn a large profit. However, the main drawback faced is the lack of good market management and also faces challenges, such as limited infrastructure. The market is often not equipped with adequate facilities such as a large parking area, proper selling space, and clean public toilets.

Abstract

The development of investment and export in Indonesia as well as money supply shows an increase, while the inflation rate shows a decline. Yet, this is not always followed by the increase of economic growth. This study aims to explain the relationship between investment, export, money supply and inflation with the economic growth in Indonesia. It used time-series data from the first quarter in 2001 to the fourth quarter in 2014 and were analyzed using multiple regression models with Error Correction Model (ECM) and classical assumptions. It showed that in short-run, there are significant effects of investment and export on economic growth while money supply and inflation do not have significant effects. This study also found that in in long-run, there are significant effects of investment, export, money supply and inflation on the economic growth in Indonesia. Bank Indonesia should apply a tight money policy consistently to achieve the long-run inflation target

Abstract

Corruption poses a significant challenge in numerous countries, impacting foreign investment, including those within the ASEAN Plus Three (APT) region. This study aims to ascertain the influence of corruption and other factors—specifically, the exchange rate, political stability, and economic growth—on the appeal of foreign direct investment in APT countries. The research employs the Error Correction Model (ECM) for statistical testing to analyze both short- and long-term effects. The findings indicate that corruption and exchange rate fluctuations do not exert a significant impact on foreign investment inflows into APT countries, regardless of the time horizon. In the short term, a surge in corruption cases tends to diminish the interest of potential foreign direct investors. However, over the long term, foreign investors anticipate that APT countries will adopt more stringent measures to combat corruption, thus fostering a corruption-free environment. This expectation is bolstered by the presence of political stability and robust economic growth in APT countries, which stand as pivotal considerations for foreign direct investment. Therefore, APT countries, particularly Indonesia, ought to establish transparent investment guidelines, root out corruption, ensure political stability, maintain exchange rate stability, and prioritize policies aimed at stimulating economic growth in order to entice foreign investment.
