Abstract

This study focuses on improving the mathematics learning achievement of fourth-grade students at UPT SD Negeri Percobaan Medan by implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method on the topic of surface area and volume of cylinders. The classroom action research conducted consisted of two cycles, each cycle involving planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The planning stage included the preparation of Lesson Plans (RPP) and teaching aids and evaluation tools by the researcher and teacher. The implementation of the action involved active learning with students playing a role in solving real-world problems. Observations were made to monitor student and teacher activities during the learning process. The reflection stage was used to analyze the results of observations and evaluations to formulate the next cycle. The results of the study showed a significant increase in student understanding and participation. In the first cycle, 57.24% of students achieved the minimum learning completeness criteria, and this percentage increased in the second cycle. In addition, students showed an increase in critical, analytical, and collaborative thinking skills. The implementation of PBL not only improved learning outcomes but also built student motivation and interest in learning mathematics. Based on these findings, the research recommends the widespread implementation of the PBL method as an effort to improve the quality of mathematics learning.

Abstract

The objective of this socialization was to socialize and give a comprehensive guide to the students in preventing bullying among students at school. As we know that nowadays bullying is always one of the hottest topics happening not only in Indonesia but also in some other schools in other countries in the world. Schools always try their best to draw up an official strategy in dealing with that problem. The participants in this program were the students of SMP Methodist Pematangsiantar located on Jalan Pane no. 34 in Pematangsiantar city. The socialization was held during the school environment introduction activities (PLS) on 15-16 July 2024. The results of this socialization were the students were given a comprehensive guide to prevent the bullying among students at school since the students were from different background, race, ethnics, and so on. The socialization process was initiated by analyzing the issue of bullying in schools, including its various forms, the effects on both victims and aggressors, the social influences that contribute to the problem, and the need for preventative measures tailored to the developmental needs of elementary, middle, and high school students. The discussion then delved into two theoretically grounded approaches for creating and implementing socialization strategies: the Pro-Social Developmental Guidance Model and the Social-Ecological Intervention Model. For each approach, strategies to evaluate, develop, implement, and sustain socialization strategies were identified, along with suggestions for integrating them into a cohesive approach. The guide also provides recommended antibullying strategies and programs, as well as an extensive list of references. This resource is designed to aid educators and others in their efforts to prevent bullying in schools.

Abstract

Gender roles are social instructions that attempt to differentiate the physical functions of men and women. The study aims to determine the role of gender in students' understanding and achievement in Bahasa Indonesian subjects. It was conducted at SDN Experiment Medan in 2024. The populations in this study were students in classes IV B and IV C of SDN Experiment Medan, totaling 107 students who were students in the fourth grade at SDN Experiment Medan in 2024. Sampling was used using the cluster random sampling technique, where samples are taken by randomly taking classes from the population and selecting the sample using the Slovin formula with 35 respondents. This type of research is quantitative, and the primary and secondary data is obtained through documentation studies and a list of questions using a Likert scale. The data was processed statistically using the SPSS 26 program, namely the T-test, F-test and determinant coefficient models. The research results show that gender roles, understanding and achievement influence Indonesian language learning outcomes and increase awareness and implementation of gender equality. Hopefully, it can contribute to developing curricula and education policies that are more inclusive and gender equal.

Abstract

This paper explores a school implemented twelve-week full-time internship subject designed to enhance preservice primary teachers first experiential placement at school. This subject is specifically focused on preparing preservice teachers through orientating them in key facets of a school, thereafter contextualizing the theory studied at University within classroom practice, and ultimately developing further competencies in their teaching and learning methodology. Three stages of activities were implemented by the authors to compile the activity report which includes the Preparation phase, Implementation and Evaluation phase. The program was designed to be cumulative in nature, building on the learning, practice and reflection developed in the previous week and learning activities will be scaffolded to incorporate both independent and collaborative and peer learning. The results showed that an implementation of an internship experience improved a sense of readiness of intern teachers, confidence in classroom management, and general teaching ability. Although well-supported as a critical experience, internships take considerable time and effort to organize and execute. Measures of quality support the need for an intense focus during the internship.

Abstract

The Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program is an innovative policy that provides learning flexibility through various practical activities, such as internships, humanitarian projects, and student exchanges. This policy offers significant benefits, but its implementation faces various challenges, especially regarding understanding, administration, and socialization. This study aims to analyze students' responses to MBKM, focusing on their satisfaction, understanding, and perception of the program's relevance to the world of work. This study uses a mixed methods approach that combines quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. The survey was conducted on 50 STKIP Pangeran Antasari students using a closed questionnaire with a Likert scale of 1-5. In addition, in-depth interviews were conducted to gain more detailed insights into students' experiences. The results showed that the satisfaction aspect had an average score of 4.1, with 82% positive responses, reflecting students' appreciation of the program's flexibility. The perception aspect was also high, with an average score of 4.0 and 80% positive responses, indicating the program's relevance to the needs of the world of work. However, the understanding aspect had a lower score, namely 3.8, with 24% negative responses, reflecting the lack of socialization and administrative complexity as the main challenges. In conclusion, MBKM significantly improves students' skills and relevance to the world of work. However, increasing socialization and simplifying the administrative process are necessary to optimize its implementation. This study provides strategic recommendations to improve the quality of MBKM implementation and ensure that students can optimally benefit from the benefits.

Abstract

For many years, English has been a core subject in the National Examination (UN) across all levels of education, including Elementary, Junior High, and Senior High School. In 2020, the Indonesian Ministry of Education introduced a new policy that replaced the UN with the National Assessment, which aims to evaluate students' proficiency in literacy and numeracy skills. However, notably, the government has excluded English from the subjects assessed at the Junior High School level. Consequently, this study seeks to explore the perceptions of students and teachers regarding the omission of the English subject from the National Assessment. The research involved 3 English teachers and 43 students from a junior high school in Tebing Tinggi, North Sumatra, who had previously participated in the new assessment format. Data were gathered through questionnaires and interviews. Specifically, the questionnaire data were analysed using descriptive statistics, while the interview data underwent analysis through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, as outlined by Miles, Huberman and Saldana (2014). The findings reveal that both students and teachers believe that English should be reinstated in the National Assessment. Additionally, the exclusion of English elicits contrasting sentiments; while the majority of students express dissatisfaction, the teachers predominantly feel a sense of relief. Ultimately, this article discusses several considerations concerning the implementation of the National Assessment.
