Abstract

Community-based suicide prevention programs are gaining recognition for their holistic, participatory, and context-sensitive approaches to reducing suicide rates. This narrative review aims to synthesize recent empirical findings on the effectiveness of such interventions, especially in integrating local engagement, educational and religious institutions, sociocultural strategies, and comparative international practices. Utilizing a structured literature search across Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar, relevant peer-reviewed articles were selected and analyzed thematically. The results demonstrate that community-driven programs effectively reduce suicide risks by enhancing early detection, emotional support, and crisis response capacities. Engagement of schools and religious leaders fosters mental health literacy, while cultural adaptation improves acceptance and inclusivity. International comparisons reveal that while developed countries benefit from advanced infrastructure and formal systems, developing nations often succeed through community innovation and resilience. Nevertheless, systemic challenges—such as policy gaps, mental health service disparities, and social stigma—persist across contexts. These findings reaffirm the need for a multisectoral, collaborative framework that integrates policy support, community empowerment, and sustainable funding. Strategic use of digital tools and long-term program evaluation is essential. This review contributes to the growing body of knowledge advocating for community-centric, culturally responsive, and structurally supported suicide prevention models.

Abstract

This study explores how teacher professional identity and autonomy evolve within global education systems undergoing sociopolitical, cultural, and technological change. Anchored in the Critical Agency Framework, the study synthesizes recent empirical and theoretical research to examine how policy structures, cultural norms, and digital infrastructure shape teacher agency. It highlights how teachers navigate professional expectations within centralized systems, community traditions, and resource disparities. This study employed a hybrid approach integrating systematic review protocols with narrative synthesis. Academic sources were retrieved from Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar using structured searches and citation tracking. Peer-reviewed studies were selected for relevance to teacher identity and autonomy, covering diverse contexts including Mexico, Vietnam, China, and Finland. The findings highlight the necessity of integrated policy approaches that treat teachers as co-constructors of reform and recognize the socio-cultural and infrastructural contexts in which they operate. Effective educational change depends not only on institutional mandates but on authentic collaboration, cultural responsiveness, and investments in teacher capacity. This study contributes to the literature by offering a global, multi-layered analysis of how systemic structures shape the lived professional experiences of teachers. It underscores the importance of moving beyond one-size-fits-all policy frameworks and calls for adaptive, inclusive, and equity-driven reforms.

Abstract

In the digital age, journalism faces a multitude of ethical challenges that demand critical reassessment of traditional media ethics. This narrative review investigates how communication ethics in journalism and social media have evolved, focusing on themes such as misinformation, transparency, media accountability, and cultural interpretations of ethical standards. Drawing on over fifty peer-reviewed studies sourced from Scopus, Google Scholar, and other databases, the review synthesizes empirical data and theoretical insights to evaluate the current state and future direction of media ethics. The methodology involved targeted keyword searches and thematic categorization of literature from 2010 to 2024, encompassing global perspectives with particular attention to Southeast Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. The findings reveal that adherence to journalistic codes of ethics correlates strongly with public trust and media credibility. Furthermore, fact-checking initiatives, media literacy programs, and ethical journalism training have demonstrated effectiveness in countering misinformation and enhancing ethical engagement. Discussion highlights the systemic influence of political regimes, market forces, and cultural values in shaping journalistic practice. While regulatory and educational interventions show promise, structural barriers and digital disruption remain significant obstacles. The review concludes by recommending adaptive, context-sensitive ethical frameworks and greater international collaboration to strengthen journalistic integrity and combat misinformation in a rapidly changing media environment.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the structural gap between ASEAN’s rhetorical commitment to the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) and its practical implementation in Southeast Asia, particularly in addressing large-scale human rights violations. Using a qualitative research design, the study adopts a systematic and contextually grounded literature review method, integrating normative analysis and empirical case studies to assess how R2P is interpreted, contested, and operationalized within ASEAN’s legal-political frameworks. Data were sourced from peer-reviewed publications, legal documents, and institutional reports, and analyzed using contextual analysis and thematic coding. The findings reveal that despite formal support for R2P as articulated in the 2005 World Summit Outcome Document, ASEAN’s operational response to humanitarian crises, such as the Rohingya genocide in Myanmar and the prolonged conflict in Papua, Indonesia, remains limited, symbolic, and diplomatically cautious. The region’s deep-rooted adherence to the principle of non-intervention, along with consensus-based decision-making and institutional inertia, has significantly constrained ASEAN’s ability to fulfill the third pillar of R2P: the international responsibility to act when a state fails to protect its population. This study concludes that effective implementation of R2P in Southeast Asia requires not only normative commitment but also institutional transformation. This includes redefining the principle of non-intervention, strengthening the mandate of ASEAN’s human rights mechanisms such as AICHR, and developing coordinated post-intervention strategies that involve local and regional actors. The significance of this research lies in its contribution to both scholarship and policy. It offers a region-specific, norm localization perspective on R2P, addressing gaps in the existing literature that often overlook Southeast Asia’s unique normative context. At the same time, it provides practical insights for reforming ASEAN’s institutional architecture to enable more responsive, legitimate, and context-sensitive humanitarian action.

Abstract

This study explores the framing effects in tax policy communication and how they influence public perception, compliance behavior, and institutional trust across various political and cultural contexts. Framing refers to the strategic presentation of tax messages, which can significantly shape public understanding and attitudes. A structured narrative review was employed, synthesizing key empirical and theoretical contributions using targeted keyword searches across multiple databases, but without formal coding protocols as in a systematic review. Key search terms included "framing effects," "tax policy communication," "tax compliance," and "public perception of taxes." The review finds that justice-based framing—emphasizing fairness, social benefits, and moral responsibility—generates higher levels of tax compliance and public support. In contrast, framing taxes solely through economic efficiency tends to weaken public engagement. Contextual factors such as political ideology, media framing, and tax literacy strongly influence message reception. International comparisons further reveal that culturally adaptive framing strategies are more effective, particularly in participatory governance contexts. Despite promising findings, the literature lacks longitudinal studies and cross-cultural analysis. These results underscore the importance of developing tax communication strategies that are transparent, emotionally resonant, and tailored to diverse audiences. Policymakers are encouraged to integrate public feedback, expand tax education, and use digital platforms for interactive engagement. This study contributes to the field by identifying framing as pivotal in advancing equitable and sustainable tax systems.

Abstract

This research explores the subject-verb agreement system of Pashto and English, focusing on their syntactic and morphological properties. Pashto belongs to the group of Indo-Iranian languages, characterized by a sophisticated agreement system with verbs inflected for number, person, and gender, particularly in past and future tenses. In contrast to Pashto, the English language has a simpler agreement system with minimal inflection. This study explores various approaches to grammatical agreement and their implications for language learning and theoretical linguistics by comparing the subject-verb agreement of both languages. A comparative linguistic approach was employed, utilizing a qualitative method. Data were collected from written and spoken sources in both languages, followed by systematic syntactic analysis. The findings of this study show apparent discrepancies in the agreement system of Pashto and English Languages.  Pashto has a complex agreement system involving a rich inflection for number, person, and gender, showing a loaded morphological structure. This inflectional richness of Pashto provides multifaceted information that supports accurate and clear communication. In contrast, English has a more streamlined agreement system with simpler inflection.  Moreover, the findings contribute to the knowledge of cross-linguistics variations and offer information for language education in multilingual contexts.

Abstract

This study investigated the politeness strategies used by Park Jin Young when commenting on the American contestants’ performance in the A2K show and its factors. The aim was to find what types of politeness strategies Park Jin Young used and the factors that influenced him to choose those in the A2K show. The method used is a qualitative method using Scollon et al.'s (2012) politeness theory. The result showed that Park Jin Young used more involvement than an independence strategy. The factors influencing it are the power and distance factors, revealing his implementation of a hierarchical politeness structure. In addition, the weight of imposition factor reveals that even though Park Jin Young tries to adapt to American politeness when commenting on American contestants' performances, he still maintains his identity as a Korean by using independent strategies

Abstract

This study analyzes the visualization of gender stereotypes in Indonesian and Korean Pocari Sweat advertisements 2018 using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. The research aims to compare and interpret how gender roles are portrayed in these advertisements, reflecting the cultural contexts of Indonesia and Korea. A qualitative method was applied, utilizing Barthes' semiotic analysis to examine the primary data—images extracted from the advertisements. Secondary data, including literature reviews and relevant studies, provided additional context. The data collection process involved selecting advertisements, segmenting visual elements, and analyzing their meanings based on denotation and connotation. Findings indicate that Indonesian Pocari Sweat advertisements reinforce patriarchal values by depicting women in supportive roles, often serving men. In contrast, Korean advertisements promote a feminist perspective, showcasing women engaging in physically demanding activities, challenging traditional gender norms. These differences highlight the cultural disparities in gender perceptions between the two countries. The study concludes that advertising serves as a medium that reflects and perpetuates societal gender norms. Indonesian advertisements maintain traditional gender roles, while Korean advertisements align with progressive feminist movements. This research underscores the role of media in shaping public perceptions of gender and contributes to discussions on gender representation in advertising.

Abstract

This study aims to design and assess the technical, environmental, and economic feasibility of an integrated Zero-Waste Palm Oil biorefinery for the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and other value-added co-products. A quantitative-descriptive approach was employed, integrating process simulation using Aspen Plus V14, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and financial modeling to evaluate the system’s performance and sustainability. Primary data were obtained from operational palm oil mills. In contrast, secondary data were sourced from the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Statistics Indonesia (BPS), and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) during 2023–2024. The results demonstrate that the integrated biorefinery configuration, which combines thermochemical conversion pathways (pyrolysis, gasification, and Fischer–Tropsch synthesis) with biochemical processes (anaerobic digestion), achieves a mass conversion efficiency of 58.4 percent, net energy efficiency of 72 percent, and an Energy Return on Investment (EROI) of 4.97, exceeding the global bioenergy feasibility threshold of three. The LCA results indicate total Life-cycle emissions of 17.3 g CO?-eq per MJ, representing an 80.6 percent reduction relative to fossil-based Jet A-1 fuel, thereby meeting both CORSIA and RED II sustainability standards. The system also achieves a 95 percent reduction in solid residues, effectively realizing a near-zero-waste operation. Financial modeling reveals a net present value (NPV) of USD 68.2 million, an internal rate of return (IRR) of 17.6 percent, and a payback period of 6.2 years, confirming the project’s economic viability. Overall, this model establishes a scalable pathway for decarbonizing the palm oil industry through circular bioeconomy principles and positions Indonesia as a potential global hub for SAF production aligned with international carbon reduction targets.
