Abstract

Previous studies on financial distress in Islamic banking have tended to use broad samples. In contrast, this research specifically analyses the potential for financial distress at Bank Muamalat Indonesia, a leading Islamic bank which has recently undergone restructuring. The main objective is to examine how four financial ratios — Return on Assets (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), Operational Costs to Operating Income (BOPO) and Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR) influence the bank's financial distress. Additionally, the Springate Model is applied to predict the bank's financial distress during the period from 2016 to 2022, providing dual validation for the findings. A descriptive quantitative methodology was employed, with data sourced from Bank Muamalat Indonesia's quarterly financial statements. Multiple regression analysis indicates that the four financial ratios have no significant effect on financial distress, either partially or simultaneously (p-value > 0.05). Furthermore, analysis using the Springate Model is consistent with these findings. During the observation period, Bank Muamalat Indonesia's S-score consistently remained above 0.862, indicating healthy and stable financial conditions and suggesting that the bank is not predicted to experience financial distress

They reveal that authentic assessment (1) motivates them to develop a reading routine so that they can learn more vocabulary and become more comfortable with English discourse, (2) aims to train them to exemplify their reading comprehension in more constructively such as writing reviews, presentations, and discussions, and (3) assists them in evaluating their own reading performance. In conclusion, most students admit that authentic assessment aids them in enjoying reading through a series of social practices, in this case, the use of authentic assessment components such as portfolios, performance assessment, and self-assessment.

Abstract

Social inequality and poverty remain persistent issues in Indonesia, with over 25.89 million people affected. While formal zakat institutions are widely recognized, this study explores the Kamrat Kifayah, a grassroots, community-driven initiative in Larangan Luar Pamekasan Madura, that has operated since the 1970s without formal legal status. Rooted in social capital and Islamic values, Kamrat Kifaya organizes regular religious gatherings (e.g., Yasin recitations and tahlil) and collects Zakat, Infaq, and Sadaqah (ZIS) to support bereaved families. Using a qualitative case study approach, this research collected data through interviews with Kamrat leaders and members, as well as field observations and documentation analysis. The findings reveal Kamrat Kifaya’s significant contribution to social solidarity and informal safety nets. The SWOT analysis shows strengths in longevity and trust, with social acceptance across diverse groups; weaknesses in limited ZIS allocation (primarily for death-related needs); opportunities in fund diversification for small businesses; and threats in conventional management methods. This study highlights the potential of integrating local wisdom-based ZIS models with broader Islamic economic frameworks. It contributes to the discourse on community-based philanthropy and offers a practical alternative for inclusive ZIS empowerment in rural Muslim societies.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the business development and growth trajectory of the Arrum Haji product at the Pegadaian Syariah Sumenep Branch Office. Employing a qualitative research design, data were gathered through comprehensive observation, in-depth interviews, and meticulous documentation. The analytical framework involved data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with methodological triangulation utilized to ensure data validity. The findings reveal a consistent upward trend in the overall performance of the Sumenep Branch from 2019 to 2023. Specifically, the customer base expanded from 46,633 to 48,092, while the annual turnover surged from IDR 523,037,920,000 to IDR 595,126,415,270, representing a significant 115% growth. Regarding the Arrum Haji product, the branch successfully acquired 50 customers during the same period. Despite the steady progress, the penetration rate for Arrum Haji remains relatively modest. This limited adoption is primarily attributed to the product’s nascent stage in the market. This research provides strategic insights into the early-stage adoption of Sharia-compliant pilgrimage financing within the pawnshop industry.

Abstract

This journal article discusses the distinction between bid'ah (innovation) and local culture from the perspective of the Qur'an and Sunnah. This study was motivated by the interaction between Islam and various local cultures, which often raises questions about their compatibility with Islamic teachings, where there are concerns that local traditions may obscure the purity of the teachings. The method used is qualitative with a thematic (maudhu'i) analysis approach to verses of the Qur'an and Hadith, as well as a literature study of the views of scholars. This study finds that bid'ah, which is essentially an innovation in worship that has no shar'i basis, is firmly rejected based on the principle of the perfection of Islam. Meanwhile, local culture ('urf) can be accommodated as long as it does not conflict with the principles of tawhid, sharia values, and qath'i arguments, and contains benefits. The distinction between bid'ah and tradition is not just a matter of terminology, but concerns a way of religious thinking that determines whether the ummah will be inclusive or exclusive towards social reality. By examining the arguments from the Qur'an and Hadith and understanding maq??id al-syar?‘ah, it appears that cultural innovations can be accepted in Islam if they fulfill the conditions of maslahat and do not violate sharia.

Abstract

This study examines the role of Islamic social entrepreneurship in reinventing pesantren-based economies as a sustainable model for community transformation within the broader discourse of inclusive and ethical development. Employing a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation at Pondok Pesantren Al-Amien Prenduan, Indonesia. The findings demonstrate that the implementation of Islamic social entrepreneurship through the Micro Waqf Bank (BWM) Al-Pend Barokah Mandiri significantly contributes to economic empowerment among productive low-income communities. Beyond local impact, this pesantren-based model addresses global challenges related to financial inclusion, social inequality, and sustainable development by embedding Islamic ethical values within entrepreneurial practices. The study contributes to the literature by conceptualizing pesantren not merely as religious institutions but as transformative socio-economic actors capable of driving inclusive growth. This research proposes pesantren-based Islamic social entrepreneurship as a viable alternative framework for sustainable community transformation in emerging Muslim economies.
