Abstract

Purpose – The issues of teacher facilities and abilities are still a learning obstacle in the pandemic era. Moreover, these issues lead to the non-uniformity of the learning process implementation in early childhood education in Aceh Jaya District. This study analyzes in-depth the reality of the learning process in early childhood education in the pandemic era. Design/methods/approach – This study was conducted using a descriptive qualitative method. The site for the study is in Ceudah Mulia Kindergarten, Teunom District, and Al-Hidayah Kindergarten, Pasie Raya District. Data collection methods were through observation, interviews, and documentation. Analysis of research data was using Miles and Huberman model. The validity tests for the data we are using triangulation of sources and techniques. Findings – The results showed that there was a difference between Ceudah Mulia Kindergarten and Al-Hidayah Kindergarten. Ceudah Mulia Kindergarten conducts online learning via WhatsApp by giving assignments and exciting games with parental guidance. Meanwhile, Al-Hidayah Kindergarten does not use social media platforms or other online learning methods due to various limitations, such as common understanding of technology, the availability of inadequate technology facilities owned by schools and parents of students. Al-Hidayah Kindergarten conducts learning by inviting parents and assigning assignments to students, and the children's work is returned to the school for assessment. However, the role of parents in synergizing with teachers during the learning process of early childhood students in the COVID-19 pandemic has become key. Research implications/limitations – This case study focuses on learning in early childhood education during the pandemic in two early childhood education institutions. The comparison of forms of early childhood learning during the pandemic is illustrated in early childhood education institutions. Practical implications – This case study demonstrated how the application of learning in early childhood education in early childhood education institutions is affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Originality/value – This paper contributes to knowledge and understanding of learning in early childhood education institutions affected by the COVID-19 pandemic so that stakeholders can formulate policies according to community needs. Abstract

The utilization of corn waste in education, particularly in early childhood education, offers various benefits, including the development of learning media. This study aims to analyze the use of corn waste in stimulating symbolic thinking skills in children aged 5-6 years. The research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. The subjects include children from group B and educators at TK Muslimat NU Siti Fatimah Bangkalan. Data collection techniques encompass passive participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data analysis follows the model developed by Miles and Huberman. The results indicate that symbolic thinking skills can be stimulated using magazines, posters, and educational toys. Additionally, corn waste media also stimulate children's symbolic thinking skills by utilizing corn kernels, husks, and cobs. This study provides an alternative child-friendly medium by leveraging natural resources such as corn to stimulate symbolic thinking in early childhood. Therefore, this research aids educators in developing affordable and environmentally friendly learning media. The use of corn waste not only offers a creative solution in learning but also supports environmental conservation efforts through the use of readily available natural materials. Using corn kernels, husks, and cobs as learning media demonstrates that materials often considered waste can have significant value in the educational context. Consequently, it is crucial for educators to continuously seek and develop innovative and sustainable learning media, harnessing the potential of local resources available in their surroundings.

Abstract

Misuh (swearing) is one of the identities of people in the world in general. Misuh culture is not only practiced by adults but also by children. This ethnographic study aims to explore the impact of misuh (swearing) culture on children's emotional development with parents who work as TKW (female workers). The research method uses a type of qualitative research with an ethnographic approach. The research subjects were 5 children who had the intensity of saying the word misuh most often in South Malang. Collecting research data by observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis was performed using code-based analysis and case-based analysis in Qualitative Data-Mining (QDM) at Child Welfare (CW). The results showed that the misuh words uttered by the participants were jancuk, bedhes, asu, kirek, taek, gendeng, kontol, and patek. Semantically, these words are a harsh and taboo language for the speech tradition. However, the purpose of using these words has different meanings depending on the speaker's context. The use of the misuh words (swear words) spoken by the participants can express the meaning of annoyance, cursing, greetings, patience, intimacy, strength, jokes, ridicule, and admiration. The purpose of these words is the expressions of both positive and negative emotions. Most of the participants showed more negative emotional expressions. This finding has implications for the emotional development of children.

Abstract

Background of the study: Parenting styles are deeply influenced by cultural values and traditions. Ethnoparenting refers to parenting practices rooted in local wisdom and passed down through generations, which significantly shape children's emotional development. In Madura, particularly in the Bangkalan area, parenting practices are strongly embedded in local traditions, which influence how children learn to manage and express their emotions. However, research on the impact of Madurese ethnoparenting on early childhood emotional development remains limited. Aims and scope of paper: This study explores how Madurese ethnoparenting stimulates the emotional development of young children. It seeks to identify traditional parenting values and practices that contribute to children's emotional intelligence, including empathy, self-confidence, and social skills. Methods: This research utilizes a qualitative approach using a case study method in several Madurese families that implement ethnoparenting. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The collected data was then analyzed to identify recurring themes and patterns in ethnoparenting practices. Results: Findings indicate that ethnoparenting in Madura significantly contributes to early childhood emotional development. The practices of loving discipline, learning through cultural traditions, and emphasizing community values help children develop emotional regulation, social adaptability, and self-confidence. Parents instil emotional resilience by teaching respect, responsibility, and empathy through everyday interactions and traditional customs. Contribution: This research highlights the importance of integrating local wisdom into parenting to foster children's emotional growth. It emphasizes that parents, educators, and the community should preserve and adapt cultural values to enhance emotional intelligence in early childhood. Understanding the role of ethnoparenting can help shape policies and programs that support culturally responsive child development practices.
