Abstract

This research was conducted in order to find out the jargons that exist in Balinese traditional weaving community. This research was designed in the form of descriptive qualitative study. The method used in this study were conducting observation and interview. Observation was done in order to observe the condition and jargons used in the weaving process. Meanwhile, interview was done by interviewing three informants and the purpose of the interview was to find out all of the jargons used in this community. The results showed that there were forty-one jargons found in traditional weaving. These jargons were distinguished into three type. Based on the process of producing kambeng songket, there were twelve jargons found. Related to the name of tools and ingredient, there were twenty-three jargons found. Lastly, there were six jargons concerned with naming the motif. All of the jargons have their own meaning used by the weavers in order to communicate each other. This research also helped to document the jargons that exist in Balinese traditional weaving community.

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out teaching strategies used by English teachers in an online learning. The subject of this study is English teachers at SMP Negeri 6 Singaraja. This study was qualitative research which uses a case study research design. The methods of data collection were observation and interview. This study used three instruments such as observation checklist, questionnaire, and interview guide. The findings showed that English teachers at SMP Negeri 6 Singaraja used learning by doing and learning by reflection in the online learning. Four English teachers were considering about aspects of learning by doing and learning by reflection. Besides, during the online learning, it was found five obstacles. The English teachers were also provided the solutions for the obstacles.

Abstract

This paper aims to recognize the types of code-mixing and factors influencing code-mixing by Twitter users. This study uses a descriptive qualitative research design. The subject of this study is Twitter users who post tweets that contained code-mixing. The researcher uses documentation and interview as data collection methods. The data for identifying the types of code-mixing were collected by documenting the tweets posted previously by Twitter users on the Twitter platform. The interview guide was used to ask questions to respondents about the factors influencing the use of code-mixing in communication as language style.  The data were analyzed through three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion: verifying. The data collected from documentation and interview showed that insertion code-mixing became the dominant type used among Twitter users. It is influenced by several factors from within of language speaker and external factors.

Abstract

The study aims to analyze students e-learning readiness which used a mixed-method research design. There were 30 students as the subject of this study. The reliability of this research was 0.70. This study used  an online learning readiness questionnaire. For questionnaire responses, the researcher used Aydin and Tasci’s readiness measurement model to know the score of  students’ e-learning readiness. Besides that, Interview guide. The interview responses were analyzed using Interactive Model Analysis. Therefore, the students e-learning score was  Mo = 3.76. The interview result showed the availability of media and the flexibility of e-leaning as the supporting factor, while the facilities in e-learning as the limiting factor. It can be concluded that  students e-learning readiness is ready buy still need improvement on technology readiness, people readiness, innovation readiness, and self-development readiness This research was rewarding to comprehend students’ e-learning readiness as well as supporting an limiting  in  implementing e-learning in remote teaching. Several recommendations are proposed for vocational school are infrastructure provision in e-learning and socialization to use e-learning.

Abstract

People rarely know the function of the language used in the film. This study analyzes speech acts in a dialogue film entitled Merry Riana: Dreams of a Million Dollars. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. Data were analyzed from the form of speech acts consisting of direct and indirect speech acts in the form of declarative, imperative, and interrogative. The type of speech act analysis uses Searle's theory of representative, directive, commissive, expressive, and declaration. The result of this research is that direct speech act in interrogative form is 43.63%. Direct speech acts in the declarative form are 95 (43.18%), direct speech acts in the imperative form are 24 (10.90%), indirect speech acts in the imperative form are 2 (0.9%), indirect speech acts in imperative form as much as 2 (0.9%). interrogative form is 2 (0.9%), and indirect speech act in declarative form is 1 (0.45%). Furthermore, 74 utterances are analyzed into five types of speech acts. The most dominant representative used 36 (48.6%). Then followed by directive 21 (28.3%), expressive 14 (18.9%), commissive 3 (4.0%), and declarative 0 (0.0%). This research implies that understanding speech acts plays an important role in communication.

Abstract

Keberhasilan penerapan e-learning dipengaruhi oleh beberapa factor. Salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi keberhasilan penerapan e-learning adalah kesiapan penerapan e-learning. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesiapan e-learning siswa serta faktor pendukung dan pembatas dalam penerapan e-learning. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian mix-method yaitu Explanatory Sequential Design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 130 orang. Penentuan sampel menggunakan teknik random sampling, sehingga diperoleh sampel penelitian sebanyak 30 orang. Data diperoleh dengan menggunakan angket kesiapan belajar online dan pedoman wawancara. Data kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis statistik deskriptif dan model analisis interaktif dari Miles & Huberman. Hasil skor kesiapan e-learning siswa adalah 3,70. Hasil wawancara menunjukkan faktor pendukung dalam penerapan e-learning adalah data internet gratis, e-learning fleksibel, dan media pembelajaran. Faktor pembatasnya adalah fasilitas dalam e-learning. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa kesiapan e-learning siswa di SMA tergolong siap tetapi perlu beberapa perbaikan dan beberapa faktor yang harus menjadi fokus perbaikan, antara lain faktor teknologi, manusia, inovasi, dan pengembangan diri untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran. belajar dengan menggunakan e-learning.

Abstract

Language is a system that mediates and types of vocalizations used by a community to communicate to understand each other. Language also has many varieties. This diversity is influenced by many factors, such as being influenced by a known place by age, gender, social status, and type of work. One variety of language is jargon. This study aims to analyze the jargon of meaning used by the people of Tenganan Village in weaving grinning. The design of this research is a qualitative descriptive design. The method used is observation and interviews. The observation method was carried out to observe the state of Tenganan village. The interview method was conducted to interview two weavers in Tenganan village to provide information regarding the jargon they use. The results showed that Tenganan Village people used fifty-six jargon to bring weaving. Based on fifty-six jargon, they are categorized into four types. The first type is jargon based on yarn processing, consisting of twenty jargon. The second type is jargon based on the weaving process, which finds three jargon. The third type is jargon based on naming tools and materials that find fifteen jargon. The fourth type is jargon based on the naming of eighteen motifs. Each jargon has a meaning that is used to facilitate communication between weavers in producing grinding weaving.

Abstract

The process of English Learning before and during Covid-19 pandemic is very difference. The learning process which is conducted at school has changed into distance learning process. All schools are required to implement e-learning to support the distance learning process. This study was aimed at analyzing students’ e-learning readiness toward the implementation of e-learning at SMK Negeri 1 Kubutambahan. A mixed-method research design utilizing concurrent embedded model which is a quantitative method as a primer method was employed in this study. A questionnaire of students’ e-learning readiness and an observation sheet were used to collect the data. The obtained data were then analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The result of the study showed that the readiness of SMK Negeri 1 Kubutambahan students in using e-learning in the context of distance learning is classified on ready category which still needs some improvement. From the four aspects of readiness assessed, there is one aspect that belongs to unready category that requires a little improvement, namely the technological aspect. Meanwhile, the other three aspects, namely aspects of innovation, people, and self-development belong to the ready category which requires a little improvement in its implementation.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the anxiety level of the students and teachers in teaching and learning English during the emergency remote teaching in Indonesia. This quantitative study used Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) for collecting the students and teachers’ anxiety levels during the pandemic situation. The participants of the study were 199 students and 3 English teachers in a senior high school in Indonesia. The study found that the students’ anxiety level was moderate (3.04). It indicated that the students were not afraid but also did not fully enjoy learning English with the new learning system. Meanwhile, the teachers’ anxiety was categorized as low anxiety (2.2), meaning that the teachers enjoyed and did not worry about teaching English during the emergency remote teaching. In conclusion, new learning environment for EFL, the students and teachers had different anxiety levels with students needed more attentions for better assistance of optimal learning quality. The results of this study were expected to give beneficial information for the students and teachers that learn and teach English during the pandemic situation.
