Abstract

Antioxidants are compounds that provide electrons; they function by donating an electron to oxidizing compounds, thereby inhibiting the activity of these oxidants. The objective of this study is to ascertain the presence of secondary metabolites and evaluate the antioxidant properties of water and methanol extracts obtained from black turmeric (C. caesia). The determination of antioxidant activity was conducted using the DPPH method with a microplate reader at a wavelength of 520 nm, by calculating the IC50 value. The research findings indicate that both water and methanol extracts contain flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. The antioxidant activity of the water extract measured at 392.47 ± 46.38 ppm (weaker), the methanol extract displayed a higher activity at 69.66 ± 2.91 ppm (strong), and Vitamin C exhibited very strong activity at 3.98 ± 0.26 ppm.

Abstract

Abstract

Pegagan leaves (Centella asiatica L.) are reported to have potential as an anti-oxidant, anti-microbial agent, collagen synthesizing agent, and wound healing agent. Pegagan has components namely triterpenoids and essential oils. Triterpenoids can help wound healing, increase anti-oxidant levels, and increase blood supply to the wound area. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the level of wound healing between mice given a gel preparation from ethanol extract of gotu kola leaves, untreated mice and with povidone iodine. Assessment of wound healing was done by macroscopic observation by comparing wound healing between negative control, positive control, 5% formula, 10% for-mula, and 15% formula. The sig value on day 3 was 0.082, day 5 was 0.052, day 7 was 0.240 showing p>0.05 so it can be concluded that there was no significant difference in each group on days 3, 5 and 7. Whereas on day 11 the sig value was 0.011 and day 14 the sig value was 0.006 in the ANOVA test showing p<0.05 so it can be concluded that on days 11 and 14 each group had significant differences.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to empower housewives through the utilization of Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA) by transforming them into instant herbal drinks. The training focused on processing red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. rubrum) due to its extensive health benefits, such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and analgesic properties. The activity involved 30 participants who received theoretical knowledge and hands-on practice on how to process red ginger into instant herbal drink products that are easy to prepare, hygienic, and have a longer shelf life. The results showed that participants were enthusiastic and actively engaged throughout the sessions. Evaluations before and after the training indicated a significant increase in knowledge. Previously, participants only grew medicinal plants as decoration without understanding their benefits and economic potential. The advantage of instant herbal drinks is their practicality in preparation, safety, and longer shelf life. Furthermore, this activity opened economic opportunities for participants through the development of small businesses based on instant herbal drinks. In conclusion, the training successfully enhanced the knowledge and skills of housewives in utilizing TOGA, particularly red ginger, and had a positive impact on economic empowerment. It is hoped that this program will continue with further assistance and development of other TOGA-based products.

Abstract

Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have a very important role in driving development and growth and the economy, both in developing and developed countries (Chrismardani, 2014). MSMEs are the right choice for the community to improve economic conditions. The main objective is to collect comprehensive data related to MSMEs in the area in an effort to improve the economy and sustainability of MSMEs in Sungai Pinang Village, as well as to seek to select MSMEs that have significant potential to increase their selling power. In order to be able to identify, understand, and develop MSMEs that have better growth opportunities in the context of Sungai Pinang Village. Ujang/Syahrul's duck egg farm in Sungai Pinang, Tambang District, Kampar Regency, Riau Province, is the only duck farm in the area. A group of 24 KKN students from Abdurrab University chose this business as an MSME program because of its remote location and the lack of public knowledge about it, while the community's interest in duck eggs and meat is high. Their initial steps were to conduct a location survey, ask permission from the business owner, and adopt online marketing methods and placing banners as a promotional strategy. The positive impact was a significant increase in sales of duck eggs and meat, even extending beyond Sungai Pinang.
