Abstract

The use of turmeric rhizome to treat diarrhea is written in the original Indonesian medicinal manuscript. Diarrhea disease is still a public health problem in Indonesia, because of its high morbidity and mortality. The morbidity survey conducted by Indonesian Ministry of Health shows an increasing incidence trend. One of the causes of diarrhea is an uncontrolled increase in the number of intestinal bacteria and infection by intestinal pathogenic bacteria. This study aims to determine the effect of the turmeric rhizome preparation process, both traditionally and by extraction method by maceration and soxhletation on antibacterial activity, especially intestinal bacteria, so that it can be applied by the traditional medicine industry as well as traditional herbal medicine sellers (“jamu gendong”). The research method used was to test the antibacterial activity of fresh turmeric juice, pre-dried turmeric juice, turmeric extract by maceration using 95 percent ethanol, and turmeric extract by soxhletation at 100 degrees celcius using 95 percent ethanol. The intestinal bacteria used in this study were Escherichia coli, Yersinia enterolitica, Vibrio nonagglutinable, and Shigella flexneri. The results of this study indicate that the treatment process using the traditional method, both fresh turmeric juice and pre-dried turmeric juice, does not show any antibacterial activity. Turmeric extract by maceration showed antibacterial activity against all bacterias and the greatest against Vibrio nonagglutinable bacteria. Turmeric extract by soxhletation showed antibacterial activity against all bacterias and the greatest against Vibrio nonagglutinable bacteria. The conclusion of this study is that the most appropriate method used to process turmeric rhizome as a medicine for diarrhea caused by bacteria is the extraction method by maceration or soxhletation. The greatest antibacterial effect is against the Vibrio nonagglutinable bacteria.

Abstract

The mortality rate for children with a diagnosis of acute kidney injury after consuming syrup preparations in Indonesia is very high. The number of syrup preparations in Indonesia found to be contaminated with Ethylene glycol (EG) or Diethylene glycol (DEG) reached 116 syrup products. There are three issues that will be investigated as a result of the contaminated syrup: (1) the public response to the policies and responsibilities of regulators (the Indonesian Ministry of Health and the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM), (2) the public response to pharmacies in delivering safe medicines to patients, and (3) the public response to pharmacists who are responsible for the practice of pharmaceutical services in pharmacies. This research method is a qualitative descriptive study using a Google form questionnaire which is analyzed using the Guttman scale. The questionnaire meets the qualifications in testing the validity, reliability and normality of research data. The results showed that the level of public trust in the government (Ministry of Health and BPOM) was low, while the level of trust in pharmaceutical facilities at pharmacies and pharmacists was still quite above average.

Abstract

The goals of treatment are to protect and restore health and maintain and improve quality of life. Therefore, the community needs access to affordable and good quality medicines so that the cost of treatment is more affordable economically, without reducing the quality or quality of the drugs. The problem is that currently there are not many people who are interested in generic drugs because they think that low drug prices are synonymous with low drug quality. This community service activity aims to provide education to the public about the differences between generic drugs and patented drugs which in turn encourages people to use generic drugs to reduce medical costs. The educational method used is through the distribution of brochures at 25 K24 pharmacy outlets in the Yogyakarta area. The results of this activity received a very good response from the pharmacy because they felt it helped in providing this information. The community's acceptance of this activity is also very good so that the education process can also be carried out directly to patients while at the pharmacy

Abstract

The GeMa CerMat program from the Indonesian Ministry of Health was started in 2015 with the aim of rational drug use. The success of GeMa CerMat's goal in rational use of drugs was tested by the COVID-19 pandemic which reached its peak in June to August 2021. Public panic due to the high death rate of COVID-19 caused panic buying for drugs used in the treatment of COVID-19, including prescribed drugs. The demand for COVID-19 prescribed drugs without prescription describes the irrational use of drugs and an uncontrolled increase in demand that will lead to a shortage of drugs in distribution channels and increase the cost of purchase according to the theory of supply and demand. This study is an observational study using a cross-sectional analysis method from a number of pharmacies in each region, conducted from June to August 2021. The results showed an increase more than 2 times in demand for prescribed drugs without prescription for COVID-19 drugs, which resulted in an increase in purchasing lead times more than 3 times, as well as an increase in the cost of purchase of drugs more than 3 times and could be controlled with government selling price standard. The conclusion of this study is that the GeMa CerMat program has not succeeded in educating the public to use drugs rationally, as a result, during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, panic buying occurred for COVID-19 prescribed drugs which resulted in an increase in purchasing lead time and cost of purchase.

Abstract

The article discusses the potential of tamarind turmeric instant herbal products as part of an entrepreneurship project for pharmacy students. It emphasizes the importance of combining pharmaceutical knowledge with entrepreneurial skills, which can lead to innovation in the healthcare industry. The project involves minimal investment in equipment for powdering ingredients and offers a convenient product for consumers through instant drink mixes. Leveraging e-commerce and digital marketing strategies, students can promote their product effectively. Collaborations with health influencers and participation in local health fairs can enhance product visibility and consumer feedback. The primary aim of the research is to conduct an organoleptic evaluation of the tamarind turmeric instant herbal products and assess sales performance. A descriptive qualitative research design was adopted to gather sensory evaluations and consumer feedback. The results indicate that these herbal products are becoming popular due to their health benefits, including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The organoleptic attributes were evaluated, focusing on factors such as color, aroma, taste, and texture. The findings showed that the product has a yellowish-brown color, a tangy and citrusy aroma with earthy undertones, a tangy and slightly sour taste with mild spiciness, and a smooth texture that dissolves easily in water. The visual appeal of the product plays a significant role in consumer preference, as color can indicate the presence of beneficial ingredients like curcuminoids in turmeric. The sales performance of instant turmeric and tamarind drinks shows consumer acceptance in hedonic tests on taste, color, and aroma with the results of like and very-like.
