Abstract

ABSTRACT The prevalence of worms in Indonesia itself varies between 2.5% - 62% and can occur at any age in Indonesia ranging from 40% - 60%. The use of chemical drugs in controlling worms for a long time will also cause side effects on the body, so we can reduce it by using traditional plants, namely torch ginger. Torch ginger (Etlingera elatior Jack.) is a plant from the Zingiberaceae family and is commonly used by the community for food and traditional medicine. Torch ginger contains flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and alkaloids that can provide anthelmintic effects. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of torch ginger fruit extract as an anthelmintic on earthworms by determining the LC50 and LT50 values and to determine the effect of increasing the concentration of fruit extract on the number of worm deaths. The research method was an experimental laboratory. organoleptic tests on torch ginger fruit showed that it contained flavonoids, saponins and tannins; Meanwhile, analysis with one-way ANOVA showed that the P value = 0.000 (P 0.05) means that there is a significant difference in the treatment with concentration and for the results that show that each concentration of extract, the higher the concentration, the faster the number and time of worm death. that 70% ethanol extract of torch ginger fruit can be used as an alternative anthelmintic treatment, by providing an LC50 value of 2.295 mg / mL for the fruit, which means that the concentration value is needed to kill 50% of worms; for the LT50 results, the time needed for the ethanol extract to kill 50% of worms is 108.502 minutes. Keywords: Torch Ginger, Worms, Fruit, LC50, LT50.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a major public health problem in tropical countries, including Indonesia, with its incidence closely related to inadequate knowledge and preventive practices at the household level. The 3M strategy (draining, covering, and burying) is a key preventive approach that requires active parental involvement. This study aimed to determine the effect of 3M educational intervention on parents’ knowledge in preventing DHF. A quantitative study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted. The sample consisted of 52 parents selected using total sampling. Data were collected using a structured knowledge questionnaire administered before and after the 3M educational intervention, conducted from January to March 2024 in the working area of Ardimulyo Public Health Center. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test. The results showed a significant increase in parents’ knowledge levels after the intervention, with a marked rise in the proportion of respondents classified as having good knowledge. Statistical analysis revealed a p-value < 0.05, indicating a significant effect of the 3M educational intervention on parents’ knowledge. In conclusion, 3M education effectively improves parents’ knowledge in preventing DHF. Continuous and structured health education programs are recommended as sustainable preventive strategies to reduce DHF incidence at the community level.
