Abstract

The phenomenon of premarital relationships leading to unplanned pregnancies has become prevalent in societal environments. Such pregnancies often result in parental discontent, although instances of parental acceptance towards these pregnancies have been identified. This research aims to elucidate the influencing factors on parental self-acceptance and the stages of self-acceptance experienced by parents with unmarried pregnant daughters. Employing a qualitative approach, this study takes the form of a case study. Data collection utilized purposive sampling techniques with four key informants. The research revealed that the portrayal of self-acceptance among parents with unmarried pregnant daughters includes: 1) Embracing human nature, 2) Recognizing limitations, 3) Possessing self-tolerance, 4) Having the confidence to make decisions, 5) Holding firm convictions, and 6) Objectively accepting criticism. The process of self-acceptance unfolds through several stages, namely denial, anger, depression, and ultimately, acceptance. The attainment of self-acceptance in these four subjects is attributed to the accountability of the male counterpart and a genuine willingness to embrace fate as a reference point for personal improvement. Abstract

The large number of people with psychosocial disabilities, especially in Central Java Province, shows the importance of effective interventions to support the recovery process. One promising approach is positive affirmation training, which is designed to help individuals develop a more optimistic mindset and build self-confidence. Low self-confidence is often an obstacle for people with psychosocial disabilities to actively participate in society, so an approach that can overcome these obstacles is needed. The purpose of this community service is to teach positive affirmation techniques to members of the ODDP Sehati organization to be implemented in everyday life to support the self-confidence of psychosocial disabilities. The method used is a direct training method for members of the ODDP Sehati Sukoharjo organization. The results obtained after this training showed that intervention through positive affirmation training helped participants to be more self-accepting, reduce self-stigma, and strengthen positive views of personal abilities. This supports the importance of positive affirmation training as part of a psychosocial rehabilitation approach, because it can help individuals with psychosocial disabilities to be more confident and able to function optimally in everyday life.

Abstract

The past decade has shown the rapid development of digital media. Subtitling as a result of audio-visual translation (AVT) becomes a crucial part because it has to be able to provide the best subtitles for deaf and hard of hearing people. This descriptive qualitative study aims to examine the quality of subtitling for deaf and hard of hearing (SDH) of a subtitled movie entitled “The Three Little Pigs” by the students of English faculty in Surakarta city, Indonesia. Three raters are invited to contribute to assessing the quality of the subtitle. Concerning deaf and hard of hearing, the rater for readability aspect comes from the deaf person willing to contribute to the study. The finding of 72 data revealed that the quality of subtitling was accurate (51), acceptable (62), and less readable subtitling (49). The result can be helpful as a way of gaining accessibility and spreading the information to the DHH viewers. As the pedagogical implication of future work on translation, it can be used as a consideration to achieve the readability aspect more significantly, specifically, DHH readers or viewers.
