Abstract

Aphasia is the loss of language function due to brain damage in an area associated with language comprehension and production. Patients with aphasia need a method that can be used to aid language recovery, one of which uses the method of response elaboration training (RET) by providing a stimulus for narrative ability through speech prompting. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the application of the Response Elaboration Training (RET) method on storytelling ability in aphasia patients in Surakarta City. This study experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest design and five intervention using the response elaboration training (RET) method. The total sampling technique with the of respondents in this study amounted to 15 respondents with aphasia. The Wilcoxon test was used for data analysis. Results of the Wilcoxon test obtained a p-value (Sig.) of 0.001 (p-value <0.05), so it can be concluded that there is an efficacy of the aphasia training. There is an effectiveness of the application of the response elaboration training (RET) method on the narrative ability of aphasia patients in Surakarta City.

Abstract

This study aims to test the effect of the JASPER method to improve social communication in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in the Teluk Gong area of ​​North Jakarta. This study uses a quantitative experimental approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design involving 10 children with Autism Spectrum Disorder aged 2 to 12 years as samples. The instruments used are the JASPER method module as a guide when conducting treatment and a Social Communication Skills questionnaire with adequate validity and reliability tests. Data analysis used is univariate analysis to see the frequency of distribution and percentage of each variable and the Wilcoxon bivariate test using SPSS 27, 2020. The results of the study indicate the effect of the JASPER method to improve social communication in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in the Teluk Gong area of ​​North Jakarta (r = 0.005, p <0.05) meaning there is an effect between before and after being given the JASPER method intervention/treatment. These findings indicate that the JASPER method is a proven method to help children with Autism Spectrum Disorder to improve their social communication skills. This research hopes to be a reference for speech therapists, educators, parents, future researchers and professional organizations.

Abstract

Manusia berinteraksi satu sama lain melalui komunikasi dalam bentuk bahasa lisan namun tidak dengan anak gangguan pendengaran. Komunikasi dapat terjadi baik secara verbal maupun nonverbal. Ketidakmampuan bicara secara verbal akibat kerusakan fungsi pendengaran juga dikatakan sebagai disability, namun disability yang dialami tunarungu dapat dikompensasikan dengan menggunakan bahasa isyarat sehingga diharapkan dapat membantu tunarungu berkomunikasi total secara sosial dikehidupan sehari-hari. Untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan bahasa isyarat terhadap kemampuan bahasa reseptif pada anak dengan gangguan pendengaran. Peneliti menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif untuk memperoleh pemahaman secara general dan mendeskripsikan fenomena-fenomena yang ditelaah secara numerik. Dengan menggunakan sampel 30 anak yang mengalami gangguan pendengaran di SLB YRTRW Surakarta..Hasil penelitian ini yaitu Uji ANOVA menghasilkan nilai F sebesar 63,693 dengan tingkat signifikansi 0,000, yang menunjukkan bahwa model regresi ini secara keseluruhan signifikan dalam menjelaskan hubungan antara Kemampuan Bahasa Isyarat dan Kemampuan Bahasa Reseptif. Dengan kata lain, Kemampuan Bahasa Isyarat memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap Kemampuan Bahasa Reseptif. Terdapat pengaruh bahasa isyarat terhadap kemampuan bahasa reseptif.

Abstract

Deteksi dini permasalahan artikulasi anak disabilitas yang perlu dilakukan oleh guru dan orang tua di Sekolah maupun di rumah untuk menentukan program yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan anak. Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan keterampilan guru dan orang tua dalam melakukan deteksi dini dalam hal ini adalah identifikasi awal sebagai Langkah awal dalam mengenali anak yang mengalami gangguan artikulasi. Pelaksanaan pengabdian ini terdiri dari 3 tahap yaitu persiapan, pelaksanaan dan evaluasi. Peserta pengabdian ini terdiri dari 7 guru dan 10 orang tua di SLB N Boyolali. Pada pelaksanaan sosialisasi diberikan pre-post test kepada peserta pengabian dimana tes terdiri dari 8 soal tentang pengetahuan awal konsep gangguan artikulasi yaitu definisi artikulasi, karakteristik gangguan artikulasi, penanganan awal gangguan artikulasi. Analisis data menggunakan T-test yang diolah menggunakan aplikasi SPSS. Hasil pengabdian terjadi peningkatan keterampilan atau pengetahuan guru dan orang tua tentang deteksi dini masalah artikulasi pada anak disabilitas. Nilai rata-rata pengetahuan guru dan ibu tentang permasalahan artikulasi sebelum mengikuti kegiatan adalah 80 kemudian mengalami peningkatan dengan rata-rata 91,7 setelah mengikuti kegiatan. Keterampilan atau pengetahuan tentang deteksi dini artikulasi mengalami peningkatan, dari rata-rata 71, 4 menjadi rata-rata 98,2 analisis uji Wilcoxon adalah nilai p = 0.000 (p < 0,05). Hal tersebut menujukkan terdapat perbedaan keterampilan atau pengetahuan sebelum dan sesudah mengikuti kegiatan. Dengan peningkatan keterampilan atau pengetahuan guru dan orang tua terhadap masalah artikulasi anak disabilitas sangat penting, karena permasalahan artikulasi bisa menghambat komunikasi anak di sekolah maupun masyarakat.

Abstract

Membaca adalah suatu proses dimana seseorang memperoleh informasi dari media tertulis, semakin banyak seseorang membaca maka akan semakin banyak informasi yang diperoleh oleh pembaca. Seseorang harus memiliki pemahaman membaca yang baik, agar informasi atau pesan yang telah dibaca tersampaikan dengan baik. Pemahaman membaca adalah suatu kemampuan yang harus ditingkatkan untuk melengkapi pengetahuan dan pemahaman siswa terhadap materi, konsep, dan informasi yang terus berkembang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui profil kemampuan pemahaman membaca pada anak sekolah dasar kelas dua dan tiga di Surakarta serta mengetahui bagaimana gambaran kemampuan pemahaman membaca berdasarkan faktor sosiodemografi. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain deskriptif. Teknik sampling yang digunakan yaitu kuota sampling dengan jumlah responden sebanyak 243 anak. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan sebagian besar skor kemampuan pemahaman membaca berada pada kategori sedang. Kemampuan pemahaman membaca anak terdiri dari tidak baik 5,3%, sedang 57,2%, dan baik 37,4%. Faktor yang paling terlihat memiliki efek terhadap kemampuan pemahaman membaca anak adalah jenis kelamin, anak dengan jenis kelamin perempuan kemampuan pemahaman membaca lebih unggul. Faktor-faktor sosiodemografi yang diteliti tidak menunjukkan efek yang signifikan.

Abstract

Kemampuan kognitif dan memori memiliki peran penting dalam mendukung proses belajar siswa sekolah dasar. Gangguan pada kedua fungsi tersebut dapat memengaruhi konsentrasi, pemahaman materi, serta prestasi akademik. Namun, deteksi dini terhadap gangguan kognitif dan memori di lingkungan sekolah masih belum optimal, salah satunya disebabkan oleh keterbatasan pengetahuan dan keterampilan guru dalam mengenali tanda-tanda awal gangguan tersebut. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberdayakan guru sekolah dasar melalui edukasi, pelatihan praktis penggunaan lembar observasi, dan pendampingan dalam menerapkan deteksi dini gangguan kognitif dan memori pada siswa. Sebanyak 10 guru sekolah dasar terlibat sebagai peserta. Evaluasi program dilakukan melalui uji T-Test untuk mengukur perbedaan tingkat pemahaman guru sebelum dan sesudah intervensi. Hasil menunjukkan adanya peningkatan skor pemahaman dari rata-rata 4,70 pada pre-test menjadi 8,30 pada post-test dengan nilai signifikansi p=0,000. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa rangkaian kegiatan edukasi, pelatihan praktis, dan pendampingan yang diberikan terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam melakukan deteksi dini gangguan kognitif dan memori pada siswa sekolah dasar. Program ini direkomendasikan untuk diterapkan secara berkelanjutan guna memperkuat kapasitas guru dalam mendukung proses pembelajaran yang lebih optimal.

Abstract

Background: Abstract Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder that affects communication, social interaction, and behavior, with signs of difficulty understanding and using language verbally or nonverbally. The language ability of children with autism is different from other children, the syntactic pattern is still simple, often only mentioning phrases in saying something so that they are not able to make meaningful sentences. The prevalence of children with autism in Surakarta City reaches 100 children and is the second highest number of autistic students in Central Java. Objectives: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the drill method on syntactic abilities in ASD. Methods: The type of research to be conducted is quantitative research with the method used, namely pre- experimental with One Group Pre-test Post-test Design. The number of samples used was 15 children with ASD. The collected data will be analyzed descriptively and bivariously using a statistical test technique, namely the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results: Based on the pre-test and post-test bivariate tests that have been carried out on 15 ASD children, the results show that the pretest posttest score was obtained with a Z value of -3.334 and an Asymp.Sig (2-tailed) value of 0.001. Because the value is 0.001 < 0.05, Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Conclusion: After receiving treatment 12 times, it was found that the average increase in the test score from 12.40 to 16.20 based on the results of the analysis test with the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test obtained a p value (sig.) of 0.001 or a p value (sig.) <0.05. So it can be interpreted that there is an increase in syntactic ability using the drill method in children with autism spectrum disorder. Keywords: Drill Method, Autism, Syntactic Ability

Abstract

Background: Voice problems, also called dysphonia, are a common sign in people who have COVID-19. Despite this, it is often underestimated as it is a relatively less frequent and life-threatening symptom. These changes are called vocal functional changes. Most of them happen because of the immune system's response after an infection. This then causes the voice to not work as well. Objectives: This research aims to learn how often voice issues linked to COVID happen across the globe. It also checks for possible things that make these issues more likely, both when sick and later on. The purpose is to give ideas for better ways to care for people. Methods: This research design uses a systematic literature review, the selected studies are in the period 2020-2025. Research data was searched from databases, including: PubMed, Science Direct and Google Scholar. By using the search keywords (“COVID-19” OR “SARS-CoV-2”) AND (“voice impairment” OR ‘dysphonia’ OR "aphonia). Results: It was found that dysphonia is a common and significant symptom in COVID-19 patients, with multifactorial causes including laryngeal inflammation, mechanical trauma, and neurological disorders. Conclusion: The prevalence of dysphonia varies depending on the severity of the disease and the presence of risk factors such as gender or smoking habits. Abstract

Background: Speech Sound Disorders (SSD) are among the most common communication problems treated by speech-language therapists. Despite its high prevalence, intervention remains challenging due to diverse error patterns, limited resources, and varying clinical decision-making. Objectives: This study aims to identify challenges in SSD intervention programs through a systematic review, providing insight to strengthen clinical practice and guide future research. Methods: A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Articles published between 2015–2025 were retrieved from Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and manual searches using predetermined keywords. Inclusion criteria consisted of full-text English studies reporting challenges in SSD intervention, while effectiveness trials and conceptual-only literature were excluded. Results: Nine studies met the criteria. Four major challenges were identified: (1) limited intervention intensity; (2) clinical decision-making influenced more by therapist experience and context than by structured evidence; (3) low implementation of evidence-based approaches; and (4) inconsistent assessment tools and limited home practice support. These barriers impact diagnosis accuracy, target selection, and treatment outcomes. Conclusion: SSD intervention faces clinical, practical, and institutional barriers. Strengthening evidence-based practice, improving assessment consistency, and optimizing support systems—including parent involvement—may enhance service quality and outcomes. Abstract

Background: A child’s eating and swallowing abilities depend on physiological readiness, environmental stimulation, and early feeding experiences. Lack of exclusive breastfeeding or inappropriate complementary feeding can hinder oromotor development, leading to difficulties in chewing, swallowing, or self-feeding during the preschool years. This study examines the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding history, complementary feeding practices, and toddlers’ eating and swallowing abilities. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Surakarta, Central Java, from April to August 2025, involving 50 randomly selected participants. The dependent variables were children’s swallowing and eating abilities, while the independent variables included exclusive breastfeeding history and complementary feeding practices. Data were gathered using a structured questionnaire and analyzed through path analysis using Stata version 13. Results: Optimal eating ability was significantly influenced by a history of exclusive breastfeeding (b = 2.05; p = 0.048), appropriate complementary feeding (b = 2.50; p = 0.022), and adequate swallowing ability (b = 2.36; p = 0.030). Exclusive breastfeeding and proper complementary feeding also indirectly improved eating ability through their positive effects on swallowing ability. Conclusion: This study highlights the need for maternal education on exclusive breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding to promote optimal eating and swallowing development in toddlers, thereby minimizing the risk of related disorders and their potential impact on nutrition and growth.
