Abstract

This study examined the characteristics of Kunimatsu’s guitar arrangements in Astor Piazzolla’s Oblivion by comparing aspects of musical form, melody, and harmony. As with other arrangements’ performances, the primary motif of Astor Piazzola’sOblivion melodic theme in Kunimatsu guitar arrangement has always been played differently from the original version. This performance phenomenon could responsibly risk blurring the identification of structural boundaries within its musical form. The purpose of this study is to prove the basic construction of Oblivion melody, including its form structure and rhythmic characteristics, by comparing Kunimatsu’s arrangements against the composer’s original score. This study uses musicological research methods. The approaches applied in studying this work are analytical, theoretical, and comparative.  This study compares the two data to reveal the musical forms and the differences in the primary motive rhythmic characteristics. The results of this study are findings of the Oblivion musical forms in both publications and the differences in primary motives rhythmic patterns in both sources. The difference in musical form is impressive, possibly caused by the insertion of auxiliary members. As a result, Kunamitsu arrangement includes using the two-part song form, originally a three-part song form. With the revelation of the original melodic structure that is clear from the results of this study, the musicians who will present the Oblivion will at least have the essential reference in their interpretation. This research contributes to expanding studies in classical guitar performance and musical forms and new approaches in textual musicological analysis that are still infrequent.

Abstract

Tripartition Semiotics of Concierto de Aranjuez. Tulisan ini membahas Concierto de Aranjuez Bagian I Allegrocon SpiritoKarya Joaquin Rodrigo. Metode diskriptiptif analisis digunakan untuk mengupas masalah ini. Berdasarkanpenelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa makna musikal pada level poietic bagi Rodrigo adalah tidak mudah putus asa,ramai dan bersemangat seperti Allegro con spirito. Dalam level neural, sukat yang stabil bermakna tenang, tonikadimulai dari mayor dan diselesaikan dalam mayor bermakna suasana gembira. Dinamika yang dinamis bermaknasemangat dari yang sangat lembu, lembut, kuat, kerasa, hingga keras sekali.

Abstract

This study examines the equal temperament theory on the piano strings tuning methods and their application. The problem raised in this study is how the theory is applied in tuning the pianos in Yogyakarta? To uncover the problem, this study utilizes a theoretical method by confirming the approaches that have been used by two piano tuners in Yogyakarta to the theories about piano tuning. The purpose of this study was to obtain knowledge about the application of the equal temperament principles in piano tuning in Yogyakarta. This study concludes that although all piano tuners were based their tuning on the theory of equal temperament with varied approaches and techniques ear sensitivity has a very important role.Penelitian ini menguji teori equal temperament pada metode penalaan dawai piano dan aplikasinya. Permasalahan yang diangkat dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana teori tersebut diterapkan dalam penalaan piano di Yogyakarta? Untuk mengungkap masalah tersebut, penelitian ini menggunakan metode teoritikal, yaitu dengan mengkonfirmasi pendekatan yang telah digunakan oleh dua orang penala piano di Yogyakarta dengan teori-teori tentang penalaan piano. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memperoleh pengetahuan tentang penerapan prinsip-prinsip equal temperament dalam penalaan piano di Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa meskipun semua piano tuner mendasarkan penalaan mereka pada teori temperamen yang sama dengan berbagai variasi pendekatan dan teknik, pada kenyataannya sensitivitas telinga memiliki peran yang sangat penting.

Abstract

AbstrakSetiap manusia memiliki kedua telinga yang berfungsi untuk mendeteksi sumber suara dan mendengar seluruh isi suara didunia dalam stereo, setiap suara yang terdengar dari satu sisi (kiri atau kanan) akan lebih dulu sampai ke telinga yang lebih dekat. Perekaman audio stereo bertujuan untuk menghasilkan ilusi pemetaan suara dari sebuah lagu dengan menciptakan perbedaan wakt, volume, dan penempatan (panning) untuk pendengar yang menggunakan sepasang speaker stereo dan headphone. Terdapat banyak teknik miking yang dapat digunakan untuk perekaman audio stereo. Perekaman audio stereo menggunakan teknik miking XY dengan mikrofon small-diaphragm condensers merupakan salah satu teknik miking yang paling umum digunakan dalam perekaman gitar akustik. Penggunaan teknik ini dilakukan dengan menempatkan kapsul atau sudut pada mikrofon sedekat mungkin antara satu sama lain sehingga membentuk sudut 90 derajat. Namun, dikarenakan terbatasnya peralatan perekaman audio yang digunakan pada sesi perekaman ini, mikrofon yang digunakan untuk perekaman audio stereo dengan teknik miking XY akan menggunakan mikrofon tipe large-diaphragm condensers. Dengan menggunakan dua mikrofon kondensor yang dipasangkan sejajar dengan jarak 1 meter menyerupai spaced pair namun tetap disilangkan menghadap masing-masing player dengan jarak 1 meter. Hasil dari perekaman menggunakan teknik miking ini akan menghasilkan penyebaran stereo yang luas, namun seakan terdapat celah pada sisi tengah yang membuat hasil audio tidak telalu padat. Selain itu audio yang dihasilkan dari perekaman menggunakan teknik miking ini akan membentuk suasana terbuka “breath”. Masalah lain yang terkadang mengganggu adalah out of phase yang akan menghasilkan kualitas audio yang terdengar lemah.Kata kunci: Mixing, Strategi mixing, Prosedur mixing, Rap mixing.AbstractAudio mixing is the third step in the music production process after carrying out the initial production process, recording and editing. Mixing aims to combine and balance two or more audio tracks, both in terms of instruments or non-instruments, so the sound character of audio tracks has more aesthetic value. The mixing material in this study uses the Daddy’s Fav Boy song by Muhammad Al Ghifari. The mixing process described by Bobby Owsinski uses a sequence starting from balance, frequency range, panorama, dimension, dynamic, and interest. From the mixing process applied by Bobby Owsinski, it will be reviewed to be adapted to the song Daddy’s Fav Boy. This study will use a qualitative descriptive method with a  musicological analysis approach. The mixing process that applied  by Saga Audio to the Daddy’s Fav Boy was processed using the order of volume balancing, panning, tonal balancing, dynamic processing, and time based processing. The order of the vocal mixing process on the Daddy’s Fav Boy was chosen based on consideration of the sound output description which has the form of hip-hop music. Vocals in hip-hop music use solid, fast, and tight sentence techniques with a firm demeanor called rap. The consequence of processing rap vocal techniques without applying cuts to breath noise sounds will interfere with every sentence spoken  by the vocalist. Audio vocal that sounds clear of course supported by clear audio brightness level as well, Saga Audio uses a frequency boost technique and uses a compressor with a bright sound character to get the intended result.Keywords: Mixing, Mixing Strategy, Mixing Procedure, Rap mixing.

Abstract

Musik independen atau yang lebih dikenal dengan musik indie merupakan musik yang diproduksi dan didistribusi secara mandiri oleh para musisi. Dengan prinsip DIY (do it yourself) dari kelompok indie, musisi dapat menciptakan karya, memproduksi karya, mendistribusikan karya, dan melakukan konser maupun pagelaran secara mandiri, sehingga kreativitas para musisi indie tidak dibatasi oleh kepentingan tertentu dan membentuk musisi yang merdeka. Penelitian ini mengkaji band Nosstress yang merupakan salah satu band indie asal Kota Denpasar, Bali yang berkarya dikancah nasional. Nosstress menyampaikan kepedulian terhadap isu lingkungan, sosial masyarakat, dan juga kesehatan mental melalui karya musik. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perjalanan band Nosstress dalam berkarir sebagai band indie. Metode yang digunakan yaitu penelitian kualitatif dengan strategi studi naratif. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa Nosstress sebagai band indie memiliki prinsip-prinsip dalam berkarya yang sudah sesuai dengan definisi musik indie itu sendiri. Mereka melakukan semuanya secara mandiri, mulai dari berkarya, pendistribusian karya, hingga melaksanakan konser ataupun pagelaran. Nosstress turut berkontribusi dalam wacana pelestarian lingkungan melalui karya musik dan konser-konsernya. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan bisa memberi sumbangsih terhadap dunia musik dan bisa memberi inspirasi bagi generasi muda yang ingin terjun dalam bidang musik indie.Kata kunci: Nosstress, Musik, Indie, Lingkungan, Bali. Narrative Study of Nosstress Band as an Indie Band in Denpasar CityIndependent music or better known as indie music is music that is produced and distributed independently by musicians. With the principle of DIY (do it yourself) from indie groups, musicians can create works, produce works, distribute works, and conduct concerts and performances independently, so that the creativity of indie musicians is not limited by certain interests and forms independent musicians. This research examines the band Nosstress, which is an indie band from Denpasar, Bali, which has worked on the national stage. Nosstress conveys concern for environmental issues, social society, and also mental health through music works. The purpose of this research is to find out the journey of the band Nosstress in their career as an indie band. The method used is qualitative research with a narrative study strategy. The results of this study indicate that Nosstress as an indie band has principles in their work that are in accordance with the definition of indie music itself. They do everything independently, starting from creating, distributing works, to holding concerts or performances. Nosstress also contributes to the discourse on environmental preservation through her music and concerts. It is hoped that the results of this research can contribute to the world of music and can inspire young people who want to get involved in indie music.Keywords: Nosstress, Music, Indie, Environment, Bali.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to analyze the search trends of music genres in Indonesia in the period of 2018-2023. In this study, four popular music genres in Indonesia were used as analysis samples, namely; Islamic music, jazz music, rock music, and dangdut music. Method: The method used is a qualitative type, which acts to describe the data narrative read from the google trends tool which also functions as a data analysis instrument. Result and Discussion: The results of this research found; that (1) The search trend for dangdut was very popular in the duration of 2018-2023 beating the three other music genres, even the search trend for dangdut music dominated in almost every province in Indonesia (2) The search trend for jazz music and rock music competed fiercely in the period 2018-2023, overtaking each other in that period. (3) In terms of graphical appearance, the trend of Islamic music does not seem to increase much compared to the search trends of the other three music genres throughout the last five years (2018-2023) (4) Central Java and Lampung provinces always appear in the top five provinces in the search trends of Islamic music, jazz music, rock music, and dangdut genres. Conclusion: The conclusion obtained in this study is that the search trend for certain music genres is strongly influenced by the culture or group of people who have an attachment to it. The more the music genre can enter many groups of society, the more fans there will be and of course this will increase the search trend for the music genre on social media, as discussed in this study.

Abstract

The traditional Javanese songs created by Sunan Kalijaga, especially Lir ilir and Kidung Rumekso ing Wengi, have tremendous philosophical depth when associated with Javanese culture. Therefore, this research aims to explore and analyze the philosophical meaning contained in the two previous songs and find out how the spiritual messages in these songs are still relevant to the state of society in the modern era. This research uses Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic analysis to find out the deeper meaning of the text, not forgetting to also use the cultural context approach, to minimize irrelevant interpretations. For data validation, this research uses the triangulation method, where the data comes from interviews, historical records, and direct observation. In practice, the point is to explore the messages contained in the two songs, which are all sourced from the lyrics of these songs and the opinions of experts. The results show that both songs contain philosophical teachings on how to achieve wisdom and peace in every episode of human life. They also teach about the importance of establishing a good relationship with God. In addition, this study also revealed that the spiritual messages in these two songs are still relevant as a reflection of the spiritual journey of everyone in the modern era.

Abstract

Musik memiliki peran yang sama penting dengan khotbah di dalam berjalannya suatu ibadah. Berkembangnya zaman, gereja pun berkembang ke semua penjuru dunia dan mengalami inkulturasi budaya musik. Gereja HKBP juga mengalami inkulturasi budaya, alat musik Jawa (Keroncong) yaitu Cak dan Cuk dipilih untuk mengiringi ibadah 17.30 di HKBP Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui alasan gereja HKBP Yogyakarta menerapkan alat musik tradisional Cak dan Cuk dengan alat musik modern pada peribadatan 17.30 dan proses penerapannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif untuk memperoleh data penelitian. Penelitian ini dapat memberikan pengetahuan kepada gereja HKBP Yogyakarta tentang penerapan alat musik Cak dan Cuk dengan alat musik modern dalam peribadatan. Dapat disimpulkan alasan penerapan alat musik tradisional Cak dan Cuk dikarenakan adanya program kerja pemusik pada setiap minggu ke-5 yang menerapkan ibadah etnik. Penerapan musik Cak dan Cuk dengan alat musik modern dapat menciptakan nuansa ibadah etnik Jawa yang cukup dan tidak terlalu susah untuk diterapkan. Kekurangan SDM dan alat mempengaruhi performa penyajian musik iringan ibadah pada ibadah etnik Jawa. Kata kunci: Musik tradisional, Cak Cuk, Musik gereja, Peribadatan, HKBP Yogyakarta AbstractMusic has an equally important role as the sermon in the course of a service. As time progressed, the church expanded to all corners of the world and experienced inculturation in musical culture. The HKBP Church also experienced cultural inculturation, Javanese musical instruments (Keroncong), namely Cak and Cuk, were chosen to accompany the 17.30 worship service at HKBP Yogyakarta. This research aims to find out the reasons why the HKBP Yogyakarta church uses traditional Cak and Cuk musical instruments with modern musical instruments in the 17.30 worship service and the implementation process. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods to obtain research data. This research can provide knowledge to the HKBP Yogyakarta church about the application of Cak and Cuk musical instruments with modern musical instruments in worship. It can be concluded that the reason for using the traditional Cak and Cuk musical instruments is because there is a work program for musicians every 5th week that implements ethnic worship. The application of Cak and Cuk music with modern musical instruments can create a sufficient nuance of Javanese ethnic worship and is not too difficult to implement. The lack of human resources and tools affects the performance of the presentation of worship music at Javanese ethnic worship services. Keywords: Traditional music, Cak Cuk, Church music, Worship, HKBP Yogyakarta
