Abstract

The lecturers are supposed to increase their English competence which is indicated by their TOEFL scores. This research is aimed to know the measurement of English skills toward the non-English lecturers from different background by joining the TOEFL training and test. There are twenty selected-lecturers to join it at one of Private colleges around Jakarta and due the requirement of lecturers’ certification. It has Listening, Structure-Written Expression, and Reading Comprehension. The research form is done by providing a field research; by two matters of obtaining the data, they are: by using written test and giving observation. While for the assessment, it has two steps; the first is providing the lecturers to do the pretest which purposes to know the current level of TOEFL mastery and the second is giving the post-test, which reflects to know the final comprehension after joining the TOEFL training. Before it, the lecturers have the opportunity to have the TOEFL training for about two months intensively, thrice of sessions within a week. The result, mostly, the lecturers have the predicate of Beginner in achieving their TOEFL final score through the training. The mean score points out 421. Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh perhatian orang tua terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris dan pengaruh motivasi belajar terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris. Selanjutnya untuk mengetahui pengaruh perhatian orang tua dan motivasi belajar secara bersama-sama terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Madrasah Tsanawiah Negeri di Jakarta Timur pada semester II, tepatnya pada bulan Maret-Juli 2017. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: 1.) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan perhatian orang tua dan motivasi belajar secara bersama-sama terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris siswa di MTsN 18 Jakarta Timur, dibuktikan dengan nilai Sig = 0,000 < 0,05. 2.) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan perhatian orang tua terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris, dibuktikan dengan nilai Sig = 0,001 < 0,05 dan t hitung = 3,380. 3.) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan motivasi belajar terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris, dibuktikan dengan nilai Sig = 0,004 < 0,05 dan t hitung = 3,064. Perhatian orang tua dan motivasi belajar berpengaruh signifikan terhadap prestasi belajar.

Abstract

Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh lingkungan terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris dan pengaruh motivasi belajar terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris. Selanjutnya untuk mengetahui pengaruh lingkungan dan motivasi belajar secara bersama-sama terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMK Ganesha pada bulan Januari-April 2019. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: 1.) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan lingkungan dan motivasi belajar secara bersama-sama terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris siswa di SMK Ganesha, dibuktikan dengan nilai Sig = 0,000 < 0,05. 2.) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan lingkungan terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris, dibuktikan dengan nilai Sig = 0,000 < 0,05. 3.) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan motivasi belajar terhadap prestasi belajar bahasa Inggris, dibuktikan dengan nilai Sig = 0,004 < 0,05. Lingkungan dan motivasi belajar berpengaruh signifikan terhadap prestasi belajar.

Abstract

In the development of technology, all aspects experience the same development, including literature. Technology had greatly influenced the production and reception of literature. Changes in literary works by utilizing current technological media can also be called cyber literature. However, the ease of technology might lead problems. The teacher who would use cyber literature as learning material took it without any guideline on what is the value that existed in the cyberliterature. So that this study aimed to analyze character education that appears in folklore cyber literature in Indonesia. The results of this study will be a guide for high school English teachers in choosing what characters to use in narrative learning using folklore. The approach used in this research was a descriptive qualitative approach. The data source of this research was cyber literature in the form of folklore. The selection of the title of folklore in Indonesia was based on the results of a poll from the SINDO newspaper which found that there were 10 popular folk tales. The result of the study showed that from 10 the most popular folklore in the internet, 6 out of 18 characters existed in the story. They were Responsible, hard work, honesty, self-reliance, creative, and love country. Even though, the value mostly based on the protagonist of the story, we could also see the contra value that promoted by the antagonist, such as dishonesty..

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the effectiveness of YouTube as an electronic learning resource in English writing learning. An exploratory mixed method was used in this study. Research instruments included tests, observations and questionnaires. The participants in this study were all third-semester English majors at Bina Sarana Informatika University in Jakarta. The participants were 100 students that were taken randomly. The researcher collected the data from September until December 2021. The result of the English essay writing test was analyzed by using a t-test. The observation was be done during the learning process and the questionnaire used to get students' input about the effectiveness of YouTube as an e-resource.    The results of the study concluded that YouTube as an e-resource has a positive impact on the ability to write English essays. The test results before and after implementing YouTube as an e-resource were t-stat (8.76) t-table (2.022), which means Ho was rejected and H1 was accepted. While the Pearson correlation was 0.732. Students also gave a positive view of the use of YouTube during essay writing activities. This can be seen in the average value which was dominated by strongly agreed answers. This study concluded that learning resources for writing should be presented as learning resources that involve audio-visual and interesting so that story ideas can be developed.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the symptoms of stage fright in students in English public speaking classes. The study approach uses a qualitative survey consisting of four open-ended questions. The data in this study were taken through direct observation of English public speaking classes, document reports on the progress of students learning public speaking from the teacher and interviews. The data analysis procedure was carried out in three stages, including 1) data reduction, which is the process of collecting data according to the focus of the research, 2) presenting data through the process of categorizing data, classifying and analyzing the process, and 3) drawing conclusions to find out the results. solving research problems. The results of the data analysis concluded that there were two general symptoms associated with student stage fright during public speaking class practice, namely physiological symptoms and cognitive symptoms. Thus, the teacher should be able to direct students to apply strategies to overcome speaking anxiety such as increasing preparation and practice. These findings have implications for teachers' understanding of the concept of the importance of understanding the character of students' anxiety in practicing English public speaking in class, so that teachers can choose learning methods or techniques that are appropriate to students' anxiety levels

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to analyze and identify the effect of the service quality and satisfaction variables toward customer loyalty. the data collection method used in this researchi uses the survey method with questionnaires. This research population is the customers of Indosat Unlimited in Depok. From the results of the analysis, it shows that the service quality significantly influences the customer loyalty, proven by the t significant value of 0.000 smaller that α 0.05 with the coefficient of 2.537. Quality of service has a significant effect on the customer loyalty ishown by the t significant value 0.000 less than 0.05. service quality and satisfaction significantly influence the customer loyalty shown by F value of 0.000 smaller than 0.05 and are able contribute to the customer loyalty variables of 0.504 or 51.7%. the remaining 48.3% is influenced by other variables that are not analized in this research.

Abstract

    Abstract  The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of fiction  novel texts in improving students' English reading comprehension skills. This study used an experimental approach using a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The sample of this research was postgraduate students of the English Education Study Program, at Indraprastha University, Jakarta. There were 50 students involved in the research process. The process of collecting data using tests and observations. The data that has been obtained will be tested for its normality level using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and the data homogeneity test using the Analysis of Variance test with a confidence level = 0.05. Data that has been declared normal and homogeneous is then processed using a two-sample paired t-test for the average. The results showed that t stat < t-table (-28.767 < 2.0638). This means that novel texts have a positive influence on students' English reading comprehension and that for literal, inferential and critical understanding. This finding has implications for lecturers that the learning resources provided by the problems faced can have a good impact on student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the students’ perceptions towards Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) during online learning of the pandemic outbreak in Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika. This research used qualitative descriptive method. The researchers gave several questions in the form of questionnaire through google form. Seventy students from different major and status (graduated and not graduated yet) in Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika were chosen as participants. The data were gathered through questionnaires. There were ten questionnaires regarding to students’ perception of the given policy to the participants; and three questionnaires regarding to improve TOEFL competence skill. The result shows that 70,4% of participants prefer to choose Computer Based Test, and 45,1% of participants study TOEFL mainly to have Scholarship. Related to the most difficult part of TOEFL test, there are 36,6% of participants percept Listening Comprehension. Furthermore, in improving TOEFL competence, 43,7% of participants mostly like to watching movie. It indicates that most of the participants considered TOEFL as an essential thing to scale their English proficiency test and as the difficult test in English Proficiency. Furthermore, from the findings, it can also be seen that the challenges and gains encountered by the students are varied.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman melalui program Ekstensif Literasi Teks Sastra dengan menggunakan metode campuran. Peserta penelitian adalah mahasiswa semester 5 yang mendapat mata kuliah (2) membaca ekstensif pada tahun akademik 2020-2021 di Universitas Bina Sarana. Informatika Jakarta sebanyak 70 mahasiswa. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini ada dua, yaitu 1) data kualitatif diambil dengan menggunakan kuesioner. Data kualitatif dianalisis dengan menggunakan transkripsi dan kode, diorganisasikan, dikategorikan, dan diambil kesimpulan. 2) Data kuantitatif diambil dari pre-test dan post-test. Data tes dianalisis menggunakan uji-t. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara keseluruhan Program Ekstensif Literasi Teks Sastra dengan teks sastra berdampak pada peningkatan pemahaman membaca bahasa Inggris. Siswa juga memiliki persepsi yang positif terhadap Program Ekstensif Literasi Teks Sastra karena dapat membangun minat baca dan kebiasaan membaca.
