Abstract

Background: The lack of public awareness regarding proper medicine management contributes to irrational drug use and improper disposal, which can harm the environment, water sources, and ecosystems. Observations in Miru Village, Sekaran District, Lamongan Regency indicate that the community, particularly the elderly, has never received education on the principles of DAGUSIBU (Obtain, Use, Store, Dispose). Therefore, educating the public, especially the elderly, is essential to enhance their knowledge of safe and effective drug management. Objective: This initiative aims to improve the elderly’s understanding of how to obtain, use, store, and dispose of medicines properly. Method: Educational sessions were conducted using lectures, question-and-answer discussions, and visual aids including posters and brochures. These sessions took place at Pasadena Pharmacy, Miru. To assess the program’s effectiveness, participants completed pre-test and post-test assessments, along with satisfaction questionnaires. Results: Shows an increase in knowledge from pretest and posttest where the pretest results before the presentation of the material were only 20% then after the presentation of the material the posttest value increased to 95% until it reached 100%. In addition, the satisfaction of most participants expressed satisfaction with the presentation of the material that had been done. Conclusion: This community service program has proven to be effective in increasing public knowledge about DAGUSIBU. Improved understanding of proper medicine management can enhance public health and promote safer drug use, ultimately reducing the risks associated with improper medication practices.

Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACT Red pomegranate peel extract (RPPE) contains ellagitannin. This compound has an antioxidant effect. Therefore, this extract has good potential as an active ingredient in anti-aging cosmetics. However, applying the extract directly to the skin is inconvenient. So in this study RPPE was formulated into a sleeping mask. This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in the concentration of RPPE in sleeping masks on physical characteristics and the level of preference/hedonic. RPPE concentration observed was 2.5% (F1) ; 5% (F2) ; 7.5% (F3). Characteristic tests include organoleptic, pH value, visual homogeneity, consistency and viscosity. Parameters analyzed in the hedonic test include texture, color, and aroma. The organoleptic and homogeneity were analyzed descriptively. The test data for pH and viscosity were analyzed statistically using the One Way ANOVA method. The results of the hedonic test were analyzed statistically using the univariate method. Based on the results of the organoleptic test, it is known that F1 have a light brown color, F2 is brown, and F3 is dark brown. The third formula is visually homogeneous. The higher the concentration of RPPE, the lower the pH value and viscosity of the preparation. Increasing the concentration of RPPE reduce consistency. This study concluded that the concentration of RPPE affects the physical properties of the aspects of color, consistency, pH, and viscosity. The concentration of RPPE also affects the level of preference of the panelists. Most of the panelists prefer the color and texture of the sleeping mask that contains low concentration of RPPE (2.5%). Abstract

Sweet orange peel oil (MJ) and peppermint oil (MP) are essential oils. The MJ contained mainly limonene, while the MP contained mainly menthol. These compounds give MJ and MP their distinctive aromas but can also potentially cause skin irritation, especially when used in high concentrations. The purpose of this study was to observe the effect of adding a combination of essential oils (MJ and MP) at a concentration of 3% on the physical characteristics and skin irritation levels of cream deodorants. The ratios of MJ:MP added were 0:0 (F0), 100:0 (FA), 50:50 (FB), and 0:100 (FC). In the physical characteristic test, observations included pH, organoleptic, viscosity, and spreadability. In the irritation test, observations included erythema and edema on the skin of white rat. Based on the organoleptic test, it is known that F0 was odorless, FA had the aroma of MJ, FB had the aroma of MP with a little MJ, and FC had the aroma of MP. All four formulas were white in color and had a semi-solid consistency. They had a pH between 5.27-5.68. The formula with the highest pH was F0. All four formulas had a spreadability value between 5.20-5.53. These values ??were not significantly different. All four formulas had a viscosity value between 14,066-14,980 cP. These values ??were not significantly different. The results of skin irritation observations showed that all formulas had a primary irritation index score of 0. The study concluded that the ratio of MJ and MP affected the aroma and pH of the cream deodorant but did not affect the color, consistency, viscosity, and spreadability. None of the formulas causes skin irritation.

Abstract

Lavender oil and lime oil contain linalool which has a relaxing effect. This oil has potential as a fragrance in antiaging body lotion products containing Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) in the Nanostructured Lipid Carriers System (NLC). This study aimed to analyzed the physical characteristics and consumer preference level for anti aging body lotion containing NLC-CoQ10. NLC-CoQ10 was prepared using the High Shear Homogenization method. For F1 (Formula 1), NLC-CoQ10 is mixed with a gel base and lavender oil. For F2 (Formula 2), the type of essential oil added is lime oil. These two forms when compared with F0 (Formula 0 = formula without essential oils). The physical properties observed included organoleptic, pH, homogeneity, spreadability, and viscosity. Organoleptic test and homogeneity were analyzed descriptively. While the pH, spreadability, and viscosity were analyzed using One Way Anova. In the preference level test, the aspect that is assessed is aroma. This test was analyzed statistically using the Univariate method. Based on the physical characteristic test, it is known that the three formulas have the same color, consistency, and homogeneity. The difference between the three formulas lies in their aroma. F0 is unscented; F1 has a lavender scent; F2 has a lime scent. The viscosity of the three formulas is also different but does not affect the spreadability value. Based on the aroma preference level test, it is known that F2 has the highest value. The type of essential oil affects the aroma and level of preference of the panelists. The most preferred formula is a formula containing lime oil.
