Abstract

Abstract: In an increasingly competitive retail environment, physical stores must evolve into experiential landscapes in which atmospheric elements shape consumer behavior. Lighting functions as a fundamental atmospheric stimulus, yet its impact has been examined mainly through subjective evaluations, leaving underlying neurobiological mechanisms insufficiently explored. This Systematic Literature Review (SLR) investigates how retail lighting attributes mediate consumers’ psychophysiological processing and shape behavioral outcomes within the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) framework. Guided by the PRISMA protocol, a content analysis was conducted on 20 empirical studies published between 2014 and 2025. The synthesized evidence demonstrates that lighting parameters, particularly illuminance and correlated color temperature (CCT), act as key determinants for physiological responses (e.g., visual attention and brainwave activity) and psychological states (e.g., emotional responses and perceptual evaluations). Furthermore, causal mapping indicates a pronounced imbalance toward perceptual and attitudinal outcomes, with still limited evidence capturing observable consumer behavior. To improve empirical rigor and ecological validity, this review advocates triangulating physiological tools, psychometric measures, and real-time behavioral observation, thereby strengthening the foundation for evidence-based, human-centered lighting strategies. Keyword: Retail Lighting; Psychophysiology; Consumer Behavior Abstrak: Dalam lingkungan ritel yang semakin kompetitif, toko fisik perlu bertransformasi menjadi ruang pengalaman di mana elemen atmosfer membentuk perilaku konsumen. Abstract

Head-up display (HUD) is a part of the game interface that is important as a medium of information for players. HUD generally takes the form of numerical, textual, or symbolic indicators in games. Interaction between game players and the HUD produces measurable differences in eye-movement behaviour, operationalized here as fixation count, fixation duration, and saccade velocity/amplitude. While several systematic literature reviews (SLRs) have examined eye tracking in games, none has isolated the HUD as the primary explanatory variable or reconciled the conflicting expert-novice findings that recur across this literature. This article addresses that gap by mapping research trends on HUD-driven eye movement and by synthesizing the recurring methodological practices used to collect eye-tracking data in this domain, to inform, rather than certify, future protocol design. Guided by the PRISMA approach, records were drawn from Google Scholar, Scopus, and ScienceDirect; ten studies published between 2015 and 2025 met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed through qualitative narrative synthesis (no meta-analysis was performed, given cross-study heterogeneity in eye trackers, tasks, and outcome metrics). The synthesis shows that fixation- and saccade-based outcomes diverge between expert and novice players in direction as well as magnitude, and that this divergence tracks genre-specific task demands (e.g., FPS/RTS versus MOBA versus racing) rather than a single uniform pattern. These findings are offered as an evidence base for eye-tracking protocol design in game-HUD research, not as a validated standard.

Abstract

This study examines how lighting perception influences reading focus and satisfaction in book cafés in Bandung, Indonesia. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, involving a preference survey and an experimental study conducted at a selected book café. Thirteen female participants were assigned to three distinct seating areas characterized by different lighting conditions. Participants completed reading tasks and evaluated their environmental comfort, focus level, and reading satisfaction. The findings indicate that lighting comfort significantly correlates with focus (ρ = .000, p < .01) and reading satisfaction (ρ = .016, p < .05), although focus and satisfaction were not significantly related. ANOVA results revealed a significant difference in perceived lighting comfort across seating points, with the most favorable conditions found at Point A. These results underscore the importance of lighting design in enhancing the reading experience in multifunctional public spaces such as book cafés. Future research should consider additional environmental variables, including noise and thermal comfort.

Abstract

The rapidly evolving retail industry demands a deep understanding of environmental stimuli that can regulate visitors' emotional states. Although lighting has been shown to be a crucial interior element of store ambiance, its impact on human psychophysiology, which shapes consumer behavior, still requires further exploration. This article aims to analyze the literature on how lighting influences visitors' emotional states, using Heart Rate Variability as an objective psychophysiological indicator. This review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines by searching through academic databases from 2015 to 2025. The data synthesis results indicate a strong correlation between lighting parameters, such as color temperature and illumination, and the autonomic nervous system. The findings highlight that certain lighting manipulations significantly affect fluctuations in HRV metrics, which reflect visitors' arousal and cognitive load. This internal state implicitly mediates the formation of positive emotions that ultimately influence purchase intentions. This review provides a data-driven framework for interior designers and retail owners to implement lighting strategies to optimize visitors' emotional experiences. Furthermore, this article identifies gaps in neuromarketing research and provides directions for future research on the use of neuroscience technology in retail marketing.

Abstract

Poor sitting posture is suspected to affect cognitive functions such as attention and processing speed, yet empirical evidence remains inconsistent. This systematic literature review aimed to identify effective research protocols, summarize findings, and provide measurement guidelines for cognitive performance in sitting posture studies. A systematic search was conducted in Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar (2016–2026) using keywords related to sitting posture and cognition. Inclusion criteria were healthy adults, seated activity, and objective attention/concentration measures. From an initial 276 records, ten studies met the inclusion criteria. Results showed that upright or ergonomically supported sitting posture consistently improved processing speed (effect sizes ranging from d= 0.30 to 0.42) and reduced reaction time compared to slumped posture. Selective attention improved with upright posture or active chairs (e.g., CoreChair, seated whole-body vibration), whereas higher‑order executive functions (switching, updating, multitasking) were not significantly affected across the reviewed studies. Most studies found that sitting longer than 90 minutes was associated with increased cognitive errors, with age and daily working hours acting as moderators. In conclusion, upright ergonomic sitting benefits processing speed and selective attention. Effective protocols include 15–30 minutes testing duration, standardized tasks (Stroop, flanker, d2‑R), and baseline posture control. Adjusting seat depth, using active chairs, or providing ergonomic training is recommended to improve cognitive performance in workplace and educational settings.
