Abstract

The processing of livestock farm waste in Belimbing village has not been optimal, which has a negative impact on the image of tourism villages. The problem is that the productivity of cattle waste management that has been carried out so far has not been optimal, the management system for handling integrated and integrated livestock-livestock waste has not been realized, the mutual benefits for livestock farmers-the environment-tourism community has not yet been realized. The Community Partnership Program (PKM) aims to improve the ability of a group of livestock farmers to process livestock-livestock waste into products that have economic added value. The solution is through training in the application of integrated integrated science and technology waste management. The implementation method is the PALS (Participatory Action Learning System) method, involving the active participation of partners. The methods applied include counseling and mentoring, education and training, science and technology transfer workshops, assistance in making integrated and integrated waste treatment plants, developing online marketing. As a result of the activity, a livestock waste treatment facility has been built with supporting equipment for the production of organic fertilizer, the benefits of processing livestock waste into organic fertilizer have begun to be felt so that the importance of integrated integrated livestock farm waste management has begun to increase.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the differences in motivation and science learning outcomes between students who use the guided inquiry learning model assisted by PhET Simulation media and those who use conventional learning models. This research is a quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The research population consisted of all eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Petang in the 2023/2024 academic year, totaling 75 students from three classes. Two classes (50 students) were selected as samples using a random sampling technique. Learning motivation data were collected through questionnaires, while learning outcome data were obtained through tests. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques and MANOVA analysis. The results showed: (1) there was a significant difference in learning motivation between students who used the guided inquiry model assisted by PhET Simulations and those who did not (p=0.006<0.05), (2) there was a significant difference in learning outcomes between the two groups (p=0.000<0.05), and (3) simultaneously, there were significant differences in both motivation and learning outcomes between students who used and did not use the PhET-assisted guided inquiry model (p=0.000<0.05).

Abstract

The limited availability of teaching materials that support the development of critical thinking skills and scientific literacy in a contextual and reflective manner. Textbooks used in schools generally focus on memorizing concepts and do not encourage the exploration of complex socio-scientific issues. This, study aims to test the effectiveness of a science e-module containing Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) with a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in improving critical thinking skills and scientific literacy of junior high school students. The study used a one-group pretest-posttest design as part of the assessment stage in the R&D Plomp model. The research subjects consisted of 44 eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Singaraja, who were selected purposively. Data were collected through a critical thinking skills test based on Ennis indicators and a science literacy test based on Vision III. The analysis results showed a significant increase in the posttest scores of critical thinking skills (N-Gain = 0.70) and science literacy (N-Gain = 0.58), with a high effect size value. Analysis per indicator showed the highest increase in the Situation and Reason indicators (critical thinking), as well as Critical Thinking and Acting (science literacy). The e-module also encouraged active student involvement in problem-based learning and contextual issues

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effects of applying a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method combined with PhET simulation tools on enhancing critical thinking skills among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Singaraja when learning vibration and wave topics. It adopted a quasi-experimental approach with a Pretest-Posttest setup and non-equivalent control group design. The participant cohort comprised 75 students distributed across two groups: the treatment group (n=38) who engaged in learning activities using PBL supplemented by PhET simulation, and the comparison group (n=37) who received PBL instruction without PhET simulation support. Data collection was conducted through essay-type assessment instruments containing 7 questions designed to evaluate critical thinking competencies based on Ennis' theoretical framework. Data processing employed descriptive statistical analysis, N-Gain Score computation and ANCOVA testing were conducted at a 0.05 significance level. Results showed the treatment group's average Posttest score at 84, compared to 66 for the control group. The ANCOVA produced an F-value of 103.701 (p < 0.001), confirming a statistically significant difference in critical thinking skills between the groups. The adjusted mean Posttest scores were 83.99 for the treatment group and 66.01 for the comparison group, reflecting a differential of 17.99 points. Consequently, the findings substantiate that the integration of PBL with PhET simulation demonstrates greater effectiveness in fostering students' critical thinking skills in comparison to conventional PBL implementation without technology-enhanced simulation assistance.

Abstract

Natural Sciences (IPA) plays an important role since elementary school as a foundation in developing students' logical, critical, and creative thinking skills. This study aims to examine the learning outcomes of science and the types of research used with the Predict–Observe–Explain (POE) learning model at the Junior High School (SMP) level through the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. The SLR method was carried out by searching scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025 through the Crossref and Scopus databases related to science learning outcomes and the types of research used in the application of the POE model. Inclusion criteria included articles discussing the implementation of the POE model in science learning at the junior high school level. Based on the analysis of the 13 articles reviewed, it can be concluded that the POE model can be implemented in various types of research, such as experiments, Classroom Action Research (CAR), Research and Development (R&D), and quantitative descriptive research. The results of the study indicate that the POE model contributes to science learning at the junior high school level, especially in improving students' scientific literacy and critical thinking skills. In addition, the POE model has also been proven effective in improving science learning outcomes, developing creative and analytical thinking skills, increasing learning motivation and improving students' communication skills.

Abstract

This study is based on the suboptimal utilization of local wisdom as a source of science learning in junior high schools, resulting in learning that remains abstract and less contextual. Tedung Robrob, a traditional craft from Kekeran Village, has the potential to be studied scientifically as a form of local wisdom. This research aims to (1) describe the process of making Tedung Robrob, (2) analyze the scientific concepts involved in its production, and (3) examine the relevance of these scientific findings to junior high school science learning materials. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with an ethnoscience approach. The research was conducted in Kekeran Village, Buleleng Regency, Bali. The research subjects include craftsmen, Tedung Robrob business owners, and junior high school science teachers. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The results show that the process of making Tedung Robrob consists of preparation of tools and materials, framework construction, painting of the umbrella parts, covering, and finishing. Within this process, several scientific concepts were identified, including those from biology, physics, and chemistry, such as classification of living organisms, classification of matter and its changes, simple machines, energy and its transformations, force, pressure, diffusion, heat and heat transfer, and environmental impacts. These findings are relevant to the Learning Outcomes (CP) and Learning Objectives (TP) in science education under the Merdeka Curriculum. Therefore, Tedung Robrob can be utilized as a contextual, ethnoscience-based learning resource to enhance students’ conceptual understanding, critical thinking skills, and learning motivation in junior high schools
