Abstract

English is the most important subject nowadays. There are some texts which have to be mastered by junior high school students. One of the them is the narrative text, a text that tells a story, in which the social functions are to inform, entertain, or amuse the readers. students have problems and difficulty reading comprehension of story texts. They found difficulties in finding information, main ideas or intentions of sentences in the text. Besides that, their lacking of vocabulary that students have, what is contained in the contents of the reading is  not conveyed to students, and students' interest and motivation towards learning English is lacking. The purpose of this research is to find out whether the Comic Strips has an effect or not siginificant reading comprehension. This research was conducted using quantitative methods. The research sample consisted of 20 students in class VIII-1 as the experimental class and 20 students in classVIII-2 as the control class. From the data that has been analyzed, the researcher found that the average result of the experimental class was 35 while the average result of the control class was 25. The results of calculations using the t test showed that t observed was higher than the t table (4.48 > 2.02) with df: 38 at the significance level a=0.025. So the alternative hypothesis (ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis is rejected. So it can be concluded that the Comic Strips in the improve reading comprehension learning process is effective to use.

Abstract

Many students have difficulty mastering vocabulary in English, including student have limited vocabulary and also having difficulty remembering unfamiliar vocabulary. The purpose of this research is to find out whether the Memrise application has an effect or not to mastering vocabulary. This research was conducted using quantitative methods. The research sample consisted of 20 students in class VII-1 as the experimental class and 20 students in class VII-2 as the control class. From the data that has been analyzed, the researcher found that the average result of the experimental class was 34 while the average result of the control class was 22. The results of calculations using the t test showed that t observed was higher than the t table (6.06 > 2.02) with df: 38 at the significance level a=0.025. So the alternative hypothesis (ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis is rejected. It can be concluded that the Memrise application in the vocabulary mastery learning process is effective to use.

Abstract

The waste problem is something that is very familiar, especially in Indonesia where a large population produces large volumes of waste. It is feared that the recent increasing use of plastic in daily life will have a bad impact, because plastic is non-organic waste that is difficult to decompose. Ecobricks are a technique for processing plastic waste which is converted into environmentally friendly materials or also called environmentally friendly bricks. The problem of plastic waste also occurs in Jaharun B Village, Galang District, Deli Serdang Regency, thus encouraging KKN students to recycle plastic waste through ecobric. This activity was carried out by KKN students at Al-Wasliyah Muslim Nusantara University with the aim of helping the community, especially the younger generation, in processing waste in facing the problem of inorganic waste in their environment into a new environmentally friendly material. This activity was carried out with the community, especially teenagers from Jaharun B Village, Galang District, Deli Serdang Regency on 20 July-1 August 2024. The results that will be obtained from implementing this ecobrick are that the people of Jaharun B Village, Galang District will have more in-depth knowledge about plastic, about its dangers. , the impact on the environment whether fast or slow, and how to overcome these problems.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of culturally responsive teaching on student participation and motivation in Social Science and Natural Science (IPAS) learning in fifth-grade students at SDN 060812 Medan. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) with 20 fifth-grade students as the subjects. The Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) for individual students in IPAS is 75, while the KKM for the class is 80%. Data were collected through student activity observation sheets, motivation questionnaires, and test results. Data analysis was performed using percentage techniques. The results of the study show a significant increase in student participation and motivation. In the first cycle, student participation reached 68.50% (good category), while student motivation was 70.25% (good category). In the second cycle, participation increased to 74.00% (good category), and student motivation reached 76.50% (good category). In the third cycle, a more significant improvement was observed, with student participation reaching 85.50% (very good category), and student motivation reaching 88.00% (very good category). Therefore, the implementation of culturally responsive teaching was proven effective in improving student participation and motivation in IPAS learning in fifth grade student at SDN 060812 Medan
