Abstract

This study attempted to characterize the prominent role of English teachers and studentresponses in online lessons during the Covid-19 pandemic at SMA Negeri 1 Tarakan.A descriptive design with a qualitative approach was utilized in the research, whichdescribed the actual situation in the field. The researcher employed interviewprotocols, questionnaires, observation sheets, and documentation to gather the data.Five English teachers and students from class XI Linat A (27 students) from SMANegeri 1 Tarakan served as the researcher participants in this study. Informer,Organizer, Motivator, Director, Mediator, Evaluator, Advisor, Diagnostician, andFacilitator were the most common positions identified by the researcher, and studentsresponses matched the nine functions played by the teacher. During their onlineEnglish Classes, the students expressed their honest feelings to their teacher. Inconclusion, the findings of this study had provided the answer to the research problems.

Abstract

This study attempted to outline the benefits and drawbacks of using Google Form as an assessment tool for English classes at SMP N 5 Tarakan. The Google Form itself is a component of a Google features that may gather data from different responses to different purposes, like surveys and task media. This study examined how Google Form could be used as an evaluation, which should make teaching and learning more convenient. The descriptive qualitative method was employed in this investigation. Study of documentation, observation, and interviews were all used in collecting of data, which was then qualitatively assessed using a coding system and narratively recounted. The subjects of this study were English teachers and students who were represented based on the highest scores in English subjects from each class. The results of this study indicated there were both advantages and disadvantages to using Google Form as a tool for learning evaluation by English teachers and student from the planning, preparation, and readiness stages of facilities and infrastructure to the implementation stage, using Google Form had an impact and benefits in terms of effectiveness and efficiency. The Google Form substantially benefited teachers in terms of money, time, and effort. It aided students in completing practical assignments more succesfully and with greater statisfaction.

Abstract

Community Language Learning is a method where the teacher becomes a counselor in the classroom, so that the relationship between teacher and students is more towards the practice of English in the classroom. The purpose of this study is to improve students' English speaking ability by using the Community Language Learning method in the eighth grade of SMP N 10 Tarakan and to describe students' perceptions related to the use of the method. This study used Classroom Action Research design with a total of two cycles and each cycle had four meetings, and involved participants as many as 25 eighth grade students. The research data were obtained from document data, interviews and students' speaking test results. The data were analyzed qualitatively using descriptive statistics and qualitatively using thematic analysis. The results showed that in the first cycle students who scored above the KKM were 11 students and for the second cycle it increased to 21 students. The challenges in using the community language learning method are: teacher and student readiness, teaching media and evaluation of students' speaking ability due to limited time allocation conditions.

Abstract

Reward dan Punishment merupakan salah satu alat edukasi yang digunakan untuk meningkatkan motivasi dan kemampuan belajar siswa dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendiskripsikan (1) bagaimana implementasi Reward dan Punishment untuk meningkatkan kemampuan speaking dan (2) pandangan guru dan siswa terhadap implementasi tersebut pada siswa kelas tujuh di SMPN 8 Tarakan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah guru bahasa inggris kelas tujuh dan siswa kelas VII-7. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan instrumen telaah dokumen, observasi, kuisioner dan wawancara serta dianalisis secara kualitatif melalui sistem pengkodean dan dideskripsikan secara naratif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Reward dan Punishment dapat meningkatkan motivasi siswa dalam pembelajaran dan kemampuan speaking di dalam kelas. Bagi guru dan siswa, Reward dan Punishment sangat bagus dan penting sebagai alat edukasi dalam meningkatkan motivasi dan kemampuan belajar siswa.

Abstract

Semester Gasal 2021/2022 beberapa sekolah di Kota Tarakan sudah mulai melaksanakan pembelajaran dengan kondisi pertemuan tatap muka (PTM) terbatas. Oleh karena itu, penting untuk melakukan kegiatan terkait dengan pemantapan guru dalam melaksanakan PTM terbatas, khususnya penggunaan teknologi pembelajaran sehingga mendukung pelaksanaan blended learning. Kegiatan dilaksanakan dengan luring dan daring, di mana kegiatan luring dilakukan langsung dalam bentuk praktik sehingga guru dapat memahami langkah-langkah dalam penggunaan teknologi pembelajaran (pixton, seesaw, dan quizizz). Sedangkan kegiatan daring untuk memfasilitasi guru dalam melakukan simulasi praktik penggunaan pixton, seesaw, dan quizizz. Kegiatan pengabdian yang dilaksanaan dapat diikuti dengan baik oleh guru terbukti dengan kemampuan guru dalam melakukan praktik secara mandiri terhadap ketiga platform yang sudah disajikan meskipun belum mengeksplorasi fitur platform secara lebih mendalam.

Abstract

This study delved into the impact of the E-learning crack-up on the learning process during the pandemic to the post-pandemic learning process and the quality of English learning during face-to-face learning. This study applied qualitative research methods. The researchers selected six students from class XI-1 and one teacher at SMAN 1 Nunukan to participate in the interview session. In the data collection process, documents, observations, and interviews as research instruments were implemented. The researchers analyzed research data through three phases: data condensation, presentation, and conclusion verification. From the data analysis, the researchers found that E-learning crack-ups in the learning process during the pandemic affected students' learning processes. This is evidenced by the results of student interviews, which stated that they were still trying to adapt to the learning process in the post-pandemic period. However, based on the observations and document reviews, the researchers also found that the students' adaptation process during the post-pandemic learning period was excellent because it was supported by an exciting learning process and the implementation of Kurikulum Merdeka at Nunukan 1 Public High School. Thus, the quality of learning at SMAN 1 Nunukan is outstanding.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the methods for incorporating reading comprehension skills into classroom instruction and identify the specific strategies teachers employ. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach. The participants of this study were English instructors at SMP Negeri 10 Tarakan, comprising a single teacher. The primary objective of this study is to examine the instructional techniques teachers employ to enhance reading comprehension skills among students in the classroom setting. The research data collection was conducted through documentation, observation, and interviews. Based on the observations and conversations, the instructor employs two specific strategies: scaffolding and QARs (Question-Answer Relationship).

Abstract

This research aims to design learning media for the XI class of State Vocational School 2 Tarakan. The research design was research and development (RD) using the ADDIE model; Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Data were collected using some research instrument; document analysis, questionnaires, and interviews. This research was conducted from February 14, 2022, to June 6, 2022. The subjects of this research were students of the XI class consisting of 87 students. The results of this study indicated that it has succeeded in developing a product in the form of a simple future tense poster as a learning medium for class XI SMKN 2 Tarakan. Then, the poster was validated by design expert, content. The quality of the posters from the design experts was “good” with a percentage of 88%, those from the content experts were also good based on Core and basic competence, and the language aspect was also good category with percentage of 89%. Furthermore, student response to poster media is “good”, with a percentage of 81%. Therefore, students are interested in learning English with poster media. Thus, it can be concluded that submitting simple future tense posters as a learning media for XI class State Vocational School 2 Tarakan increases student interest in learning English, especially tenses.

Abstract

This community service program focused on increasing literacy and caring about the young generation of Mansalong village using the Reggio Emilia approach. This program involved children in learning based on real-life experience, listening and observing, collaborating, and broadening general insights. The activities were organized in collaboration with KKN Group 88 in Mansalong and community service chairs in this community service. The participants in this activity consisted of 50 elementary school students from grades 5 and 6, located at SDN 001 Lumbis. This program was held on Tuesday, July 17, 2024, and explored children's potential in preparing their future life quality as the output of education in the 21st century, building students with a strong profile of Pancasila, especially maintaining national peace in border areas, building quality character, and supporting SDGs (sustainable development goals of villages) in education and human resources.

Abstract

Pembangunan karakter mengacu pada proses pengembangan sifat, nilai, dan perilaku positif dan penting yang berkontribusi pada pertumbuhan pribadi, pengambilan keputusan etis, dan kewarganegaraan yang bertanggung jawab. Ini mencakup pengembangan kebajikan seperti kejujuran, integritas, empati, rasa hormat, ketahanan, dan kasih sayang. Pembentukan karakter yang efektif membekali anak-anak dengan pedoman moral dan keterampilan yang diperlukan untuk menghadapi tantangan hidup, memberikan kontribusi positif kepada komunitas mereka, dan menjalani kehidupan yang memuaskan dan beretika. Ini adalah proses berkelanjutan yang memerlukan pengasuhan, penguatan, dan upaya kolaboratif dari berbagai pemangku kepentingan di lingkungan anak. Kegiatan pembangunan karakter sangat penting bagi anak-anak di daerah pedesaan karena mereka tidak hanya memupuk sifat-sifat dan nilai-nilai positif tetapi juga membekali mereka dengan keterampilan yang diperlukan untuk berkembang dalam lingkungan unik mereka, memberikan kontribusi yang berarti bagi komunitas mereka, dan mempersiapkan masa depan yang sukses. Program Kemitraan bagi Masyarakat (PKM) Edu Kids’ Day: Character Building untuk Anak-Anak Desa Nainsid Kecamatan Lumbis Kabupaten Nunukan ini memprioritaskan pembangunan karakter bagi anak-anak di pedesaan, masyarakat dapat membina generasi individu yang tangguh, penuh kasih sayang, dan berdaya yang mampu mengatasi tantangan, memberikan kontribusi positif kepada masyarakat, dan menjunjung tinggi nilai-nilai yang mendefinisikan komunitas mereka.
