Abstract

Abstract

Low learning independence is a challenge in science learning. The right learning model, such as PJBL-STEM, can be an alternative for students' understanding of the material in depth. This study was conducted to determine the influence of the PjBL-STEM learning model on students' independence in learning the circulatory system material. The method used is a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design, involving two classes, namely, the experimental class and the control class. This research instrument includes a learning independence questionnaire and an observation sheet on learning implementation. The results of the research that have been carried out show that the PjBL-STEM learning model has an influence on student independence in learning. The data was analyzed through IBM SPSS version 26. The results of this hypothesis test show that the PjBL-STEM model significantly increases student independence in learning, obtaining a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.022 < 0.05, thus H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, which corroborates that the PjBL-STEM model has a significant effect on increasing student learning independence in circulatory system materials.

Abstract

It is known that some schools in Serang City are still not optimal in empowering students' Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) habits and tend to lead to the C1 - C3 cognitive domain. The purpose of this study was to describe the level of validity and analyze students' responses to the Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS)-based Four-Tier Multiple Choice (4TMC) on Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures material in class VIII junior high school students (Phase D). Research and development was conducted using the R n D (Research and Development) method. The research was conducted using the ADDIE model which refers to the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The instruments used are interview instruments, validation questionnaires and learner response questionnaires. The subjects in this study were 3 expert lecturers of Science Education and 60 junior high school students in grade VIII. The validity level of the HOTS-based test instrument reached a value of 93.20% with the category “Very Feasible” and obtained the results of students' responses with the category “Good” at a percentage of 79.98%. Therefore, the HOTS-based 4TMC test instrument is very feasible to be used by teachers as a reference for conducting tests on science materials, especially elements, compounds, and mixtures.

Abstract

Current learning requires critical thinking skills, but the problem arises that students do not yet have critical thinking skills. Meanwhile, teachers have not created learning that can develop students' critical thinking skills. This is due to limited time in delivering very dense material. The lack of critical thinking skills can be addressed through learning activities that make students actively involved, namely by using E-LKPD. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of validity and readability of students towards E-LKPD based on critical thinking skills. The research method used was Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE development model (analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation). Data were obtained through observation, interviews, validation, and student readability tests. The results of the study based on experts obtained a percentage of 92.02% with a very valid category and for the readability test obtained a result of 88% with a very good category. From the results of the validation and readability test, it can be concluded that the development of E-LKPD based on critical thinking skills is proven to be very valid and has very good readability.
