Abstract

Alcohol consumption is the third largest risk factor in the world as a cause of disease and disability. There are various types of diseases caused by alcohol consumption, one of which is impaired liver function. Liver function disorders can be indicated by an increase in enzyme activity, one of which is the ALT enzyme. The purpose of this study was to describe the activity of the ALT enzyme in alcoholic beverage consumers. Examination of blood samples has been carried out on alcoholic drink consumers in the "X" community. The type of research conducted is a descriptive study and the method used in the ALT examination is enzimatyc kinetics IFCC. Process of written questionnaire, Informed Consent, as well as examination in the Laboratory. Examination of ALT enzyme activity was carried out at the FITKES UNJANI Laboratory using the Mindray BA-88A tool. This study used 30 samples from alcoholic drink consumers in the "X" community, the results obtained from the examination of ALT enzyme activity in alcoholic beverage consumers were then carried out data management. The results of the examination of 30 samples of alcoholic drinkers whose blood samples were taken 1 day after consuming alcoholic beverages showed abnormal ALT activity examination results in 2 people (7%) and normal results in 28 people (93%)

Abstract

Pandemi Covid 19 di Indonesia semakin meningkat, tenaga kesehatan, masyarakat dan pengurus Dewan Kemakmuran Mesjid (DKM) berperan dalam membantu pemulasaran jenazah. Prodi Teknologi Laboratorium Medis D-3 memfasilitasi pelaksanaan webinar pemulasaran jenazah Covid-19 untuk wilayah cimahi dan Kabupaten Bandung. Tahapan pelaksanaan terdiri dari identifikasi permasalahan pandemi Covid-19, menyusun dan mengkordinasikan kegiatan webinar, penyebaran informasi pendaftaran dan kegiatan, pelaksanaan kegiatan webinar, sesi diskusi, dan evaluasi. Tingkat pengetahuan masyarakat terhadap pemulasaran jenazah Covid-19 sebanyak 43% tidak mengetahui. Berdasarkan hasil kuesioner 96% menyatakan sangat bermanfaat dan penilaian keseluruhan kegiatan adalah 75% sangat sesuai. Di akhir acara perwakilan DKM diberikan Gown untuk membantu proses pemulasaran jenazah Covid-19.

Abstract

Background: Cigarette smoke consists of the main smoke (main stream) which contains 25% levels of hazardous materials and side streams which contain 75% levels of hazardous materials. Cigarette smoke contains more than 4000 harmful chemicals, including nicotine, tar, lead, carbon monoxide (CO) and various other free radicals which are carcinogenic. Each puff of cigarette smoke contains 1015 oxidative free radicals which are the main source of oxidative stress which has the potential as a mediator of endothelial dysfunction, increased blood thrombogeneity, and inflammatory response. Someone who smokes continuously for a long time is known to have a leukocyte count 20-25% higher than people who don't smoke. It is known that the entry of nicotine into the body causes leukocytosis due to the circulation of catecholamines due to the increase in hormones such as epinephrine and cortisol by nicotine. Objective: Seeing the leukocyte count values in smokers who consume green tea (Camellia sinensis L). Methods : This research method uses descriptive method. The research samples were taken from active smokers in the Unjani FITKES environment as many as 28 samples. Data collection was carried out by filling out questionnaires and consent forms. Then an examination of the leukocyte count was carried out including the value of eosinophils, segment neutrophils, stem neutrophils, lymphocytes and monocytes. Data analysis is reported as a percentage. Results : Based on the results of the study, the sig value for eosinophils was (0.191), segment neutrophils (0.876), stem neutrophils (0.080), lymphocytes (0.333) and monocytes were smaller (0.003). it can be concluded that green tea has an effect but not significant on the leukocyte count value to neutralize free radicals caused by smoking. Conclusion : Based on this study, it was concluded that from 28 samples of active smokers, it was found that 17 people (60.7%) had an increase in monocytes. It can be concluded that green tea has an effect, but not significantly, on the leukocyte count value to neutralize free radicals caused by smoking.

Abstract

Polymerase chain Reaction (PCR) is affected by many factors, one of which is DNA isolation. Proteinase K is a common protease used in DNA isolation. However, proteinase K is relatively expensive and limited. To date, many studies have been conducted to explore alternative protease from nature. Papain is an enzyme derived from papaya, which has been frequently observed, makes it promising as protease in DNA isolation. This study aims to evaluate potency of papain as cheaper alternative in DNA isolation from Salmonella thypi. This study consisted of four steps: papain extraction, characterization of papain, DNA isolation, and fliC detection with PCR. Papain was acquired with tapping method which resulted in approximately 1700 μl bp. Molecular weight of papain was 23,4 kDa, and its total concentration was 903 mg/mL. Whole genom of Salmonella thypi was successfully isolated using papain. The DNA concentration was also comparable to control. Nevertheless, the purity was low which is not recommended to be used in PCR.

Abstract

Background: Chronic renal failure is a condition of decreased kidney function, where the kidneys cannot function to remove metabolic waste in the body that accumulates in the blood. In the end stage of chronic renal failure, hemodialysis therapy is needed to remove the rest of the body's metabolism that accumulates in the blood and reduce the risk of death. The effectiveness of hemodialysis can be seen from the decrease in serum ureum levels in patients with chronic renal failure after hemodialysis therapy. Objective: to determine the description of serum ureum levels in pre and post hemodialysis chronic renal failure patients at X Hospital in 2022 and to get an overview of the effect of hemodialysis on ureum levels. Method: Descriptive Analytic with Cross sectional design. Data collection was done by using a questionnaire. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using the paired sample t-test statistical test. Results: The results obtained p value = 0.000 (α ≤ 0.05) means that there is a difference in ureum levels of chronic renal failure patients before and after undergoing hemodialysis. Conclusion: There was a decrease in serum ureum levels of chronic renal failure patients after hemodialysis therapy, but not all returned to normal values.

Abstract

Demam berdarah dengue (DBD) merupakan penyakit infeksi menular yang disebabkan virus dengue (arbovirus) yang ditularkan melalui gigitan nyamuk Aedes aegypti atau Aedes albopictus. DBD merupakan salah satu penyakit yang dapat memicu terjadinya kejadian luar biasa (KLB) bahkan wabah dan menyebabkan kematian. Kota Cimahi termasuk salah satu wilayah endemis DBD di Jawa Barat. Salah satu cara pengendalian nyamuk Aedes aegypti yang terbukti efektif adalah penggunaan perangkap telur (ovitrap). Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dilakukan di Balai RW 11, Kelurahan Leuwigajah, Kota Cimahi. Pemilihan lokasi ini mempertimbangkan bahwa Kelurahan Leuwigajah merupakan salah satu wilayah kasus DBD paling tinggi. Kegiatan dilakukan dari bulan Juli-Agustus 2024. Sasaran kegiatan ini adalah kader posyandu, ibu-ibu PKK, dan masyarakat setempat. Peserta yang mengikuti kegiatan berjumlah 30 orang. Kegiatan dilakukan dengan tahapan berturut-turut koordinasi dan izin pelaksanaan kegiatan kepada Ketua RW 11 Komplek Aneka Bakti Kelurahan Leuwigajah, pembuatan model ovitrap, pengisian pre-test sebelum kegiatan untuk mengukur pengetahuan, sosialisasi materi terkait DBD dan metode pengendalian DBD, pendampingan pembuatan ovitrap, dan evaluasi kegiatan. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi, terjadi peningkatan pengetahuan pada peserta yang mengikuti pelatihan. Hal ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kesadaran dan kemampuan warga dalam mengurangi kejadian DBD di RW 11 Kelurahan Leuwigajah. Kegiatan pembelajaran serupa juga perlu terus dilaksanakan oleh petugas kesehatan kepada kader dengan konsisten.

Abstract

Abstrak Candida albicans sebagai salah satu spesies jamur yang patogen, berperan terhadap 50% dari seluruh infeksi jamur akibat genus Candida. Isolasi DNA genom merupakan langkah awal dan sangat menentukan dalam studi genetika dan molekuler suatu spesies. Dinding sel Candida albicans terdiri dari dua lapis yang memungkinkan keberhasilan isolasi DNA genom rendah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan optimasi isolasi DNA genom Candida albicans dengan metode litium karbonat. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode eksperimental dengan menggunakan variasi konsentrasi litium karbonat. Hasil isolasi metode litium karbonat tidak ditemukan pita pada hasil elektroforesis, sedangkan hasil kemurnian isolat kurang dari 1.8 sebanyak 9 sampel dan 3 sampel memiliki kemurniaan yang baik yaitu 1.8-2. Konsentrasi DNA terendah yaitu 0.95mg/ml dan tertinggi yaitu 57.5mg/ml. Simpulan, litium karbonat dengan metode optimasi yang digunakan tidak dapat mengisolasi DNA genom Candida albicans, namun bisa dicoba dengan litium klorida sebagai alternatif untuk isolasi DNA.Kata Kunci : Litium karbonat, Optimasi, Isolasi, Candida albicans

Abstract

Increasing population growth, industrialization and the use of motorized vehicles are the factors causing the increase in air pollution. One of the particles contained in the exhaust gas emissions produced is lead. This study was aimed at the operators of the Public Fuel Filling Station in the Industrial Area of West Bandung District who are vulnerable to lead exposure from various pollutant sources. The purpose of this study was to describe the highest and lowest levels of lead accumulated in the hair of gas station operators. The method used is descriptive method. The research sample was taken from respondents who have worked as gas station operators for >1 year. The sample used was 19 gas station operators. Data was collected by filling out a questionnaire followed by laboratory examination. The results showed that 5 people had lead levels exceeding the normal threshold and 14 others had normal lead levels with an average of 13.52 g/g. The highest lead content in hair was 110.75 g/g and the lowest level was -3.50 g/g. With a threshold value of lead levels in hair that is <12 mg/g. The head of the gas station is advised to apply regulations on the use of appropriate PPE for gas station operators to minimize lead exposure. For further research, it is recommended to monitor lead (Pb) levels with different specimens.   Keywords      : Lead, Hair, Gas Station, Industry, Motor Vehicle
