Abstract

Abstract

This research is a qualitative research with a descriptive method which aims to describe the deconstruction of directive illocutionary speech acts contained in One Piece Film: Red. Data was collected through proficient free-involved listening techniques and data transcription. The data source comes from the dialogue of the characters in One Piece Film: Red. The research results show that the deconstruction of directive illocutionary speech acts contained in One Piece Film: Red reveals the ambiguity and instability of meaning in each utterance. Commands given by certain characters often have multiple meanings, depending on the context of the conversation and the relationships between the characters. It is hoped that this research can contribute to the study of pragmatic linguistics, especially in understanding the nature of meaning instability in speech acts through popular media such as films. Keywords: Deconstruction, Directive Speech Act, One Piece Film: Red.

Abstract

Iyeq as a Dominant Politeness Marker in Sidrap Buginese in Sulawesi Selatan: A Sociopragmatic Perspective". The Buginese language in South Sulawesi has several dialects, one of which is the Sidenreng Rappang (Sidrap) dialect. A distinguishing feature of the Sidrap dialect is the high and rapid intonation of its speakers. Due to this intonation, the Sidrap dialect is sometimes perceived as harsh by speakers of other Buginese dialects. However, language cannot be judged solely on speed and intonation, as numerous underlying social factors influence it, including differing standards and markers of politeness. This article is based on a study conducted in Macorawalie Village, Panca Rijang District, Sidrap Regency. The findings reveal that, in addition to age and occupation, speakers of the Sidrap dialect also take family or kinship relations into account when selecting language varieties in conversation. For instance, among older adults, the honorific variety is still employed even when interlocutors are close and of the same age. Furthermore, the word iyeq is identified as a dominant politeness marker in Sidrap Buginese speech. The word iyeq functions as an honorific complement within the politeness strategies of the Sidrap Buginese community. In conversational contexts, the word iyeq is consistently found and is generally placed at the beginning of a sentence.

Abstract

Although writing scientific papers requires critical thinking and mastery of academic language, many students still struggle with coherence, logical structure, and proper citation. However, advances in artificial intelligence (AI), particularly prompt-based generative language models, offer new opportunities to support academic writing. The training included a presentation of the material and practical exercises, followed by questionnaires and interviews to explore students’ perceptions. The results indicated that the moderate and targeted use of AI, especially during the planning and revision stages, improved the clarity of the academic language and the cohesion between paragraphs. AI helped students overcome psychological barriers to writing, increasing their motivation without raising ethical concerns related to academic integrity and overreliance on AI-generated content. Overall, the community service team concludes that prompt-based AI can effectively enhance students’ scientific papers when used with critical reflection, guidance from lecturers, and strong ethical awareness.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of using a guessing game through the Kahoot application to improve vocabulary mastery among kindergarten children. The research was conducted at TK Dharma Wanita UNHAS, involving children from group B2 as participants. The study employed a pre-experimental design using a one-group pre-test and post-test model. The vocabulary materials covered in this study focused on four main themes: colors, animals, fruits, and numbers. These topics were selected based on their relevance and familiarity to early childhood learners. The pre-test results showed that most students were in the "Not Yet Developed" (30%) and "Starting to Develop" (35%) categories. In contrast, the post-test results showed that none of the students remained in the "Not Yet Developed" category. A total of 50% of students reached the "Developed Very Well" category, indicating a significant improvement after the implementation of the guessing game with the Kahoot application. The students' average scores also increased from 47.5 to 80. In conclusion, the findings suggest that the use of Kahoot-based guessing games is an effective teaching strategy for enhancing vocabulary mastery among kindergarten children. It creates a fun, interactive, and motivating learning environment, which is essential for young learners in acquiring new improving vocabulary.
