Abstract

At the village level, not all residents have knowledge of the content of budget documents as well as minimal attention and awareness to influence the budgeting process that takes place in their area. Based on these problems, this activity is oriented towards increasing budget literacy and the ability to trace expenditures for village development programs to certain community groups. Partners are trained in a targeted manner so that they can map the weaknesses and strengths of the village budgeting posture as seen in the current year's APBDesa document, both in its structure, format, and allocation as a basis for advocating for their priority needs to the Village Government and BPD so that they can be accommodated in the village planning-budgeting document in future. This activity has been implemented on February 21, 2021, at 08.00-11.00 PM in the Office Hall of Rabakodo Village, Woha District, Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province by involving twenty-five people from the vulnerable group which consisted of housewives, poor people, and young villagers. Pedagogical approaches used to teach budget literacy and expenditure tracing were the combination of direct instruction with enquiry-based learning, values clarification exercises, and participatory learning. This intervention was effective to increase the participants' knowledge and insight into the participatory budgeting process. Nevertheless, their attention and awareness to participating in the formulation of the village budget and monitoring its spending need to be forged further through several similar facilitations.

Abstract

This article delves into the strategic model of political lies, highlighting the intricate nature of this phenomenon within a political framework. Politicians use various strategies to formulate and disseminate lies, ranging from positive campaigns to negative ones. In positive campaigns, lies create a more favorable public perception of politicians, while in negative campaigns, these undermine opponents' standing, instill doubt, and undermine their credibility. Politicians derive immediate advantages from political lies, such as increased popularity and favorable public perceptions, but must also consider potential future costs, including forfeiting public trust and political ramifications. The strategies employed to deal with political lies vary significantly based on political circumstances. Politicians navigate the delicate balance between short-term political advantage and upholding ethical principles in the political sphere. Political lies can quickly garner support and enhance popularity, but they can also undermine public trust, diminish political credibility, and have enduring consequences for a politician's image. Addressing the issue of political lying requires a multifaceted approach that tackles its root causes while safeguarding democratic principles. Voters are crucial to maintaining accountability by exercising their right to vote and assuming control over the democratic process.

Abstract

This article discusses the dynamics of the practice of discriminating religious minorities in Oi Bura Village, Tambora District, Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province by dominant ethnic and/or religious adherents there. The practice of religious discrimination took the form of prejudice, different treatment, and political-economic restrictions experienced by Hindus as immigrants from Bali. The study case approach used in this study examined the relevance of two main aspects. These aspects include (1) the history of Oi Bura Village and the phenomenon of social segregation, and (2) the practice of discrimination against religious minorities in that village and the strategy of eliminating it through the iterative construction of social inclusion discourse. The process of separating the location of settlements between a group of people from Bali and other groups in Oi Bura Village reflects the continuity of the colonial heritage in the form of ethnic and religious residential segregation. As a result, this practice has triggered the emergence of social distances between community groups that have violated the principles of inclusion or social solidarity.

Abstract

This article deals with the implementation dynamics of the Village Law in a particular context that reflects the practice of developing participatory democracy. The effective administration of village development necessitates the cultivation of a collective ethos to foster a sense of kinship and cooperation and to promote the integration of social justice principles. In essence, effective governance necessitates accountability and participation, whereby the village government is responsible for transparently reporting and justifying all development operations or programs to residents under regulations outlined in the Village Law. Furthermore, residents should be actively engaged and involved in all phases of the development process. This study employed a descriptive approach and purposive sample technique to select key informants from government officials and citizens of Soriutu Village, located in the Manggelewa District of Dompu Regency, inside the West Nusa Tenggara Province. This essay examined the dynamics of actors' relationships in the management of development activities, specifically focusing on the leadership style of the village head from 2010 to 2016. The autocratic leadership style in Soriutu Village hinders the inclusion of inhabitants in all stages of village development governance, impeding the achievement of participatory democracy. This study's findings could enhance the theoretical understanding of leadership styles, community participation, transparency, informal participation preferences, participatory democracy, deliberative democracy critiques, and optimal village development management models.

Abstract

Political professionalisation is essential in developing more structured, efficient, and transparent political practices oriented toward the broader public interest. However, the process also faces challenges such as potential elitism and alienation of politicians from the general public. Using the Bibliometrix RStudio software, this review presents trends and patterns in political professionalisation research from 57 articles in the Scopus database, published between March 1997 and April 2024. There is a significant upward research trend, with 5.27% annual publication growth on the issue. The authors found four primary research streams in the study of political professionalisation, each integrating distinct thematic categories: (1) the nature of political professionalisation focuses on the fundamental characteristics of political professionalisation, including its core substance and the evolving profile of career politicians; (2) political professionalisation strategies and capacity examines the mechanisms through which professionalisation occurs, covering the legislative role, political communication and campaigns, and the institutionalisation of political parties; (3) the adoption and diffusion of political professionalisation highlights shifts in politician recruitment patterns and the impact of country size on professionalisation processes; (4) the implementation and impact of political professionalisation assess the consequences of these transformations, providing insights into their broader political implications. Several areas still require further investigation based on the 56 questions identified. By filling these gaps, future research will provide a more holistic view of political professionalisation in an increasingly complex and changing political context and enhance the effectiveness and inclusiveness of political systems worldwide.
