Abstract

The digital age has brought about significant transformation in many aspects of life, including education. On top of that, Siemens and Downes (2020) argued that the current digital era is defined by a concept called connectivism. It suggested that learning is fundamentally a social and networked process. Thus, the theory provided a powerful perspective on how digital platforms such as YouTube have changed the learning space. In this study, the authors aimed to find out the proper answer about the effectiveness of YouTube as the media that is widely used by teachers in improving students’ English speaking skills. This study employed a qualitative systematic review. The authors set the criteria for selecting previous studies using Xiao and Watson’s (2019) framework. The criteria were as follows: (1) published in journals and available in Google Scholar, (2) within the last five years from 2019 – 2023, (3) specifically related to the effectiveness of using YouTube as learning media in EFL classrooms to enhance students’ speaking skills, and (4) original research article and using a quantitative approach. As a whole, this study supported the notion that integrating YouTube into the language classroom can lead to significant improvements in students’ speaking skills, ultimately contributing to their overall language proficiency and motivation.

Abstract

Abstract: Technology is now a key component of the assessment process used in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction, helping to increase student performance. A more thorough and precise technique to develop students' speaking and listening abilities is through the use of technology in EFL assessments. This study aims to investigate how much the use of technology in EFL assessments can affect students' speaking and listening skills development. It also seeks to define the benefits and difficulties of applying such technology. The research approach employed was a thorough literature analysis, which included an examination of numerous books, journal articles, and other pertinent materials about the application of technology to the evaluation of speaking and listening abilities in an EFL setting. The purpose of this analysis was to collect empirical data regarding the advantages and disadvantages of using this technology. The findings demonstrate that using technology into EFL assessments can greatly enhance the standard of evaluating students' speaking and listening abilities. Via e-learning apps and platforms, students can receive timely and organized feedback that helps them improve their English communication skills and fix errors. But there are still problems to be solved, like digital skills, technology preparedness, and adjusting to new techniques. The study's conclusion is that using technology into EFL assessments helps students' speaking and listening abilities. Educational institutions may fully utilize the potential of technology to enable more efficient and integrated English language learning by giving teachers the proper training, building the necessary technological infrastructure, and putting the right techniques into practice.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the dogmas received by wives in Bali and Banten regarding their obligation to provide for their families. It also explores the shifting roles in the fulfilment of these obligations. Employing a qualitative research method with an empirical juridical approach, also known as a sociological approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, document analysis, and literature reviews. The data collected were analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The findings reveal differences in the dogmas received by wives in Bali and Banten. Women in Bali perceive the responsibility of earning a living as a shared duty between husbands and wives. In contrast, women in Banten view it as an absolute obligation of the husband; if the wife works, her role is merely to support the husband in meeting the family’s needs. The role shift in providing for the family occurs due to various factors, including economic needs, the wife’s skills being more relevant, the husband’s illness, prolonged absence without notice, death, and old age. Women in both Bali and Banten often assume the role of breadwinners for several reasons, such as the higher availability of job opportunities for women, economic challenges, higher educational attainment of wives, greater demand for women in the labor market, pre-marriage employment contracts, and inherited customs. This study offers insights into the interplay between traditional dogmas, economic realities, and shifting gender roles in Muslim families, contributing to discussions of gender dynamics and economic adaptation in Indonesia

Abstract

Real-life reading, which is defined as reading that takes place in regular situations outside of controlled environments, is examined in this systematic study. The study's objectives are to determine the variables affecting these behaviors, analyze the approaches taken, and point out areas that require more investigation. A thorough database search was carried out using PRISMA criteria and keywords like "real-life reading" and "everyday reading." Laboratory-based research were removed, while those that focused on naturalistic reading behaviors were included. Key findings, methods, participant demographics, and objectives were all covered in the data extraction process. Three primary themes emerged from the review: (1) Contextual Factors: Situational and environmental factors have a big impact on reading habits; (2) Technological Influences: Digital devices have changed how people read; and (3) Methodological Challenges: Studying real-life reading is made more difficult by problems like ecological validity and participant variability. The results indicate that reading in real life is dynamic and context-dependent, although there are no established approaches in the literature. To properly record natural reading activities, new technologies are required, such as digital logs and wearable eye-trackers. To improve generalizability, future research should also examine a variety of populations and environments. By highlighting the significance of closing gaps between research and practical reading behaviors, these insights can guide interventions, technological design, and instruction to increase everyday reading engagement.

Abstract

This study examines the reform of Islamic inheritance law and its role in the formation of a national inheritance law that is more just, inclusive and adaptive to social change. Using the literature research method, this study examines the principles of Islamic inheritance law and its contribution to the national legal system. The results show that the reform of Islamic inheritance law is an important part of the development of national inheritance law, with a major role in improving social justice, legal certainty, and accommodation to the diversity of society. This reform is realized through several strategies, namely: (1) increasing gender equality in the distribution of inheritance, (2) harmonizing Islamic inheritance law with civil law, (3) adjusting the principles of inheritance distribution to be more relevant to the social context, and (4) applying the concept of mandatory will to protect the rights of certain heirs. This research confirms that Islamic inheritance law reform not only plays a role in strengthening the national legal system, but also becomes a strategic element in creating a more cohesive, responsive, and just inheritance law.
