Abstract

This study aims to develop English writing skills through the use of short stories for grade XI students of SMA N Amanuban Timur. Writing in English is an important skill that students must master, both for academic purposes and daily life. However, many students face difficulties in organizing ideas in a structured manner and mastering the use of appropriate vocabulary and grammar. Therefore, the use of short stories as a learning method is an effective and interesting solution to improve writing skills. This method involves several stages, starting from analyzing the structure of short stories, selecting themes that match students' interests, to the process of writing stories. In addition, peer review or peer feedback sessions are conducted to provide constructive feedback, which allows students to improve and develop their writing. The results of this study showed that the short story approach successfully improved students' writing skills, enriched their vocabulary, and increased their confidence in speaking and writing in English. Thus, this method can be an effective alternative in learning English at the high school level.

Abstract

Masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah Makna dan Nilai yang terkandung dalam tuturan upacara adat Mulha’i Duik pada masyarakat suku Rote Termanu Desa Pukdale Kecamatan Kupang Timur Kabupaten Kupang. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan makna dan nila tuturan dalam upacara adat Mulha’i Duik pada masyarakat suku Rote Termanu Desa Pukdale Kecamatan Kupang Timur Kabupaten Kupang. Manfaat yang diharapkan dalam penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dan memahami juga sebagai sumbangan referensi untuk acuan (literatur) bagi peneliti selanjutnya. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah teori linguistik kebudayaan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil yang diperoleh terkait makna yang terkandung dalam upacara adat Mulha’i Duik adalah Makna sejarah, kekeluargaan, kesedihan, Kebersamaan, Simbolis. Sedangkan nilai yang terdapat nilai budaya, gotong royong, religious, sosiologis, edukatif. The problem in this study is the meaning and value contained in the speech of the Mulha'i Duik traditional ceremony in the Rote Termanu tribe community of Pukdale Village, East Kupang District, Kupang Regency. The purpose of this study is to describe the meaning and value of speech in the Mulha'i Duik traditional ceremony in the Rote Termanu tribe community of Pukdale Village, East Kupang District, Kupang Regency. The expected benefits of this study are to know and understand as well as a contribution of references for references (literature) for further researchers. The theory used in the study is the theory of cultural linguistics. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The results obtained related to the meaning contained in the Mulha'i Duik traditional ceremony are the meaning of history, kinship, sadness, togetherness, symbolic. While the values contained are cultural values, mutual cooperation, religious, sociological, educational.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan siswa menulis argumentasi dengan model pembelajaran berbasis masalah pada siswa kelas IX F SMP Negeri 1 Kota Kupang Tahun Pelajaran 2024/2025. Manfaat dalam penelitian ini adalah, bagi guru: peneliti memberikan wawasan baru bagi guru tentang bagaimana merancang pembelajaran berbasis masalah. Bagi siswa: siswa dapat mengembangkan kemampuan menulis argumentasi yang baik. Bagi peneliti: peneliti dapat memberikan kontribusi bagi pengembangan pengetahuan khususnya dalam bidang pendidikan bahasa. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa siswa SMP Negeri 1 Kota Kupang cukup terampil dalam kemampuan menulis argumentasi. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data dan menurut standar pengukuran dalam hasil belajar siswa SMP Negeri 1 Kota Kupang diketahui bahwa tingkat kemampuan dalam menulis argumantasi dikategorikan cukup terampil dengan memperoleh nilai rata-rata 68,75. This study aims to describe students' ability to write arguments with a problem-based learning model for class IX F students of SMP Negeri 1 Kota Kupang in the 2024/2025 Academic Year. The benefits of this study are, for teachers: researchers provide new insights for teachers on how to design problem-based learning. For students: students can develop good argumentative writing skills. For researchers: researchers can contribute to the development of knowledge, especially in the field of language education. The results of the study showed that students of SMP Negeri 1 Kota Kupang were quite skilled in their ability to write arguments. Based on the results of data analysis and according to the measurement standards in the learning outcomes of students of SMP Negeri 1 Kota Kupang, it is known that the level of ability in writing arguments is categorized as quite skilled with an average score of 68.75.

Abstract

Speech Value in The Stage of Marriage Custom of The Suelain Village Community, Lobalain Districts Rote Ndao Regency ABSTRAKPerkawinan merupakan suatu ikatan sosial/perjanjian hukum, baik secara adat maupun Agama bagi seorang laki-laki dan seorang perempuan untuk hidup berumah tangga. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah memaparkan dan mendeskripsikan nilai budaya yang tergurat dalam tuturan adat perkawinan masyarakat Desa Suelain Kecamatan Lobalain Kabupaten Rote-Ndao. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Linguistik Antropologi. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah  metode deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah Tokoh-tokoh adat masyarakat Suelain Kecamatan Lobalain Kabupaten Rote Ndao. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik (1) observasi; (2) wawancara; (3) perekaman dan pencatatan. Sementara pengolahan datanya dilakukan melalui (a) pengaksaran, (b) terjemahan, (c) analisis, dan (d) simpulan. Hasil penelitian dan pembahasan menunjukkan bahwa perkawinan adat masyarakat Desa Suelain Kecamatan Lobalain Kabupaten Rote-Ndao terdiri atas 7 tahap yaitu : (1) Tahap peminangan disebut Hengga Mbotik; (2) Tahap perundingan belis; (3) Tahap pengumpulan belis (Tu’u belis); (4) Tahap penyerahan belis; (5) Tahap terang kampung disebut Nggani Eik’; (6)Tahap pengukuhan adat disebut Natudu sasao; dan (7) Tahap pengantaran mempelai perempuan diantara ke rumah mempelai laki-laki disebut Dode. Dari ketujuh tahap tuturan adat perkawinan ini, memiliki (1) Nilai Religius; (2)  Nilai kebersamaan; dan (3) Nilai Etika.Kata kunci: Masyarakat, Perkawinan, Tuturan,  Nilai ABSTRACTMarriage is a social bond/legal agreement, both according to custom and religion for a man and a woman to live as a household. The purpose of this research is to explain and describe the cultural values that are inscribed in the custom marriage speech of the people of Suelain Village, Lobalain District, Rote-Ndao Regency. This study uses the theory of Anthropological Linguistics. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The data sources in this study were from traditional leaders of the Suelain community, Lobalain District, Rote Ndao Regency. Collecting data in this study used techniques (1) Observation; (2) Interview; (3) Recording and recording. While processing the data is done through (a) Recognizing, (b) Translation, (c) Analysis, and (d) Conclusion. The results of the research and discussion show that the custom marriage of the people of Suelain Village, Lobalain District, Rote-Ndao Regency consists of 7 stages, namely: (1) The proposal stage is called Hengga Mbotik; (2) Purchase negotiation stage; (3) Belis collection stage (Tu'u belis); (4) Purchase submission stage; (5) The bright stage of the village is called Nggani Eik'; (6) The customary confirmation stage is called Natudu sasao; and (7) The stage of delivering the bride to the groom's house is called Dode. Of the seven stages of traditional marriage speech, it has (1) religious values; (2) Togetherness values; and (3) Ethical Values. Keyword: Society, Marriage, Speech Values

Abstract

Tonis Ta'aiftam Tafafat is one of the traditional marriage stages of the Pana Village community, Kolbano Sub district, South Central Timor Regency, to deliver the bride to the bridegroom's parents, who have married as customarily, religiously, and governmentally. The purpose of this research is to describe and explain the meaning contained in Tonis Ta'aiftam Tafafat in the Pana Village Community, Kolbano District, South Central Timor Regency. Referring to the problems raised in this study, the theory used is Hermeneutics theory. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The results of the research and discussion show that in Tonis Ta'aiftam Tafafat in the Pana Village Community, Kolbano Sub district, South Central Timor Regency, there are (1) Meaning of Request; (2) Meaning of Togetherness; and (3) Religious Meaning.
