Abstract

This research was due to discover Analysis of Students’ Factors in Influencing Willingness to Communicate in the Implementation Curriculum 2013 in English At Eleventh Grade of MAS Yati Kamang. This under graduated thesis aimed to find out dominant factors that influence students’ Willingness to Communicate (WTC) in the Implementation Curriculum 2013 at Eleventh grade of MAS Yati Kamang in Academic Year 2021/2022. It had been done at Eleventh Grade of MAS Yati Kamang because some students appeared to be hesitant to share their ideas. The other students seem nervous and not confident when the teacher asked students to raise their hands. Some students saw to avoid when the teacher ask them to go in front of the classroom using English. When the teacher asked one of students why the students were afraid come to the front of the class, and the students answered because they were afraid of being laughed by their friends and the students were afraid of being wrong. Hence, the researcher research about what were Students’ Factors in Influencing Willingness to Communicate in the Implementation Curriculum 2013 in English At Eleventh Grade of MAS Yati Kamang. The design of this research was qualitative research design. The key informants of the research were the Eleventh Students of MAS Yati Kamang, that consist of was 18 students. This research used observation checklist and interview to collect the data. The item of observation checlist was the item of environmental, individual dimension, linguistic dimension that consist of 22 items. In analyzing the data, the researcher used data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. Based on the results of the research, the researcher find out of the main Students’ Factors in Influencing Willingness to Communicate in the Implementation Curriculum 2013 in English At Eleventh Grade of MAS Yati Kamang. So, it concluded factors that influence students’ willingness to communicate was individual dimension. Hence, it indicated that individual dimension was factor dominant that supported students’ willingness to communicate.

Abstract

Digital recordings that include programmes from radio, television, and interviews are called podcasts. It is regarded as a useful instrument for teaching English abilities. The goal of this study was to use English podcasts in the teaching and learning process to enhance students' English-speaking abilities. This study employed an experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group setup. The experimental class, IPA 1, and the control class, IPA 2, were both selected. The test was offered as an oral examination. Following that, statistical methods were used to compute the data from the before and post testing. The outcome demonstrated that the experimental class's post-test score wasgreater than both its pre-test and post-test resultsof control class. The results revealed that after undergoing treatments, the students' speaking skills performance in the experimental class significantly improved. Speaking abilities in the experimental class were significantly different from those in the control class. It was also moreeffective to teach speaking skills with English podcasts than without them. Thus, English podcast is a media that can be a viable alternative for teaching English, particularly speaking in EFL classrooms.

Abstract

Kosakata merupakan hal penting yang harus diperhatikan dalam belajar bahasa Inggris. Untuk menguasai bahasa Inggris, seorang pembelajar harus menguasai kosakata bahasa Inggris. Untuk memudahkan siswa dalam menguasai kosakata guru hendaknya mengajarkan kosakata secara kreatif dan juga menggunakan metode atau strategi yang tepat. Salah satu strategi yang dapat digunakan guru dalam mengajar kosakata adalah dengan menggunakan permainan. Permainan papan dapat meningkatkan penguasaan kosa kata karena siswa menjadi kreatif dalam membuat kalimat yang mengungkapkan gagasannya sendiri mengenai topik tertentu. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dan desain eksperimen semu; populasi penelitiannya adalah siswa kelas VIII MTsN 6 Agam. Sampel dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Siswa dari dua kelas, yaitu kelas eksperimen sebanyak 32 siswa dan kelas kontrol sebanyak 31 siswa, diberikan pre dan post test. Instrumen penelitian ini adalah tes kosakata dengan 25 pilihan ganda, mengisi celah dan pertanyaan benar/salah. Data dianalisis dengan SPSS 26. Hasil perhitungan post-test kelas eksperimen menunjukkan nilai rata-rata sebesar 88,44. Nilai tersebut melebihi nilai rata-rata kelompok kontrol yang sebesar 55,48. Simpangan baku masing-masing kelas kemudian dihitung. Dengan menggunakan uji Independent sample t-test, peneliti membandingkan post-test kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol dengan menggunakan rumus uji-t. Outputnya menunjukkan bahwa nilai Sig. (2-ekor) adalah 0,00 0,05. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa Ha dapat diterima. Ada perbedaan besar antara siswa yang diajar menggunakan permainan papan dan yang tidak. Hasil tersebut juga ditunjukkan dengan rata-rata skor post-test kelompok eksperimen (88,44) lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelompok kontrol (55,48). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang diajar dengan board game lebih unggul dibandingkan siswa yang tidak diajar. Permainan papan mempunyai pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap perolehan kosakata siswa kelas VIII MTsN 6 Agam.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kesulitan siswa dalam mempelajari kosakata. Masalah dalam penelitian ini. Pertama, kesulitan siswa dalam mempelajari kosakata. Kedua, penyebab kesulitan siswa dalam mempelajari kosakata. Penelitian kualitatif deskriptif digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Siswa kelas VII dan guru bahasa Inggris kelas VII di SMP Negeri 1 Bukittinggi menjadi informan dalam penelitian ini. Informan ini berasal dari sampel purposif yang dipilih dengan kriteria khusus untuk sumber data. Observasi daftar periksa, wawancara, dan dokumentasi adalah beberapa cara yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa para siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam pengucapan, penulisan, dan pengejaan kata, dan salah satu penyebab kesulitan mereka dalam penguasaan kosakata adalah variasi bentuk kata, atau infleksi. Tidak hanya itu, anak-anak juga masih kesulitan untuk memilih kata-kata dengan makna yang tepat dan kesulitan untuk menggunakannya dengan tepat dalam konteks. Selain itu, ketika mereka menemukan istilah idiomatik atau idiom, mereka terus kebingungan. Hal ini disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor yang menyebabkan siswa kesulitan dalam mempelajari kosakata (1) bentuk tulisan yang berbeda dengan bentuk lisan dalam bahasa Inggris, (2) jumlah kata yang harus dipelajari siswa sangat banyak, (3) terbatasnya sumber informasi mengenai kata, (4) kompleksitas pengetahuan kata. Mengetahui sebuah kata lebih dari sekedar mengetahui definisi kamus, (5) penyebab kurangnya pemahaman gramatikal kata, (6) pelafalan yang salah sering disebabkan oleh kurangnya kemiripan bunyi antara bahasa Inggris dan bahasa ibu siswa. Berdasarkan hasil data tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa sebagian besar siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam pengucapan kata, penulisan, dan pengejaan.

Abstract

Students' ability in reading, especially reading comprehension is still low. The first problem most of students have limited vocabulary in English, The second problem is that the teacher still uses the conventional strategies in class in reading comprehension. The third problem is students are not able to understand the words conveyed by the teacher orally in English. The purpose of this research was to find out student’s reading comprehension on student’s reading aloud activities at the XI Grade of MAN 1 Solok Selatan. Then, the researcher used descriptive quantitative method. In the collecting the data, test wich consisted of reading comprehension through students reading aloud activities. The data was analyzed by using T- Test Formula. Based on results shows that that 3 students get the score between 95 - 100. That 2 students get the score between 83 - 94. Then 13 students get score between 71 – 82. Then 5 students get the score between 59 – 70. Then 2 students get the score 47 – 58 and 7 students get the score between 35 – 46. In conclusion, the students reading comprehension on reading aloud activities at the XI.IPS.1 students at MAN 1 Solok Selatan was considered medium. Evidenced from when students reading aloud activities the students still confused, and not confidence.

Abstract

Vocabulary is a component of words with meaning and one of the most essential aspects of learning English. However, pupils are not taught vocabulary specifically in school. This results in a large number of students who lack fundamental vocabulary knowledge, despite the fact that vocabulary is one of the most essential components that students must comprehend in order to learn effectively in class. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the use of a guessing game has a significant impact on students' vocabulary achievement. This research employed a quantitative method and a quasi-experimental design; the research population was eighth-grade MTsN 6 Agam students. The sample was collected using a technique of purposive sampling. Students from the two classes, experimental class with 30 students and control class with 31 students, were given a pre- and post-test. This research instrument is a vocabulary test with 25 multiple-choice questions. The data were analyzed with SPSS 26. The calculated post-test result for the experimental class revealed a mean score of 89.47. It exceeds the mean score of the control group, which was 62.58. The standard deviation of each class is then calculated. Using Independent sample t-test, the researcher compared post-test experimental class and control class using the t-test formula. The output indicates that the value of Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.00 0.05. It indicates that Ha is acceptable. There is a substantial difference between students who are taught using Guessing game and those who are not. The result is also indicated by the fact that the mean post-test score of the experimental group (89.47) is higher than that of the control group (62.28). It indicates that students who are taught with Guessing game are superior to those who are not. Guessing game has a significant impact on the vocabulary attainment of eighth-grade MTsN 6 Agam students.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the application of the Think-Pair-Share model in improving students' communication skills at Pondok Pesantren Ashaabul Yamin. Although many schools apply this model, this study found some errors in its application in the school. One of them is that the teacher did not follow the correct sequence and did not have a significant impact on students' communication skills. The study used a qualitative descriptive method with the participation of 1 teacher and 31 students. Data was collected through observation with 11 activities that reflect the application of Think-Pair-Share to students' communication skills. The results showed that although the lesson plan described the application of Think-Pair-Share as a learning model, the teacher did not follow the plan. In addition, the teacher also did not adhere to the correct indicators, as seen from the observation data. However, at the sharing stage, the teacher succeeded in improving students' communication skills, especially when students shared the results of their group discussions in front of the class.

Abstract

Classroom management is multifaceted and is the concept of everything in the classroom. Classroom management is an action used by teachers to create an effective and good cooperation in interaction. Classroom management is also defined as the teacher's effort to form an effective environment for learning and teaching, while manner is the teacher ways treat their students in class.. This study focuses on classroom management and manner used by English teachers in seventh grade MTsN 3 Lima Puluh Kota. Therefore, this study is intended describe classroom management and manner used by teachers in teaching English. The researchers using descriptive qualitative with observation and interview as the instrument. Researchers examined two teachers who taught English in the seventh grade of MTsN 3 Lima Puluh Kota. Researchers describe the process of teachers managing classes and the manner of teachers in teaching. Researchers concluded that classroom management and teacher manner are quite good and use existing components in classroom management and manner, although there are some components that are not always implemented by teachers every time they teach in class.

Abstract

This research was purposed to discover students’ learning style and the differences of students’ grammar ability among the visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning style. The research followed comparative quantitative design. The participants of the research were 83 students of the sixth semester of English education department of State Islamic University of Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi. Data were collected by using questionnaire and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistical analysis of SPSS program after scoring the respondents’ questionnaire response by Likert scale point and calculating students’ final score of grammar subject. The results revealed the dominant style that students have are visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning style and visual style as the majority. The compared students’ grammar final score exhibited differences of students’ grammar ability. Students with kinesthetic learning style obtained the highest score (88,72) and also the lowest score (66) than visual and auditory learning style. The highest mean score was obtained by auditory learning style (82,33). In conclusion, students’ grammar ability was significantly different among the students with visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning style.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui nilai kesalehan sosial dalam film Karate Kid. Peneliti memilih film Karate Kid karena film tersebut mengangkat tema-tema yang berkaitan dengan bullying yang selalu membahagiakan siswa di sekolah. Hal ini relevan dengan masyarakat saat ini karena nilai-nilai kesalehan sosial yang diidentifikasi dalam film tersebut, seperti empati, kebaikan, dan rasa hormat terhadap orang lain, merupakan nilai-nilai penting yang dapat membantu memerangi intimidasi dan mendorong perilaku positif di sekolah dan masyarakat. Masalah penelitian adalah apa sajakah nilai-nilai kesalehan sosial dalam film Karate Kid?. Dalam penelitian tersebut, peneliti menggunakan penelitian kualitatif melalui pendekatan penelitian deskriptif. Checklist observasi digunakan sebagai instrumen untuk mendapatkan analisis mendalam tentang kesalehan sosial. Ada delapan indikator kesalehan sosial, yaitu: cinta dan perhatian, berbuat baik, hormat, keadilan, persaudaraan, keberanian membela kebenaran, membantu dan mendukung, dan diskusi. Pengumpulan data diambil dari seluruh film Karate Kid yang difokuskan pada dialog, naskah dan adegan dalam film Karate Kid yang digunakan untuk menganalisis film tersebut. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, delapan indikator kesalehan sosial dimasukkan ke dalam film. Ada tiga adegan yang berhubungan dengan cinta dan perhatian. Dua adegan lainnya terkait dengan melakukan perbuatan baik dan membantu/mendukung. Ada empat adegan yang terkait dengan keadilan. Ada satu adegan yang berhubungan dengan persaudaraan dan keberanian membela kebenaran. Dua adegan lainnya terkait dengan diskusi. Kesimpulannya, meskipun film ini bertemakan bullying, namun film ini menyampaikan pesan tentang nilai-nilai kebaikan, termasuk pentingnya kesalehan sosial.
