Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the application of the Guided-discovery learning model with a scientific approach assisted by GeoGebra software and student attitudes in learning mathematics on the topic of Geometry. This type of research is applied research. The population of this study were high school students and the sample of this study were students of class XII. The results of this study indicate that: the application of the Guided-discovery learning model with the scientific approach assisted by GeoGebra software on the topic of Geometry will be effective in teaching students, the application of the Guided-discovery learning model with the scientific approach assisted by GeoGebra software on the topic of Geometry will make students positive in learning mathematics

Abstract

Combinatorics is a branch of mathematics that is very important, but this topic has not received serious attention in educational research compared to other branches of mathematics such as geometry, calculus and algebra in Indonesia. Meanwhile, in secondary and undergraduate education, existing research reports that students’ combinatorial thinking ability tend to be low. Efforts to improve students’ combinatorial thinking ability in one of the Vocational Schools in Medan, Indonesia, are carried out through the development of the Numbered Heads Together (NHT). NHT is one cooperative learning structure. The result showed that NHT learning improved students’ combinatorial thinking ability.Keywords: combinatorics, combinatorial thinking ability, numbered heads together

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: 1) Menghasilkan perangkat pembelajaran yang berkualitas yang dikembangkan berdasarkan model Pembelajaran Penemuan Terbimbing dengan Konteks Budaya Batak Toba (PPT-KBBT) untuk kelas XI IPA SMA Negeri 1 Pagaran; 2) Menganalisis peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang dibelajarkan dengan menggunakan perangkat PPT-KBBT; 3) Menganalisis peningkatan self-efficacy matematis siswa yang dibelajarkan dengan menggunakan perangkat PPT-KBBT; 4) Menganalisis kesalahan jawaban siswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematis. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan dengan menggunakan model pengembangan Thiagarajan, Semmel dan Semmel (4D). Uji coba perangkat PPT-KBBT dilakukan sebanyak dua kali untuk memperoleh perangkat yang berkualitas. Uji coba yang pertama (Uji Coba 1) dilakukan di kelas XI IPA 2 dan uji coba yang kedua (Uji Coba 2) dilakukan di kelas XI IPA 3. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: 1) Perangkat PPT-KBBT yang berkualitas diperoleh pada Uji Coba 2; 2) Kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis yang dibelajarkan dengan menggunakan perangkat PPT-KBBT meningkat signifikan pada Uji Coba 2; 3) Self-efficacy Matematis siswa yang dibelajarkan dengan perangkat PPT-KBBT meningkat signifikan pada Uji Coba 2; 4) Ditinjau dari Newman Error Analysis, kesalahan siswa pada aspek pemahaman 33,33 %; aspek transformasi 22,76 %; aspek keterampilan proses 20,33 %; dan aspek kemampuan mengkoding 23,58 %. Pada aspek kemampuan membaca, siswa tidak menunjukkan kesulitan atau kesalahan. Kesalahan matematis siswa terjadi oleh karena siswa tidak dapat menyerap informasi dengan baik, siswa tidak terbiasa menuliskan rencana penyelesaian masalah dengan menggunakan kata-kata sendiri, kurangnya pengalaman siswa berhadapan dengan masalah matematis, kurangnya penguasaan atas materi prasyarat, dan ketidaktelitian siswa dalam melakukan perhitungan dan menyimpulkan solusi dari masalah matematis.Kata Kunci: etnomatematika, kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis, penemuan terbimbing, self-efficacy matematis.

Abstract

Rendahnya prestasi dan motivasi merupakan masalah yang sering dihadapi di bidang pendidikan Matematika. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi bagaimana mahasiswa calon guru Matematika dalam mendapatkan titik pangkal atau titik balik sehingga terinspirasi untuk belajar Matematika. Temuan penelitian ini diharapkan dapat membantu penyelesaian masalah rendahya prestasi dan motivasi tersebut. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan studi kasus kualitatif. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa pendidikan Matematika dengan kriteria tertentu. Hasil penelitian berdasarkan wawancara dan formulir menunjukkan bahwa inspirasi muncul ketika: siswa berkesempatan belajar dengan guru yang cakap dalam menjelaskan, penyabar, bersahabat dengan siswa, humoris, senang memberikan pujian dan hadiah ketika mendapat prestasi; timbul kesadaran dalam diri siswa bahwa siswa tersebut cakap dalam Matematika; muncul persepsi dalam diri siswa bahwa Matematika itu menantang; siswa menemukan sosok motivator dan panutan untuk belajar Matematika. Sumber-sumber inspirasi tersebut terkait erat dengan sumber-sumber efikasi diri. Kepada para pendidik diharapkan untuk mengintegrasikan sumber-sumber inspirasi tersebut dalam pembelajaran Matematika.

Abstract

Abstrak. Inspirasi berperan penting dalam memicu atau meningkatkan minat belajar. Inspirasi tersebut juga akan membentuk identitas matematis Calon Guru Matematika (CGM) setelah bekerja sebagai guru matematika profesional di masa depan. Pendidik Guru Matematika (PGM) dapat menjadi sumber inspirasi bagi CGM, sehingga penelitian untuk memahami dan menjelaskan profil PGM yang menginspirasi adalah kebutuhan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan teoritisasi profil PGM yang menginspirasi berdasarkan pengalaman CGM. Penelitian kualitatif ini menggunakan pendekatan constructivist grounded theory dengan melibatkan 21 mahasiswa Pendidikan Matematika semester II-XIII. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa PGM yang menginspirasi memiliki profil: memberikan rasa nyaman, berwawasan luas, memotivasi, memberikan pembelajaran yang asyik dan menyenangkan, memberikan wawasan baru dan pemahaman, disiplin dan berwibawa. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman adalah aspek yang paling dibutuhkan oleh CGM.  Kualitas kepribadian, kemampuan pedagogis dan matematis serta hubungan baik yang dibina PGM mengoptimalkan pemahaman sehingga CGM terinspirasi.Kata Kunci: calon guru matematika, constructivist grounded theory, profil pendidik matematika, pedagogi inspirasi, guru inspiratif.

Abstract

This study aims to determine student learning outcomes by using a project-based learning model. One learning model that can improve student learning outcomes with teaching performance can use project-based learning. The research method uses pre-experimental with a one-shot case study design. The determination of the sample used a purposive sampling method with 29 students in the English for mathematics class at the Borneo University of Tarakan. The data collection used the post-test instrument which was then analyzed using the one-sample t-test. The results of the analysis show 7,489 > 4,060, with a sig. 0.001 < 0.05, it can be concluded that there are significant differences in student English for mathematics achievement using project-based learning (PBL). The results showed that there was an effect of the project-based learning model on student achievement in English for mathematics classes at Borneo Tarakan University.

Abstract

Mathematics remediation (MR) is crucial in higher education, serving as a cornerstone to prepare under-equipped students. However, numerous Mathematics Education students in one of the public universities in Indonesia have repeatedly failed in this program. Failure experiences have an essential role in pre-service mathematics teachers' personal and professional development. While some research has explored the students' failure experiences, a significant gap exists in exploring the perception of repeatedly failed students in MR. Our qualitative narrative case study delves into the perceptions of repeatedly failing students regarding the MR and their failures. Five themes emerged through analysis of reflective writing and interview data: perceptions of mathematics and its learning, perspectives on the MR program, attitudes toward failure, factors contributing to participant failures, and expectations for MR program development. This study provides valuable insights to enhance the effectiveness of MR, shedding light on the intricate dynamics surrounding students' experiences with the program.

Abstract

Investigating the experiences of mathematics education students who have faced academic challenges is vital for shaping the professional development of future mathematics educators. This study examines the experiences of Indonesian mathematics education students who have encountered difficulties in a Preparatory Mathematics Course (PMC). Employing a qualitative case study narrative approach, we explore these students’ perceptions, emphasizing the crucial role of foundational mathematics skills and the potential of PMC in aiding underprepared learners. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The findings reveal varied perspectives on the course's value. Some students recognized its significance and contribution to their university studies, particularly in mathematics content courses, while others viewed it as less impactful. Factors contributing to student failures included a lack of focus and dedication, carelessness in test assessments, and discrepancies between expected and actual learning experiences. Additionally, participants provided constructive suggestions for improving the course, such as integrating collaborative learning, enhancing assignments and assessments, incorporating instructional videos, offering in-person learning opportunities, adjusting schedules, and facilitating anonymous online discussion forums. These insights offer valuable directions for refining PMC and improving outcomes for mathematics students and educators.

Abstract

Inspiration plays a significant role in sparking or enhancing the learning motivation of prospective mathematics teachers (PMTs). Inspiration will also influence the mathematical identity of PMTs’ when they become professional mathematics teachers. A mathematics teacher educator (MTE) can be a source of inspiration for PMTs; hence, a study must identify and explain why an MTE is considered inspiring. This study attempts to develop the theory of inspiring MTEs profiles based on the experience of PMTs. This study included 21 students and 7 lecturers of the Mathematics Education Department in a public university in Indonesia. This qualitative research was conducted employing a grounded theory constructivist approach. The findings revealed that inspiring MTEs possessed the following characteristics: “creating a sense of comfort, being knowledgeable, being motivating, providing fun and enjoyable learning, imparting new insights and comprehension, and being disciplined and authoritative.” According to this theory, an inspiring MTE creates a sense of comfort through their gracious, friendly, humble, and humorous personality. Fun and enjoyable learning in this study is learning that provide a sense of comfort, fun learning, interactive learning, and carrying out evaluations. MTEs give new insight and understanding by explaining in detail, systematically, and easily understood, sharing creative ideas, and providing scaffolding. Implications of this finding are discussed.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) on mathematical creativity among 96 seventh-grade students in North Kalimantan. Using an embedded experimental design, students were assigned to an experimental group (RME) and a control group (conventional teaching), each consisting of 32 students. The pretest and posttest showed a significant increase in mathematical creativity in both groups, with a greater increase in the RME group. Interviews indicated that RME positively impacted students' mathematical self-efficacy, proficiency in fractions, and enjoyment of learning. Students also favored teaching on the blackboard and mathematics games, which increased their interest. These findings confirm the effectiveness of RME in enhancing mathematical creativity and suggest further exploration of diverse learning media and icebreakers. This study highlights the potential of RME to foster creativity and recommends its integration into the mathematics curriculum.
