Abstract

Chef carp (Carassius auratus) is a freshwater ornamental fish that is one of the ornamental fish that is widely cultivated because it has a diverse body shape and has a variety of colors. The problem often faced by carp suppliers in the process of distributing fish with a closed fish transportation system is low survival pass. The use of such anesthesia materials is quite effective in closed transport systems. One of the natural compounds that can be used as an anesthetic agent is rotenon. The roots of tubal plants contain rotenon, a powerful poison for fish and insects. The method used in this study is an experimental method, this study uses Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 repeats. The dose of tubal root extract used was P1 (control), P2 (0.10 ml / L), P3 (0.15 ml / L), P4 (0.20 ml / L). The density of fish per plastic bag amounts to 10 heads with a transportation time of 9 hours. The parameters observed were length of intoxication time, survival rate, length of time recovered consciously, oxygen consumption rate and water quality. Giving doses of tubal root extract with different doses had a significant effect (P<0.05). The highest survival rate value in P2 treatment with a dose of 0.10 ml and saving the rate of oxygen consumption with the right dose is in P4 with a dose of 0.20 ml / L ranging from 0.039 mg O2 / minute.

Abstract

Koi fish are a type of carp that have very beautiful and tame ornaments. This fish is often considered a variant of the Goldfish, even though it is genetically different. Transporting live fish can be defined as an action of moving fish in a living state from one place to another, with measures taken to ensure the fish's survival remains high until they reach their destination. Closed transportation is carried out by means of transport that is not directly connected to the air, often done to maintain the rate of oxygen consumption. Plants called betel leaves serve as herbal medicines and anesthetics for various fish species, including koi fish. This study aims to determine the best dose of green betel leaf extract as an anesthetic for closed transport on the survival of koi fish fry transported for 8 hours, using different doses of 10ml/L, 20ml/L, 30ml/L, and 40ml/L with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method. The results of this study show survival rates at doses of 10ml/L 83%, 20ml/L 90%, 30ml/L 77%, and 40ml/L 60%. In addition to testing for survival during transport, this study also aims to measure the Oxygen Consumption Rate (OCR) of each treatment. The results of this study show the OCR test results: P1 0.036 mgO2/min, P2 0.027 mgO2/min, P3 0.025 mgO2/min, and P4 0.022 mgO2/min

Abstract

Nannochloropsis sp. is a microalga widely used as natural feed, particularly for rotifers, Artemia, and the larvae of fish and shrimp. During cultivation, this microalga requires essential nutrients such as nitrate and phosphate to support photosynthesis and growth. Aquaculture pond wastewater often contains organic matter that can cause environmental pollution but may also serve as a potential nutrient source for microalgal culture. This study aimed to evaluate the growth performance of Nannochloropsis sp. in different aquaculture wastewater media. The experiment was conducted from September to October 2021 using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments: P0 (control/seawater), P1 (vannamei shrimp pond wastewater), P2 (milkfish pond wastewater), and P3 (grouper pond wastewater), each with three replications. The results showed that P1 produced the highest growth performance, with cell density reaching 2.15 × 10⁶ cells/ml. These findings indicate that shrimp pond wastewater can be utilized as an alternative medium for microalgal cultivation while simultaneously supporting sustainable aquaculture waste management.

Abstract

Indonesia could potentially benefit significantly from economically important lobster species of the Panulirus genus, particularly the painted spiny lobster (P. versicolor) and the white-whiskered coral crayfish (P. femoristriga). Effective conservation decisions relating to these species require detailed knowledge of morphological variation and genetic relationships, especially in Palu Bay, Central Sulawesi, which is broadly considered pivotal for lobster conservation management. In this study, we conducted morphometric and genetic analyses to examine diversity and population structure of P. versicolor and P. femoristriga. From May to November 2021, a total of 72 specimens were collected in Kabonga Village, Donggala Regency, consisting of 53 P. versicolor and 19 P. femoristriga. Using the truss morphometric method, we divided the lobster body into four regions and measured 24 morphometric characters. Despite shared external traits, our truss morphometric analysis indicated that the two species represent distinct populations. Genetic analyses were performed on representative samples (n = 2) using mitochondrial COI sequences, confirming their identity as P. versicolor and P. femoristriga. Although haplotype analysis revealed genetic variability, the analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) showed that the two populations shared genetic traits and had no significant genetic differences. Haplotype networks further indicated interconnections with more than one nucleotide substitution among haplotypes. Our findings demonstrate that although P. versicolor and P. femoristriga coexist in Palu Bay, they are morphologically distinct and require separate management and conservation strategies. These results provide baseline information for developing sustainable lobster fishery management in Central Sulawesi.
