Abstract

Abstract

South Sumatra Province has abundant natural resources that support the economy, but uncontrolled development triggers environmental degradation and disaster risks. Sustainable management is needed in accordance with Law No. 32/2009 and PP No. 22/2021. Water regulation environmental services play an important role in maintaining hydrological and ecosystem balance. GIS-based spatial mapping of landscapes, natural vegetation, and land cover is important as a basis for sustainable environmental policies. The research was conducted in South Sumatra Province using secondary data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and related agencies. Spatial analysis was carried out based on GIS with an overlay approach to three parameters: land cover (weight 60%), landscape (28%), and natural vegetation (12%). The assessment used the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method and produced the Environmental Services Performance Index (IKJLH), which was classified into five categories: very low to very high. The results are visualized in a colored thematic map to show the differences in water regulation performance in each region. The results of the 2023 spatial analysis show that most areas in South Sumatra Province have good water regulation environmental services performance, with a dominance of medium (55%) and high (33%) categories. Ogan Komering Ilir (60.93%), Banyuasin (53.24%), and North Musi Rawas (26.19% very high) are among the best performing areas. In contrast, Palembang City (52.05% low), Empat Lawang, Lahat, and Lubuk Linggau show ecological pressure due to urbanization and land use changes. This condition emphasizes the importance of sustainable environmental management to maintain water regulatory functions in the future.

Abstract

Pagaralam is one of the coffee-producing districts in South Sumatra (Sum-Sel). Pagaralam coffee farming is a hereditary business, where the majority of land processing is still traditional. This is related to working capital and farmers' income. This study aims to analyze the factors that affect the income of Pagaralam coffee farmers by using correspondence analysis. There are 30 variables or factors studied. Each variable is divided into several categories. The categories of each variable are described graphically with the categories of income variable. Primary data were obtained from 196 respondents who were selected based on purposive sampling technique. There are 13 factors that affect the income of respondents, namely: number of dependents, number of trees, age of the trees, number of female workers from outside the family, frequency of fertilization, frequency of herbicide application, production of harvest, production outside of harvest, gross income, minimum price of coffee beans, the maximum price of coffee beans, economic status and land productivity. There are 8 of the 13 factors that predominantly characterize the profile of net income level of Pagaralam coffee farmers. In general, the factor that must be considered in coffee farming is land productivity which is also related to production costs in land processing and crop production, as well as external factors regarding the market price of coffee.

Abstract

The existence of weeds in coffee fields will become competitors for coffee plants, so that they can be economically and ecologically detrimental. Inappropriate use of chemical herbicides can have a negative impact. Herbicide reductants made from organic are used in weed control. This study aims to analyze the variables that affect the net income of Pagaralam coffee farmers using multiple linear regression analysis. One of these variables is a qualitative variable in the form of categories of respondents based on the use of herbicide reductants. The data used was obtained from the results of questionnaires on 56 respondents who are users and 80 respondents who are not users of herbicide reductants. The results of the hypothesis test of mean difference found that the net income of the two respondent categories is not different. The regression analysis also resulted that there was no significant difference in net income between the two respondent categories. Variables that had a significant effect on net income included gross income, farming maintenance costs, estimated yields, and tree age. Several models also contain variables of land area, length of time in coffee farming, number of trees, and frequency of organic fertilizers used. Old coffee trees should be treated better with the use of organic fertilizers and also wise weed control techniques.

Abstract

Land care is one of the factors that must be considered in the sustainability of coffee production. A small number of Pagaralam coffee farmers know and apply reductant herbicide in weed control. This study aims to compare the characteristics of Pagaralam coffee farmers based on the use of reductant herbicide by using two groups analysis and cluster analysis. The characteristics of the farmers studied included 17 variables on 165 respondents who were selected by purposive sampling. The variables studied include land productivity and farmers' income. Respondents were divided into 2 categories, namely users and non-users of reductant herbicide. The initial stages of data processing in the form of descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing by mean difference test, correlation between variables, Principal Component Analysis, and biplot analysis. According to the results of the two groups analysis and cluster analysis, the variables dominantly tend to characterize the similarity in comparison between the categories of non-users and users are the variables that join into one cluster, namely land area, number of trees, coffee bean production, estimated yield, total harvest, Gross income, and Net income. While the variables that dominantly characterize the dissimilarity between the two categories are the variables that form 5 separate clusters, namely the clusters of plantation productivity, respondent identity, education, tree age, and length of harvest period.

Abstract

The presence of weeds can affect the productivity of coffee plants. The use of herbicides that are not wise in controlling weeds can have a negative impact on the quality of coffee production and land. This study aims to obtain a binary logistic regression model of the use of reductant herbicides by coffee farmers in Pagaralam South Sumatera. This research involved 165 coffee farmers, consisting of 81 farmers who used reductants and 85 farmers who did not use reductants. In the results of bivariate analysis, variables that have a significant effect on the status of using reductant herbicides, do not necessarily have a significant effect on the logistic regression model. Overall prediction accuracy of the model results of the enter method and backward method are respectively 78.2% and 76.4%. The two best models obtained show that farmer age, number of trees, number of family workers, and land productivity can reduce the probability value of farmers using reductant herbicide. On the other hand, variables that can increase the opportunity value of using reductants, starting with the greatest effect, are net income, length of harvest, frequency of herbicide use, frequency of use of organic fertilizers, and age of trees. Based on the factors that affect the use of reductants, coffee farmers should set aside costs for land maintenance, including costs for environmentally friendly weed control, so that they can support the coffee plants to continue producing optimally.

Abstract

The entrepreneurial spirit is one of the basics for forming the competencies of vocational school graduates.  The lack or absence of ideas and enthusiasm (mental) for vocational school students to become entrepreneurs can be due to their mindset and skills (competencies) which are still lacking. The area of activity carried out is increasing the knowledge, skills and entrepreneurial spirit of students at SMK Negeri 1 Tanjung Batu, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, through training in using gadgets, mastering digital literacy and using social media in digital marketing, as well as improving management skills. finance (including administration) through the use of Excel. This community service activity (PPM) also introduced several examples of business ideas and provides practical simulations of business simulations carried out by students participating in the Mathematics Entrepreneurship Course I in the current semester at the same time as PPM activity. Methods for implementing activities include presentations (material transfer), questions and answers and discussions, demonstrations/practices, simulations, and implementation assistance. Training on using smartphones to create creative content on social media can increase the enthusiasm of vocational school students majoring in TKJ (Department of Computer and Network  Engineering) in getting to know the world of business, so that they can also develop their entrepreneurial spirit and become more familiar with business ideas. Apart from that, students become more familiar with using Microsoft Excel for simple calculations on business financial bookkeeping problems, so that it can motivate them to further improve their competency in using devices. The involvement of students as assistants in implementing the PPM activities of the Village Lecture Scheme is a field practice from the Mathematics Entrepreneurship Course I (in the MBKM curriculum), so that they can gain experience, information and contribute to the community outside the campus, as well as business experience.

Abstract

Weed control is an attempt to care for agricultural land that can affect coffee production. This study aims to analyze the factors that have a relationship with the use of reductant herbicide in Pagaralam coffee farmers by using simple correspondence analysis. The research data included 19 variables and 3 categories of respondents based on the use of reductant herbicide, namely non-users, new users, and users. At the initial stage, each variable was carried out a mean difference test between 2 categories of respondents. Furthermore, each variable is divided into several categories. Then, by using the independence test, the categories of each variable are associated with the category of reductant use. There are 7 factors that have a relationship with the use of reductants, namely education of respondents, age of trees, length of harvest, frequency of herbicide use, frequency of chemical fertilizers used, frequency of organic fertilizers used, and number of labour outside the family (TL). The results of the correspondence analysis plot can show differences in the characteristics of the respondent's categories according to the use of reductant herbicide. The user category is dominantly characterized by having junior high school education, tree age more than 25 years, tend not to use organic fertilizer, and the harvest period can reach 3 months.
