Abstract

Parents, especially mothers, have an important role in maintaining the health of their family members. The role of parents is very much needed in guiding, providing understanding, reminding, and providing facilities to children and their family members so that they can maintain their dental and oral hygiene. In efforts to care for teeth and mouth, the amount of information obtained by mothers will affect the efforts of the family's dental and oral health. Mothers will be better at teaching how to brush their teeth, arranging the correct snack patterns and various other efforts in maintaining the dental and oral hygiene of their family members, so that knowledge about dental and oral health will be better. The purpose of community service activities is that promotion about fluoride will increase mothers' knowledge in efforts to prevent dental caries and improve the level of dental and oral health in children. The service method with Health Promotion and Guidance About Fluoride in Efforts to Prevent Dental Caries in Children about fluoride as a promotional media to increase mothers' understanding of fluoride knowledge. The results of the Community Service activities are that knowledge about fluoride and the skills of how to brush teeth properly and correctly owned by mothers, improve the dental and oral health of their family members so that it will prevent the risk of dental caries, especially in their children. The conclusion of this activity is that there is an effort to prevent tooth decay by guiding children to always maintain the cleanliness of their teeth and mouth by brushing their teeth properly, correctly and regularly and using toothpaste containing fluoride.

Abstract

Flavonoid compounds, triterpenes, tannins, polyphenols, and saponins can be found in cherry leaves (Muntingia calabura L.). Flavonoids are proven to be able to reduce free radicals, and thus can act as an antioxidant. The use of extraction methods can affect the content of flavonoid compounds contained in the extract . Thus, to extract flavonoids from plant leaves, it is necessary to optimize the right extraction method. Objective of this study was to compare the effect of using three different extraction methods, namely maceration, reflux, and sonication, on the total flavonoid content of cherry leaf ethanol extract. Cherry leaves were extracted with ethanol (1:10), using three different extraction methods, namely maceration, reflux, and sonication. The viscous extract obtained was then measured for total flavonoid content using UV-VIS spectrophotometry at 431 nm, using a standard solution of quercetin as a comparison. Total flavonoid content of ethanol extract of cherry leaf extracted by maceration, reflux, and sonication method respectively were 73.98 ± 0.06 mgQE/g; 60.55 ± 0.05 mgQE/g; and 92.53 ± 0.12 mgQE/g. Conclusion of this study was The extraction process influences the overall flavonoid concentration of cherry leaf ethanol extract.

Abstract

Toxicity testing is an initial step to evaluate the bioactivity of compounds that may exhibit toxic effects. In this study, zebrafish (Danio rerio) were used as the test animals. The rhizome of Curcuma purpurascens Blume is known to contain flavonoids, alkaloids, and tannins that potentially have toxic effects. The rhizome extract was standardized according to quality control tests. This study aimed to identify the toxic effects of the rhizome extract of Curcuma purpurascens and to determine its LC50 value. The toxicity test method used was acute toxicity testing in zebrafish, observing the mortality rate over a 96-hour period. Each aquarium contained 7 zebrafish, and the tested extract concentrations were 1000, 500, 250, 125, and 62.5 ppm. Mortality data were analyzed using the probit method with SPSS software to obtain the LC50 value, which represents the concentration that statistically causes 50% mortality of the test population within 24 hours. The results showed that the rhizome extract of Curcuma purpurascens exhibited toxic effects with an LC50 value of 83.7 ppm. This LC50 value falls within the toxic category based on toxicity test parameters. These findings indicate that the bioactive compounds in the rhizome extract, such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and tannins, which act as stomach poisons, cell proliferation inhibitors, and apoptosis inducers, can be toxic to normal human cells but may be useful in cancer treatment.

Abstract

Wuluh starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) and green betel (Piper betle L.) leaves are medicinal plants that have antibacterial properties. Medicinal plants can be used as alternative medicine to obtain new compounds as antibacterial. The chemical compounds in wuluh starfruit leaves that have antibacterial properties are flavonoids, saponins and tannins, while green betel leaves have flavonoids, saponins, tannins and essential oils. The study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of a combination of wuluh starfruit and green betel leaves extract against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. The experimental research used a diffusion method by disc paper based on the diameter of the inhibition zone or the clear area formed around the paper disc. The extracts were obtained by maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. The values of the inhibition zone in four concentrations; 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% were respectively 13 mm, 13.5 mm, 15 mm, and 16 mm. On the other hand, the concentration of 20% had the most effective inhibition zone with a strong category against Staphylococcus aureus.

Abstract

Produk perawatan kulit yang mengandung senyawa antioksidan sangat dibutuhkan untuk menangkal radikal bebas. Salah satu tanaman yang mengandung aktivitas antioksidan adalah kecambah kacang hijau (Vigna radiata (L.) R. Wilczek) atau tauge. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk memperoleh sediaan body lotion yang memiliki aktivitas antioksidan. Uji aktivitas antioksidan dilakukan dengan metode DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhidrazil) dengan spektrofotometri UV-Vis. Penelitian yang dilakukan merupakan jenis penelitian eksperimental dengan membuat 3 formulasi sediaan. Adapun konsentrasi ekstrak etanol kecambah kacang hijau yang digunakan sebesar 1% (Formula 1), 5% (Formula 2), dan 10 % (Formula 3). Sediaan body lotion kemudian diuji aktivitas antioksidan. Hasil yang didapatkan yaitu sediaan body lotion memiliki aktivitas antioksidan kuat pada formula 1 ( IC50 67,16 ppm) dan formula 2 (IC50 73 ppm), serta sangat kuat pada formula 3 (IC50 37,45 ppm). Formula sediaan body lotion ekstrak etanol kecambah kacang hijau (Vigna radiata (L.) R. Wilczek) yang memiliki aktivitas antioksidan terbesar yaitu F3.

Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) is one of the promotive and preventive efforts in the field of public health. Densely populated areas are vulnerable to various health problems due to density and limited sanitation facilities. This community service aims to improve understanding and practice of PHBS through health education activities. Activity methods include counseling, demonstrations, and mentoring involving the local community. The results of the activities show increased knowledge and positive behavioral changes in aspects of personal hygiene, waste management, and use of clean water. Health education has proven effective as an initial approach in forming a society that is aware of the importance of clean and healthy living.

Abstract

Purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.) leaves are traditionally used as an anti-inflammatory remedy. This study investigated the anti-inflammatory activity of purple sweet potato leaf ethanolic extract and its formulation into tablet dosage forms with varying concentrations of polyvinylpyrrolidone and amylum as binders. The extract was obtained through maceration using 96% ethanol and tested for anti-inflammatory activity using the bovine serum albumin denaturation method. The extract showed strong anti-inflammatory activity with an IC₅₀ value of 62.628 ppm compared to sodium diclofenac with an IC₅₀ of 57.326 ppm. The extract was then formulated into tablets with binder ratios of 1:0, 0:1, 1:1, 2:3, and 1:4 (polyvinylpyrrolidone: amylum) using wet granulation. Evaluation of physical properties indicated that the 1:1 binder ratio produced tablets that met quality requirements, including hardness, friability, and disintegration time. These results suggest that I. batatas leaf extract has potent anti-inflammatory properties and is suitable for development into a tablet formulation with appropriate binder ratios.

Abstract

Tuberkulosis merupakan salah satu penyakit menular yang mematikan di dunia. Tuberkulosis disebabkan oleh infeksi Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Kasus tuberkulosis pada tahun 2022 yaitu 824.000 dan angka kematian 93.000 per tahun. Penyakit tuberkosis yang disebabkan oleh terapi pengobatan jangka panjang dan merupakan penyakit yang masuk dalam kode ICD-10 biaya jaminan kesehatan nasional. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui biaya sakit akibat akibat tuberkulosis menurut healthcare perspective dan untuk mengetahui variabel-variabel yang berhubungan dengan biaya sakit tuberkulosis di RSUD dr. Soeselo Slawi pada tahun 2022. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan observasional dengan desain penelitian cross sectional pada 82 data pasien, Metode analisis deksriptif untuk mengetahui estimasi biaya dan metode statistic untuk mengetahui faktor yang mempengaruhi total biaya sakit pasien tuberkulosis. Berdasarkan penelitian menunjukkan biaya pelayanan merupakan komponen biaya yang paling tinggi dibandingkan komponen biaya lainnya. Rata-rata biaya pemeriksaan penunjang sebesar Rp. 753.827,00; biaya pelayanan sebesar Rp. 2.133.809,00; dan biaya farmasi sebesar Rp. 1.873.449,00. Rata-rata biaya sakit pasien tuberkulosis dari healthcare perspective sebesar Rp. 4.761.085,00. Komponen biaya sakit terbesar adalah biaya pelayanan. Variabel yang signifikan (p˂ 0.05) berhubungan dengan besarnya total biaya kesakitan adalah kelas perawatan, length of stay, biaya pemeriksaan penunjang, biaya pelayanan, dan biaya farmasi.

Abstract

Facial wash merupakan sabun pembersih wajah yang dapat membersihkan lapisan minyak di kulit wajah sekaligus kotoran penyebab jerawat. Salah satu tanaman obat di Indonesia yang memiliki senyawa antibakteri untuk melawan bakteri penyebab jerawat adalah daun patikan kebo (Euphorbia hirta L.). Hal ini didukung dengan kandungan bioaktif pada daun patikan kebo yang mempunyai aktivitas antibakteri seperti flavonoid, alkaloid, tanin, saponin, steroid, dan terpenoid. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri pada facial wash ekstrak etanol daun patikan kebo terhadap bakteri Propionibacterium acnes. Formulasi facial wash dengan variasi konsentrasi ekstrak etanol daun patikan kebo 1%, 2% dan 3% serta evaluasi sediaan meliputi uji organoleptis, uji homogenitas, uji pH, uji viskositas, uji tinggi busa dan uji akitivitas antibakteri facial wash ekstrak daun patikan kebo terhadap bakteri Propionibacterium acnes dengan metode sumuran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sediaan facial wash dari masing-masing konsentrasi memenuhi persyaratan uji sifat fisik. Hasil rata-rata zona hambat pada konsentrasi 0%, 1%, 2% dan 3% berturut-turut adalah 0 mm, 6,08 mm, 7 mm dan 8,16 mm. Semakin tinggi konsentrasi ekstrak etanol daun patikan kebo pada sediaan facial wash, maka semakin tinggi aktivitas antibakterinya.

Abstract

Vitamin C merupakan zat gizi yang berperan sebagai antioksidan yang mampu mengatasi radikal bebas yang dapat merusak jaringan atau sel, serta meningkatkan daya tahan tubuh yang akan diserap oleh kalsium dalam tubuh. Vitamin C banyak terdapat pada buah dan sayuran, salah satunya dalam buah pepaya california. Penelitian ini mengenai analisis kadar vitamin C di dalam buah pepaya california yang masih mentah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui kadar vitamin C yang terkandung pada buah pepaya california mentah. Metode penelitian meliputi pengumpulan sampel, determinasi tanaman, pengolahan sampel, analisis kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Analisis kualitatif dengan menggunakan pereaksi iodium, FeCl3 1%, Benedict dan pereaksi fehling A dan B, sedangkan pada analisis kuantitatif dengan menggunakan metode spektrofotometri UV-Vis dan analisis data menggunakan persamaan regresi linier. Hasil analisis kualitatif menunjukkan bahwa di dalam buah pepaya california mentah terdapat kandungan vitamin C. Panjang gelombang maksimum vitamin C yang diperoleh adalah 266,20 nm dengan nilai absorbansi 0,213. Persamaan regresi linier yang diperoleh adalah y = 0,0557x+0,1038, sehingga diperoleh kadar vitamin C pada buah pepaya california mentah sebesar 0,01638% dengan menggunakan spektrofotometri UV-Vis. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa buah pepaya california mentah (Carica papaya L.) terdapat kandungan vitamin C dan memiliki kadar vitamin C sebesar 0,01638%.
