Abstract

Anemia, especially iron deficiency anemia was marked with low hemoglobin (Hb) concentration than normal standard.Adolescents, especially girls when reached the age of menstruation were prone to this type of anemia because of blood loss from their monthly cycle. This research objective was to analyze the participant’s intake of iron, iron enhancers, and inhibitors intake and analyze its relationship to anemia incidence of MTs. Fadlurrahman, Bekasi 2022. This cross-sectional research used stratified random sampling based on their level of class. The participant’s number were 49 adolescent girls who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. 36,70% of all subjects had anemia. Most subjects (75,51%) had low iron consumption, rare iron enhancers consumption (75,51%), and frequent inhibitors consumption (51,02%). All the independent variables (iron intake, iron enhancers consumption, and iron inhibitor consumption) had a significant relationship (p<0,05) to the dependent variable (anemia incidence). This finding implicated adolescent girls in MTs. Fadlurrahman needs to consume more iron-rich foods and their enhancers while lower its inhibitor intake.

Abstract

Adolescent girls with anemia in Indonesia was still high. Adolescents, especially girls were prone to anemia due to their menstrual cycle every month. This cross-sectional study intended to analyze the relationship between knowledge about anemia and physical activity of adolescent girls with the anemia incidence. This research was conducted in MTs. Fadlurrahman, Bekasi, West Java, Indonesia in 2022. This cross-sectional study with 49 samples used stratified random sampling to determine the subjects. The result showed that 36,7% of subjects had anemia, 69,4% had low knowledge and 65,31% had low activity. Chi-square analysis indicated that knowledge of anemia in adolescent girls significantly (p<0,05) related to anemia incidence, but no significant (p>0,05) relationship between physical activity in adolescent girls with the anemia incidence. These findings indicated that increasing the knowledge was important to prevent anemia. Physical activity did not directly affect anemia incidence and needs further investigation.

Abstract

Pumpkin seeds had high dietary fiber and arginine content. In Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM), both dietary components play a significant role in controlling blood sugar. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of soybean tempeh substitution with pumpkin seeds on dietary fiber and arginine content, analyze organoleptic properties, determine the best formula, and analyze its nutritional information. This study used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with one factor, two repetitions, and four levels of treatment. The treatment levels were F0 (100:0), F1 (60:40), F2 (50:50), and F3 (40:60). The data analyzed used Anova showed that the substitution soybean using pumpkin seeds had a significantly increased dietary fiber and arginine content of tempeh (p<0.05). The organoleptic especially hedonic test showed that soybean substitution with pumpkin seed had a significant effect (p<0.05) on the panelist's reference level for color and texture parameters, meanwhile the aroma and taste parameters had no significant effect (p>0.05). The best tempeh formula determined using the Exponential Comparison Method is F3 (40:60). The serving size for the selected formula is 50 g tempeh with nutritional values of 187,14 kcal energy, 11,73 g protein, 12,33 g fat, 7,33 g carbohydrates, 9,87 g dietary fiber, and 1,91 g arginine. The best formula tempeh with pumpkin seed substitution claims to be high in dietary fiber (32,9% of daily needs) and high in protein (19,55% of daily needs)ABSTRAK  Biji labu kuning mengandung tinggi serat pangan dan arginin. Kedua jenis komponen zat gizi tersebut memiliki peran penting dalam menjaga kadar gula darah Diabetes Melitus Tipe 2 (DMT2). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pengaruh substitusi kedelai dengan biji labu kuning terhadap kadar serat pangan, arginin, dan sifat organileptik tempe, menentukan formula terpilih serta menganalisis kandungan gizinya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimental dengan desain Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) satu faktor, dua kali pengulangan, dan empat taraf perlakuan. Taraf perlakuan tersebut yaitu F0 (100:0), F1 (60:40), F2 (50:50), dan F3 (40:60). Hasil Anova menunjukkan bahwa substitusi kedelai dengan biji labu kuning berpengaruh nyata terhadap kadar serat pangan dan arginin tempe (p<0,05). Hasil uji hedonik menunjukkan bahwa substitusi kedelai dengan biji labu kuning berpengaruh nyata (p<0,05) terhadap tingkat kesukaan panelis pada parameter warna dan tekstur, sedangkan pada parameter aroma dan rasa tidak didapatkan pengaruh yang nyata (p>0,05). Penentuan Formula terpilih menggunakan Metode Perbandingan Eksponensial (MPE) sehingga didapatkan F3 (40:60) sebagai formula terpilih. Takaran saji untuk formula terpilih yaitu 50 g tempe dengan kandungan gizi sebesar 187,14 kkal energi, 11,73 g protein, 12,33 g lemak, 7,33 g karbohidrat, 9,87 g serat pangan, serta 1,91 g arginin. Produk formula terpilih tempe dengan substitusi biji labu kuning memiliki klaim tinggi serat pangan (32,9% dari total kebutuhan sehari) dan tinggi protein (19,55% dari total kebutuhan sehari). Kata kunci: tempe, biji labu kuning, serat pangan, arginin

Abstract

Background: Infant formula has a similar composition to breast milk, especially on key components like proteins, fats, and functional oligosaccharides. However, significant differences exist between bovine milk-based formula and human breast milk, particularly in the abundance and diversity of human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). HMOs are pivotal in shaping the infant gut microbiome and immune system, with potential implications for infant health and development.Objectives: The literature review aimed to explore the role of HMOs in shaping the gut microbiome and strengthening the intestinal immune system in infants.Methods: Descriptive research was carried out in May-August 2023 using the literature review method. The design and implementation of this study referred to the guidelines outlined in the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) for Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs). Literature sources were obtained from PubMed, Elsevier, Medline, Nature, PLOS, MPDI, JAMA, and Scopus publication databases with a limitation of the last ten years (2013-2023). One hundred twenty articles were obtained with these keywords and then selected in stages according to predetermined criteria. Six articles that met the criteria were retrieved from 2013-2023. The articles obtained were compiled, analyzed, and concluded by looking for similarities and dissimilarities, giving views, comparing, and summarizing.Results: The review revealed that HMOs significantly influenced the composition and function of the infant's intestinal microbiota, inhibiting harmful pathogens in the intestine. Therefore, HMOs as prebiotics were crucial in promoting intestinal immune system health in infants.Conclusion: Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMOs) in infant formula substantially impacted the gut microbiome composition and the infant's intestinal immune system. Studies consistently showed that HMOs influenced the growth and diversity of gut bacteria, leading to outcomes similar to those seen in breastfed infants.

Abstract

Pemberian ASI eksklusif berperan penting untuk kesehatan bayi. Data dari UPTD Puskesmas Pancoran Mas menyatakan terdapat 75,9% bayi yang mendapatkan ASI eksklusif. Tidak tercapainya ASI eksklusif dapat disebabkan oleh pemberian MPASI dini. Pendidikan MPASI dini adalah pemberian makanan pendamping ASI kepada bayi berusia kurang dari 6 bulan. Pemberian MPASI dini berdampak terhadap kesehatan bayi dan juga menggagalkan pemberian ASI eksklusif. Untuk mencegah praktik pemberian MPASI dini pada ibu menyusui perlu dilakukan kegiatan penyuluhan dan edukasi gizi untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan ibu. Kegiatan penyuluhan dan edukasi yang dilakukan adalah “PENDAMPING (Penyuluhan Dampak MPASI Dini dan Pencegahannya)” menggunakan media leaflet dan pemberian pre-test serta post-test kepada ibu menyusui. Pendidikan gizi ini dilakukan pada 30 orang ibu menyusui yang hadir di Puskesmas Pancoran Mas, Depok, Jawa Barat. Hasil pre-test dan post-test dianalisis menggunakan uji Wilcoxon untuk melihat hubungan pemberian edukasi dengan peningkatan pengetahuan ibu. Nilai rata-rata pre-test 53 dan rata-rata nilai post-test 91,33. Terdapat peningkatan pengetahuan ibu sebelum dan sesudah pemberian penyuluhan dengan nilai Asymp Sig. (2-tailed) 0,000. Pendidikan gizi tentang dampak MPASI dini efektif meningkatkan pengetahuan ibu di Depok, Jawa barat. Edukasi digunakan sebagai metode yang efektif untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan Ibu.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a major global health concern, contributing to high mortality rates among adults and the elderly. Recent trends show a substantial upsurge in hypertension prevalence among adolescents. According to the Health Office of Depok City, 78.10% of adolescents aged ≥15 years are reported to have hypertension. Hypertension during adolescence often persists into adulthood, increasing the risk of long-term morbidity and mortality. The primary contributors include unhealthy lifestyle practices and poor dietary habits. Objectives: To investigate factors associated with elevated blood pressure among adolescents in Depok City, West Java, Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 158 adolescents selected through stratified random sampling. Data collection took place between February to April 2024. Variables assessed included family history of hypertension, nutritional status (based on Body Mass Index categories as per the 2020 Ministry of Health regulation), and stress levels (measured using the Perceived Stress Scale). Statistical analysis employed chi-square tests and multiple logistic regression. Results: Significant associations were found between hypertension and family history (p-value = 0.034), nutritional status (p-value = 0.014), and stress levels (p-value < 0.001). Multivariate analysis indicated that stress levels were the strongest determinant of hypertension (OR = 6.09). Conclusions: Stress levels significantly influence blood pressure in adolescents. Schools should prioritize regular programs addressing stress management, emotional well-being, and balanced nutrition education to reduce the risk of adolescent hypertension.

Abstract

Background: Probiotics are bacteria that can be immunomodulators and interact with the body's immune system. There is a lack of information regarding the relationship between probiotics and the immune system in individuals who experience illness, especially respiratory infections.Objectives: This article complements the current information contained in several journals about the relationship between probiotics and the immune system in patients with respiratory tract infections.Methods: This descriptive study used a systematic literature review method and was conducted from February to May 2024. Literature from publication years 2014–2024 was obtained from PubMed, Google Scholar, Research Gate, and ScienceDirect. Data collection and analysis used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews (PRISMA) guidelines. A total of 71 articles were collected and selected in stages based on predetermined inclusion criteria. Four articles were successfully selected and then analyzed to find similarities, differences, and perspectives. The data was presented in the form of an extraction table for the population of all age ranges who experienced respiratory infectious diseases. The samples taken were those experiencing respiratory infectious diseases and taking probiotics.Results: Probiotics affect the immune system in patients with respiratory infections by increasing the size and number of plasma cells that produce immunoglobulin-A (IgA) and T cells..Conclusion: Probiotics affect the immune system of infectious disease patients by modulating the innate immune system as well as their antiviral properties. This is in line with previous research information where probiotics are effective in reducing the effects of respiratory infections and improving the immune system.KeywordsRespiratory Infectious Diseases, Probiotics, and the Immune System

Abstract

Background: Vitamin D is linked to immunity and autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Autoimmune diseases often involve impaired regulation of regulatory T cells (Tregs). Despite numerous studies exploring the relationship between vitamin D and Tregs in SLE, the findings remain inconclusive.Objectives: To determine whether there is a relationship or correlation between vitamin D and regulatory T cells in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus based on existing research articles employing different research methods.Methods: We conducted a systematic literature review following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines from February to May 2024. We sourced articles from Google Scholar, PubMed, and MDPI, focusing on research published between 2014 and 2024. Inclusion criteria were relevance to the topic and availability in full text, while exclusions were animal studies, research older than ten years, and articles not available in full text. Seven articles met the criteria and were reviewed.Results: Out of the seven articles reviewed, five found a correlation between vitamin D levels and the ratio and function of Tregs in SLE patients. Specifically, higher levels of vitamin D were associated with increased suppression of Tregs.Conclusion: The results of studies on vitamin D levels and Tregs in SLE patients are inconsistent. Further evaluation and additional research are required to determine the potential clinical benefits of vitamin D management in SLE therapy.

Abstract

Background: The gut microbiome, plays a crucial role in maintaining overall health. An imbalance in the microbiome (dysbiosis) can lead to various health issues, including type 2 diabetes. Prebiotics, as nutrients for gut microflora, have the potential to reduce dysbiosis and enhance gut immunity in type 2 diabetes patients. However, there is still limited research on the effects of prebiotics on gut immunity in individuals with type 2 diabetes.Objectives: To asses the effect of prebiotics on the gut immune system in patients with type 2 diabetes.Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted using the PRISMA method, including full-text RCT articles from 2014-2024. Databases searched included PubMed, Scopus, MDPI, and Elsevier.Results: Studies show prebiotics significantly influence gut microbiota composition, especially increasing Bifidobacterium in type 2 diabetes patients, though overall diversity remained unchanged due to short study durations.Conclusion: Prebiotics enhance gut microbiota, particularly Bifidobacterium, in type 2 diabetes patients. This increase, along with the production of SCFAs, plays a role in lowering gut pH, supporting the growth of beneficial bacteria, and inhibiting pathogens. These findings suggest the potential of prebiotics as part of type 2 diabetes management; however, further research is needed to confirm their clinical application. Healthcare institutions are encouraged to develop educational programs emphasizing the importance of gut microbiota and the role of prebiotics in the health of type 2 diabetes patients.

Abstract

Background: Anemia is condition of a person with hemoglobin value < 12 mg/dl. Moringa leaves are a soft woody plant with the term The Miracle Tree due to its abundant nutritional content and health benefits.Objectives: This study aims to analyze the relationship of Moringa leaf extract in increasing hemoglobin values in adolescent girls.Methods: Systematic Literature Review research with PRISMA guidelines conducted in July-September 2024. Scientific literature was obtained from SpringerLink, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases with inclusion criteria of full text, published < last 5 years, sample of adolescent girls, and experimental research using pre-posttest. A total of 10 scientific literatures were selected based on keywords in Indonesian and English, namely “Moringa leaves and anemia” OR “Moringa leaves and adolescent girls” OR “Moringa oleifera and adolescent girls” OR “Moringa leaves and hemoglobin” OR “Moringa oleifera and hemoglobin” OR “hemoglobin and adolescent girls”.Results: This study presents that consumption of Moringa leaf extract is proven to increase hemoglobin values in adolescent girls with the highest increase of +4,273 g/dl when consuming 500mg moringa capsules for 14 days. Meanwhile, the lowest increase in hemoglobin value was evident when consuming chicken dim sum made from moringa flour with an increase of 0,44 g/dl.Conclusion: Moringa leaf extract intervention is proven to increase hemoglobin values in adolescent girls. Hopefully, this research can be used as a guideline for making functional food innovations to prevent anemia.
