Abstract

Abstract

In shrimp farming, feeding is an important activity to achieve good shrimp growth. Manual feeding manually using hand is less effective due to unequal food distribution. Thus, an automatic feeder is required to dispense feed at predetermined time. The advantages of automatic feeder are cost-effective, low labour requirement, and can be applicable for large volumes of feed. Design of automatic feeder machine can influence the capacity and time controlling of the feeder. In this research, the automatic feeder was designed using a controlling time system based on Internet of Things (IoT) technology. During plant trial, The automatic feeding was scheduled at 7 am, 11 am, 4 pm, and 8 pm. This machine could throw shrimp food homogeneously up to 10 m far for 2,500 m2 pond area. In shrimp farming, distribution of shrimp food in predetermined time becomes an important rule to achieve good shrimp growth.

Abstract

Male tilapia fish grow faster than female tilapia, so administering synthetic steroids orally or by soaking has proven to be the simplest, easiest, most effective and reliable technology for sex reversal of tilapia larvae to become males. This research was conducted to analyze the administration of 17α- methyltestosterone on the growth rate and feed conversion of tilapia (O.niloticus). This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 3 treatments and 4 replications. The optimum dose used is (60) mg/kg feed, and 0.5 ml/l. The results of this study showed that body weight gain with oral treatment had the best average, namely 226.83c ± 11.88; average length 12.79b ± 0.99, specific growth rate (SGR) 5.46c ± 0.06 and FCR namely 1.05a ± 0.06. Research on the effect of using 17α-methyltestosterone on the growth of oral male tilapia fish obtained the best results by not exceeding the residue limit (5 µg/L or 5 µg/kg) of synthetic steroids in the body of tilapia fish.

Abstract

Aeromonas salmonicida is a major fish pathogenic bacterium responsible for significant losses in aquaculture. The growing concern over antibiotic resistance has driven interest in plant-based antibacterial alternatives. This study examined the extraction yield, phytochemical characteristics, and in vitro antibacterial activity of ethanolic extracts obtained from the rhizomes of Curcuma longa and Curcuma zedoaria against Aeromonas salmonicida. Extraction was conducted using an ethanol-based maceration technique. Qualitative phytochemical screening was subsequently performed, and antibacterial activity was evaluated through the disc diffusion assay at extract concentrations ranging from 10% to 100%. The results showed that C. longa produced a higher extraction yield (7.18%) than C. zedoaria (3.19%). Both extracts contained flavonoids, total phenolics, alkaloids, and tannins, while saponins were not detected. Antibacterial activity against A. salmonicida increased with extract concentration, reaching maximum inhibition at 100%, with zone diameters of 12.97 ± 0.57 mm (C. longa) and 12.17 ± 0.61 mm (C. zedoaria). Significant differences were observed among concentration treatments. In conclusion, ethanolic extracts of Curcuma longa and Curcuma zedoaria demonstrate promising plant-based antibacterial activity against A. salmonicida in vitro, supporting their potential use in aquaculture health management. Nevertheless, further in vivo studies and toxicity evaluations are required before practical application.
