Abstract

Abstract Background: Febrile seizure is a convulsion that occured after body temperature increased (rectal temperature more than 38oC) caused by an extracranial process, occuring in 2-4% of children about 6 months to 5 years old. Febrile seizure is one of the commonest cause of seizures in children, especially toddlers and an event that often makes parents worry. One of the factor that caused it is iron deficiency anemia because iron plays an important role in neural function. This study purposed to know relationship between iron deficiency anemia and febrile seizure in toddlers. Method: This study is done with observational retrospective analytic. The population is all children diagnosed with febrile seizure (case group) and febrile without seizure (control group) who hospitalized in Raden Mattaher General Hospital Jambi in 2015 that is available in the hospital medical records. There are 84 samples consists of 42 samples in case group and 42 others in control group. This study variables are age, gender, body temperature, and iron deficiency anemia. Result: Febrile seizure occured the most in the case group in age of 12 to 23 months (31,0%) in the males (61,9%), while the most common body temperature category is >39oC (61,9%). Iron Deficiency Anemia occured in toddlers with Febrile Seizure group (45,2%) more than febrile without seizure group (19%). Based on bivariate analysis, p value of the relationship between iron deficiency anemia and febrile seizure is 0,01 (p= 0,01), and the odds ratio is 3,511. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between iron deficiency anemia and febrile seizure in toddlers at Raden Mattaher General Hospital Jambi 2015. Abstract

Introduction:  The COVID-19 pandemic has affected individuals of all age groups, including children. Understanding the correlation between cycle threshold values and clinical symptoms in pediatric patients with COVID-19 is crucial for accurate diagnosis and management of the disease. This research aims to determine the correlation of Cycle Threshold (CT) Values with Clinical Symptoms Of Pediatric Patients With COVID-19. Methods: This research uses quantitative design with a cross sectional study approach.  The population in this study was all children diagnosed with COVID-19 at hospitals in Jambi City in 2021. The data for this study were collected by reviewing the medical records of children registered at Jambi City Hospital who were diagnosed with confirmed cases of COVID-19.  Data analysis of this study used univariate and bivariate analysis. Result: From the characteristics of respondents, it was found that the majority of respondents were aged 11-18 years (58%) and male (58%). From the distribution of clinical symptoms, it was found that some receptors had milder symptoms (48%). The results of this study show that clinical symptoms are significantly associated with low CT values in pediatric patients with COVID-19 (p = 0.000). Conclusion: CT values show a positive correlation with clinical symptoms in pediatric patients with COVID-19. A rising Ct value might suggest a declining viral load, potentially indicating recovery.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder characterized by abnormal hemoglobin production, leading to anemia. Beta-thalassemia, particularly its transfusion-dependent form, requires lifelong care. DNA analysis plays a crucial role in diagnosing thalassemia, providing precise methods for genetic counseling, prenatal diagnosis, and effective prevention programs. This research aims to describe the results of DNA analysis of thalassemia patients in Jambi Province from 2016 to 2020. Methods: This study uses a descriptive retrospective design. Data were analyzed from the medical records of thalassemia patients identified in Jambi Province between 2016 and 2020. The research subjects are individuals diagnosed with thalassemia within this period, with data collection performed via total sampling, encompassing 25 respondents. Results: The majority of thalassemia patients in Jambi Province are children aged 5-14, with a significant proportion having a history of blood transfusions for more than a year. Most patients are classified as Beta Thalassemia (96%), consistent with global trends. DNA analysis revealed significant variation in mutations, with common mutations such as Hb E and IVS-nt-5 found in 48% of samples. The study highlights the genetic diversity within the thalassemia patient population, indicating variations in disease severity. Conclusion: This study highlights the importance of early detection and management of thalassemia, particularly in children.
